COMICS: USA Today Unveils First Look At Supergirl #1; New Details Revealed!

An awesome preview of Supergirl #1 has been released, along with a ton of new details about the series from writers Mike Johnson and Michael Green! What's in store for the character in "The New 52"? Find out her...

"She's really in the position of a lot of the new readers to the DC Universe," Mike Johnson, co-writer of the Supergirl series with Michael Green, tells USA Today. "She's new. She doesn't know this universe, and we're right there with her in her head, in her POV, as she discovers this new DCU. In her mind, she was on Krypton yesterday. She's really the only character in this new universe who has that perspective where for her, in her mind, this is a backward world that she suddenly woke up in."

Adds Green: "Superman got to grow up here and feel like he was a human and slowly discover that he was different, whereas for her, waking up on Earth is a massive disruption in the life she expected — and wanted — for herself. Now it's a question of having to learn to make a new life here. She has a lot of the same predicaments as Superman, but (we're) letting her forge out on her own as an alien teenager who lands on our planet and didn't have the benefit of adoptive human parents to bring her up."

Supergirl Exclusive Preview

There's much more to be found over at the site, including details on the first meeting between Kara and Superman. The last time this version of the character saw him was as a baby, and it almost sounds as if the two will come to blows in the second issue of the series!

@Intruder, it looks like she's just arriving on Earth, so she wouldn't know she has powers.

@Intruder-- She doesn't know about her powers yet, on krypton she would be normal, so if she was caught in a blizzard on krypton she would freeze

Thats a smirk that reminds me of Kara Zor-L aka POWER GIRL...it seems the artist favors her design than Supergirl. Can't wait to read it. I got a lot from DC this week. 7 #1's

Gotta admit; with a few exceptions, what I've seen of the new DC stuff has been intriguing (at the very least).

I would have never dreamed of picking up a Supergirl comic before.

Very nice design she deserves her own unique uniform I always thought it was a cop out to have a female superman uniform, now its more hers but still represents the house of EL well.

I didn't know what to think about the super girl comic or the rest of the dc comics but so far the relaunch is awesome. I especially like justice league but now I can't wait to read super girl #1.

I like her new look, I mean it's not really a million miles away from her old one anyway. As far as the new 52 go, so far I have been VERY impressed, a few duds here and there and I haven't read every one but seems to be a big success.

I can't stand the little red panties on the outside.

It's like they took Superman's panties and just handed it for Supergirl to wear.

I hate that cape
And those boots
And that chest shield
And that she's wearing the costume as soon as she arrives. They try to explain it away as a Kryptonian armour or something, but do all Kryptonians dress as Superheroes?

Apart from that. Not bad.

They didn't go far enough with these reboots. If you want to reboot an entire established universe, go all the way or don't go at all.

The red arent panties it looks more like some Kryptonian chastity belt. Whats up with DC wanting to bring attention to Kryptonian crotch areas?

Aren't Kryptonians aware of the effect Earths yellow son has on them? The leotard look just doesn't make sense these days. She'd spent most of her time pulling it out of her ass crack.

This artist needs to study the female form. Her breasts are TOO small- it looks like she has a couple of apples stuck under her shirt. I'm not saying she needs the cartoonishly huge breasts many women in comics have, but they should at least have a larger circumference so they look more like real breasts.

Other than that, the art has a nice storytelling style to it.
