Comics: John Constantine To Return To The DCU

Comics: John Constantine To Return To The DCU

It looks like everyone's favorite Scouse Occultist will be returning to the main DC Universe as part of their Flashpoint event. Click for the details..

John Constantine debuted in the pages of Swamp Thing, which was then a part of the main DCU. However when he got his own spin off title(Hellblazer) DC had being making moves to create a more adult imprint for some of its more edgy or occult themed characters. So Constantine, along with Swamp Thing, Sandman and others reformed under the Vertigo imprint.

Now Bleeding Cool report that Constantine might be rejoining the super heroes..

..But now I understand that Constantine will soon be appearing in DC Universe titles. There’s a possible appearance in Flashpoint:Lois Lane And The Resistance looking at the cover, but what I’m being told is a longlasting return to DC Universe continuity.

As it stands, JC is currently in his 50s since Hellblazer is one of the few comic titles that actually takes place in real time. It's unknown if this change will retcon that or keep the sarky old git as he is. More info as we have it.

This is awesome news. Love the character and the Hellblazer series, but they could do some really interesting stuff with him in the main DCU.

Could be funny putting Constantine alongside Blue Demon, or the Titans, maybe Zatanna.

@ShadowVoyd- I agree it would be interesting to see what role Constantine plays in the Flashpoint story. Hopefully, it will be good and memorable.

ROBERT DOWNEY, JR for John Constantine reboot Movie! Although his association with MARVEL may make that impossible. Not to mention his seeming distaste for DC.

Wow interesting......this definitely would bring a darker tone to the DC universe. Alongside Zatanna would be very interesting indeed.

RDJ should stick with IRONMAN.

PAUL BETANNY has had too many of the sort movies already....leave him out.
Leave actors that have played in MARVEL FILMS WITH MARVEL and likewise with actors that have played in DC films.....stay with DC.
Its already confusing enough that Johnny Flame is Captain America too.

I say bring RALPH FIENNES on as JOHN CONSTANTINE!

He's always been part of the DCU. Just the distant part just like Swamp Thing and Sandman. Plus Green Arrow used to be part of Vertigo.

Hmmmmm

Not sure how I feel about this. Vertigo is the right place for him. Seems a bit fish out of water going to the main DCU. Lets hope tyhey treat him with the respect he deserves.

On a side note I always liked Guy Pearce for a movie reboot... Even as Keanu Reeves was burying the franchise in theaters.

Yay! Constantine is awesome! I never actually read any Hellblazer comics, but I loved him in all the Alan Moore Swamp Thing stuff. I really wish they wouldn't have cast Keanu Reeves in the role. Let's take a cool blonde, British character and make him a dark-haired American. WTF?! Hollywood cracks me up sometimes. I think everyone above has pretty good casting choices. I always kind of pictured Daniel Craig in the role. He's a natural blonde, British, grizzled, a smoker, and can do the whole brooding thing really well, as evidenced in the brilliant Layer Cake.
