"She's really in the position of a lot of the new readers to the DC Universe," Mike Johnson, co-writer of the Supergirl series with Michael Green, tells USA Today. "She's new. She doesn't know this universe, and we're right there with her in her head, in her POV, as she discovers this new DCU. In her mind, she was on Krypton yesterday. She's really the only character in this new universe who has that perspective where for her, in her mind, this is a backward world that she suddenly woke up in."
Adds Green: "Superman got to grow up here and feel like he was a human and slowly discover that he was different, whereas for her, waking up on Earth is a massive disruption in the life she expected — and wanted — for herself. Now it's a question of having to learn to make a new life here. She has a lot of the same predicaments as Superman, but (we're) letting her forge out on her own as an alien teenager who lands on our planet and didn't have the benefit of adoptive human parents to bring her up."

There's much more to be found over at the site, including details on the first meeting between Kara and Superman. The last time this version of the character saw him was as a baby, and it almost sounds as if the two will come to blows in the second issue of the series!
