Here's what Rick Johnston of Bleeding Cool reports about some inner office controversy over at DC:

“Yes, there were a lot of people there, it had become quite the conversation piece. There was a lot of discussion about Kory and her sexuality the day before this issue went to press.”

“There were a handful of staff, mostly other women, who believed the writer was trying to equate being a strong woman with being, frankly, a slut. No one said that the writer was misogynistic, just that perhaps he was writing from a male perspective. It was firmly suggested to him that he could accentuate the character’s past as a sex slave. And that this might be an explanation for her sexuality, that she was acting out in her new life.”

“However, we were told he was adamant that Kory not be portrayed as a victim. The argument was made that if she was acting out sexually because of her past it mind that she mentally never left the prison planet.”

“In the end a compromise was struck and the sentence “I am a woman” [originally placed at the top of the third panel above] was lost.”

And here I thought Starfire only had a thing for ex-Robins. Apparently, she just has a thing for men in tights. Remember Speedy, bros before..... I'm just kidding.

Starfire is the name of several fictional comic book characters published by DC Comics. The most prominent Starfire is Koriand'r, the third character to use that name. She debuted in a special insert in DC Comics Presents #26 (October 1980), and was created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez.

Koriand'r has been married twice, both times to Tamaranean men: once to the prince Karras to seal a peace treaty; and once to General Phy'zzon out of duty. Karras died in battle, while Phy'zzon died trying to defend new Tamaran against the Sun Eater.

In between these, she nearly married Dick Grayson, but their wedding was interrupted by Raven (who was evil at the time). Raven murdered the priest before he could pronounce Dick and Kory husband and wife. The relationship was already on unsteady ground, with Kory fearing that Dick was rushing into marriage and also concerned about the anti-alien sentiments that sprang up in response to the news of the impending nuptials.

In the Titans of Tomorrow storyline, Batwoman said that Starfire would have a wonderful future with Nightwing. The half-blood Mar'i Grayson was born from their union in the Kingdom Come timeline. However, during Infinite Crisis, an image from the Titans Tomorrow timeline shows a gravestone implied to belong to a deceased Dick Grayson.

During Blackest Night, Starfire and Cyborg were subjected to a psychic attack by the Black Lantern Omen, putting them both in a euphoric state as they experienced their greatest desires (for Starfire, marrying Dick Grayson).

The sex thing was not and will not be the problem here. The memory thing IS. Her forgetting everything is stupid.
Her having casual sex cause why not? That's okay. It wasn't well written, but eh, it wasn't the worst comic ever either. It just wasn't good.

there's no such thing as bad publicity. time will tell if its a stunt to sell comics or there is some important part of the story. otherwise, yeah it's probably gratuitous, not like that bothers me or a lot of strong-minded women or there, but i can see the other side's point i guess.

So far the DC reboot has made they're female characters sluttier at least Catwoman and Starfire! I'm not complaining, hopefully wonder woman follows the same pattern!

Who says being loose is a bad thing, especially when it comes to Starfire.
I wouldn't say no! hahaha.

Who cares? To each our own. If Starfire acted like that for real, it doesnt make her a slut. It makes her not care what others think. That isnt so bad.

Especially considering the world we live in where all you hear about are people cheating, because they pretend they are something they arent.

Starfire is being herself and I think this is good to show that someone can be who they want no matter what it is. People need to stop projecting their morals on every character out there.

After looking at Gaston's pic, i guess it's safe to say Starfire's sexual appetite isn't something we can blame on the reboot....

So because Starfire is basically acting the exact same way real women are, people are pissed? I think the females are just jealous guys are more interested in a comic book character than them.

@sheebz

Tell me how is Starfire and Catwoman pushing the Sex for an entire line of comic books?

I find is sad that one is even paying attention to how Good Wonderwoman was this week.

Jeezus, people need to grow the hell up. How is a woman who enjoys having sexing controversial? Daredevil, Tony Stark, and older Green Arrow will pound anything that moves, but when woman says she likes sex or somehow initiates it herself it somehow becomes a big deal.

again why is this a big deal? she is an alien you can't expect her to have human morals. besides look at the examples above, obviously this is not new for the character.

@artistic

you are right wonderwoman was amazing, batgirl was amazing, birds of prey was great. its a shame people are so focused on this.

I plan on doing a series of Photoshop mashups where the pre-relaunch versions of Catwoman, Starfire, Roy Harper, Hal Jordan and a few others criticize their new versions, as if they were consultants on movies being made about them. For Starfire, I have her say the following after that panel is shown (it's sort of like a commentary thing):
"Okay, I've been a free spirit for most of my time on Earth, but one thing I've never been is SLUTTY. And that costume looks like something coughed up by Image circa 1993. And who the X'al hired Megan Fox to play me? Lobdell, in my opinion, is fired."

Catwoman on her "movie's" premiere:
"Seriously, Winnick, do I look like the Black Cat to you? I've had my share of flings with Bats, but even I had my limits."

Roy Harper on his portrayal in Red Hood and the Outlaws:
"Do I have to put up with this? I mean, can't we get a better script? I know it's pilot season, but surely we can do better than this. And get Ashton Kutcher of the set, PLEASE!"

Hal Jordan on his character's treatment in Green Lantern #1:
"WHAT THE HELL, GEOFF? You're the one who made me cool again, and now this??? I do NOT play Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Reynolds PLAYS ME."

Barbara Gordon on her title:
"Gail, I luv ya, but seriously? You can do better than make me a murder suspect in the first issue of my title. And you were the one who came up with Women In Refrigerators!"

Harley Quinn on her character in "Suicide Squad":
"Really??? THIS is what the guy who writes Supernatural came up with??? Okay, I admit I was head over heels for Mistah J, but there're levels even I don't sink to. I've never even killed a lawyer in my life, even if they ARE the ultimate crooks!"

Slade Wilson on the addition of a crew:
"Isn't it a little early to be 'jumping the shark', Higgins? What's next, you replace me with Ted McGinley?"

Damian Wayne on his portrayal in Batman and Robin (vol.2):
"Okay, I know I can be bratty at times, but this is just overkill. It's like you mixed Richie Rich and Scrappy Doo--not cool."

Green Arrow on his new story:
"Are you nuts, Krul? You stuck Justin Hartley in my book, and rewrote my story to be more 'Batman lite'. And the guy isn't even a lefty! What gives?"

Hank Hall on the art of his and Dawn's book:
"I admit, Liefeld did okay back when he first drew us. But now, why do all the guys look the same? That's just taking 'I take after my dad' a little to far. I'm sorry Rob, you need to improve."

Power Girl and Michael Holt on the relationship depicted in the book:
Holt-"Okay, how exactly did I quickly get over Paula's death? That's just cold, Wallace. REAL COLD."
PG-"Yeah, I like Michael, I really do, but as a friend. I don't see this in our future--and I like the Celtics more."

Honestly, it didnt bother me, seemed just casual, and Arsenal seemed to feel more awkward about it.

Thing that did bother me: Why the hell did Red Hood have the bat emblem on his chest?

That´s not shocking at all.

It was shocking in the 80´s, in the Marv Wolfman,George Perez run.

Starfire had been exiled for a few hours in Tamaran, and she was already banging some local prince, until Robin had to save her.

She´s no nun.

Maybe its just a case of bad writing. They probably want to portray her as a sexually liberated woman, and equal to men in that respect. I'm sure if that's the case it could have been handled better. The way it was done does leave it open to different interpretations.

If Starfire wants to be open about her sexual appetites, let her. She's hot and will probably be the only...reasons why "Red Hood and the Outlaws" should sell issues.
