DC Comics To Raise The Price Of Some Comics

The New 52 sees some price increases. Six books are slated to go up in price this year. Is your favorite on the list? Hit the jump for details.

Batman and Detective Comics are making the jump to $3.99, but the page count is upped to a whopping 40 pages (up from the previous 32).

Justice League, Action Comics, All-Star Western and Men of War are going to be a member of DC's $3.99 group. DC is still "holding the line at $2.99" on other 32 page comics.

John Rood, DC's executive vice president of sales, marketing and business development, said that there was a good reason for the price and page change - a "story reason" that has yet to be announced.


In addition to this news, DC will now be offering new "combo packs" for Green Lantern and Detective Comics. GL will be priced at $3.99, with Detective and Batman at $4.99. The combo packs and subsequent price increases will snag you a coupon for the digital copy of the book.



Both Detective and Batman are off to great starts. The exciting part of all of this, price increase aside, is the "story reason" for the additional page count. I don't know if they will tie in at all, both books have Batman at different points, but a big story is more than likely coming. The price increases for the other books may just be that, but with the Bat books it looks like it's part of a larger arc. What do you think? Sound off below.

@Marvel72.....Linkara over at atopthefourthwall did purchase ALL the #1's of each of the new 52. Buying all 52 comics, which all come out in bulks per week is quite a daunting task to keep your comic funding at a reasonable expense, unless your loaded and splurge like mad.

I'm not that mad or concerned about this. 8 more pages of awesome storytelling in BATMAN is totally worth the extra dollar. As long they are keeping some fan following ones like Demon Knights, JL: Dark, and Teen Titans (yes I know those are all team books)

Looks like a lot of people will be dropping four of these. If I was DC I'd only put the price up on the comics that they know nobody would want to drop. Like Justice League and Action Comics. They're really the only two that I would think are safe. I mean, we've all got our favorites, but I'm pretty sure that these two atre the quintessential must-reads. The flagship titles. They're the only two on this list that I get. So, yeah. Bad move DC. You're gonna lose readers on the other four.

Stop whining people, it isn't as if they cut the pages down as well. They're increasing it. I don't mind.

@ DukeAcureds - I believe it won't affect them. Look as I said, they aren't cutting the page count down. They are increasing, why it turn off people?

I knew the "holding the line at $2.99" could not last. At the end of the day it's a business and you have to make a profit. That's why I subscribe to my titles to "lock" in cheaper rates. However you are also getting more pages in some of them so there is a bright side for readers.

GD IT!! Besides for being a DC fan the 3 bucks instead of 4 kept me buying as opposed to Marvels 4 bucks.

And dont let them fool you with its now a "whopping" 40 pages instead of 32 pages, we'll still get only 20 pages of story. Theyre just going to throw in a couple of pages of their crappy "special features" like theyre doing with Action and Justice League.

Aww... that blows, a good chunk of books I'm interested get increased by a Dollar. :( Course, I am more of a trade buy then a single issue guy so meh. :P
