This past December, comedian and self-proclaimed comic-book geek Patton Oswald sat down for an hour long discussion with Paul Levits, Jim Lee, and Geoff Johns, where they discussed everything from the creation of some of DC's most iconic characters, to the future od DC comics and what will be coming in the near future.
The video itself is an hour long, but there are some extremely interesting conversations in it and I highly recommend watching it through if you have the time. I've taken the time to write down a few of the highlights of the video for you guys who don't have the time.
Geoff Johns talked a little bit about his process of writing characters, specifically Hal Jordan:
" It's not about connecting the dots for me personally, as it so much looking at how would a character evolve under these circumstances. So looking at Hal Jordan, if he actually went through all these experiences, where would his journey go next, how would you evolve that character next"
Patton asked Paul Levitz about if the Golden Age creators ever had plans for films of their characters:
" I don't think most of the people other than the orignial creators believed that it would last that long, Shuster and Siegel were sure that Superman would be an important part of our culture for generations. Bob Kane passionately believed Batman would be in the movies someday."
Patton also brought up the differences in how Marvel is setting up their universes for their characters to all connect to form 'The Avengers', and asks if DC has similar plans to lead into a JLA movie:
Geoff Johns- "Well they [Marvel] have a different strategy, I mean Marvel's success obviously helps trigger DC to make movies"
And an audience member asks what DC has in store for future movies, to which Geoff Johns replies:
"Well we have the 'Green Lantern', 'The Dark Knight Rises' is coming out, and Zack Snyder is on 'Superman', and that's about we can officially talk about"
Now Geoff didn't say much for the future of DC movies but he did say that was only what he could officially say, but we already know that plans for a big-screen adaption of The Flash is underway, and I wonder what other big plans DC has in store for us.
