Five DC Relaunch Titles I'm Looking Forward To The Most

The Dc Relaunch has me really excited. I can finally start fresh with a comics company i picked up on halfway through 2009. I narrowed it down and found 5 titles i really like and heres why...

As we all should know, DC is relaunching their entire comics line with new #1s. It has been polarizing to many old school fans and newer readers alike. And honestly, some of the titles look really good, and some look incredibly awful(Hawk and Dove i'm looking at you), but in all honesty, who isn't excited? Some of the creative teams are top notch, they're adding new franchises and reviving old ones, and they're giving us a chance to start over with a new continuity. Sure it honestly ruins some of the best parts about the DC mythos, like Barbara gordon as Oracle, but we should look at this as something interesting and cool. I chose to, and i found about 10-15 titles that i really want to get. So for my list here i narrowed it down to the top 5 and here are my reasons justifying their picks as the top 5.

SWAMP THING #1

Swamp Thing has honestly got me the most excited. The preview artwork so far has been gorgeous with it's lush colors and incredibly detailed drawings. Best yet though, is the choice of writer. Scott Snyder is quickly working his way up the modern G.O.A.T. list of comics writers with his amazing run on Detective comics and his underrated work on American Vampire. His writing style is gritty and intelligent without getting too overindulgent in these concepts and he adds just the right dash of noir and horror to make his scripts that much better. I believe he is the only person who could write Swamp Thing as well as Alan Moore and combined with the fresh, detailed art style, this book is looking to be the best of the bunch.

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #1

How cool is it that we're getting an entirely different Justice League than the oh so standard ones of the past? Or that it features some of DC's underrated and best like John Constantine, Zatanna, Madame Xanadu and Deadman? Or that it will be one of the few mainstream DC titles that isn't Batman with dark and surreal stories? Justice League Dark just looks to be one of the coolest out of the bunch. Peter Milligan is an accomplished writer, having worked on the powerful "Skin" and a bunch of X-Men and Vertigo titles. His style is perfectly suited for this series. Mikel Janin's art is cool, but i have to read more of his work in order to get a feel for it. This should be one of the titles we all pick up.

JUSTICE LEAGUE #1

Ah yes here comes the standard one. You guessed it, it's the Justice League. I know a lot of people hate everything about this book, from the writer-artist combo to the team itself, but man it puts me in a mood for some classic League circa 2001-2006 stories. I pretty much have the opposite opinion of everyone else on this book. i like the team of the classic six+cyborg and i love Jim Lee's colorfl, detailed artwork. Geoff Johns writes good and bad stories and i have a strong feeling this will be one of the good ones. First of all, he really loves these characters. Second, his recent output for DC has been exceptional. I feel this book will be classic Justice League with some fun stories and quality character development.

BATMAN #1
Oh yes, I'm a Batman fanatic in almost every way possible. I love the comics, movies, shows, etc. Basically, most anything Bat-related from DC is a goldmine to me. It's a classic character with a lot of classic villains and stories. Again, Scott Snyder is moving from Detective Comics to this, so he'll still be writing Batman, which i'm very happy about it. I have nothing but praise for the man's work, and i' sure he'll do excellent on this. The only thing i have a problem with is greg Capullo. His work on Spawn is atrocious, but the art here just looks so goddamed great. It's nice and thick with a lot of interesting colors and designs thrown in the mix. But it could end up having terrible art. Overall, this is definitely one to look forward to.

THE FLASH #1

Yeah, I'm a Flash fan as well. He's just a character with so much potential now that his convoluted continuity will be fixed in some way. And he also has a colorful rogues gallery as well. I do believe this will have a myriad of oppurtunities to become one of DC's best comics of the relaunch. Sure it may be Francis Manapul's first time writing, but his artwork on previous Flash stories is gorgeous. Maybe his writing won't be atrocious, like other artists turned writers or maybe it will. All i know is, this will be worth picking up for the artwork alone. The fact that it' a classic character is only just icing on the cake.

So now that i've listed my top 5 titles, tell me about yours in the comments section below.

In order of what I'm most to least excited for...
1)Justice League Dark-I love Zatanna and the supernatural.
2)Detective Comics-Tony Daniel's art > Greg Capullo's art
3)Aquaman-Geoff Johns is really good at reviving characters.
4)Demon Knights-Fantasy+Superheroes+Dark Ages=Win
5)Captain Atom-An interesting character who hasn't had an ongoing since the '80s.
6)Green Lantern-The most straightforward superhero comic book of the GL titles.
7)The Savage Hawkman-A brutal charcter that I think is cool.
8)The Flash-Barry Allen is my favorite flash due to his personality & profession.
9)Batman and Robin-Can't wait to see the Bruce/Damien dynamic and the Batman family.
10)Wonder Woman-WW's best foes are the greek gods which are going to be the focus here.
All that plus the following October miniseries...
11)Penguin: Pain and Prejudice-A Batman villain I really like.
