TWO-FACE: Harvey Dent [bio]

"Some people go to the beach to forget their problems. They can watch the waves for hours. I understand the fascination. There's a pattern -- then there is no pattern. It's the same with the coin. We want it all to mean something -- We want to find the pattern -- But in the final analysis, it's just waves. The only absolute stays hidden like some glittering Snake, waiting in mirrored silence for the opportunity to strike. My hand trembles. I stare into the glass. Something terrible stares back. ''

Comic Book History

Who is TWO-FACE?
TWO-FACE is Harvey Dent, a criminal who has one-half of his face horribly scarred. He is obsessed by the number "2," duality, and fate. As such, all of the crimes that he commits revolve around the number "2," and he is psychologically unable to do anything else. Bob Kane and Bill Finger, first appearing in Detective Comics #66, created TWO-FACE. (1942)
First Appearance

At 26 years old, Harvey Dent is the youngest district attorney ever to serve Gotham City. He is elected about six months before Batman begins his war on crime. Dent, Captain James Gordon, and the Batman forged an alliance to rid Gotham of its crime families. However, a corrupt Assistant District Attorney was hired by one of the crime boss to disfigure Dent with sulfuric acid.

If you've notice the name above is Kent, later retcon will change his name to Dent to avoid confusion to Mr. Clark Kent, Superman

The acid hit Harvey Dent's face and scarred half of his face. The scarring did not only affect Dent physically but also psychologically, as a criminal persona, who is obsessed with duality emerged. Thus TWO-FACE was born.

TWO-FACE carries a double-headed coin around with him that has one of the heads scarred, and he flips the coin before he makes any decisions involving a question of law and illegal activities; even when it would senselessly inconvenience him, sometimes surrendering when he otherwise could have escaped.

TWO-FACE will go around Gotham committing his crimes and always revolving with the number "2".

In the "Hush" storyline, TWO-FACE has his face repaired via plastic surgery. With the fixing of his face, the "good" Harvey Dent persona re-emerged.

Later when Harvey Dent's integrity was questioned, his TWO-FACE persona resurfaced. Convincing the "good" Dent to scar his face again and return to a life of crime.

TWO-FACE attacked Dick Grayson, Batman, the hallucinating young Dark Knight sees a TWO-FACE as a Red and Black Batman.

TWO-FACE continues his criminal career but never truly evil, living most of his decision with a flip of a coin.

ANIMATED APPEARANCE/S
DC Animated Universe
TWO-FACE appears in Batman: The Animated Series, Richard Moll voiced him. District Attorney Harvey Dent suffers from deep-seated psychological trauma resulting from years of repressing anger. As a child, Dent developed another personality, "Big Bad Harv," who is as evil as the "Dent" personality is noble.

Batman: Brave and the Bold
TWO-FACE is featured in Batman: The Brave and the Bold voiced by James Remar. He appeared in several episodes in this series.

LIVE MEDIA APPEARANCE/S
BILLY DEE WILLIAMS
In the 1989 Batman movie, Billy Dee Williams appears as a pre-disfigured District Attorney Harvey Dent.

TOMMY LEE JONES
In Batman Forever, Tommy Lee Jones portrays Harvey Dent/TWO-FACE. The origin of his criminal personality is the same as it was in the original Golden Age comics. "Harvey TWO-FACE" plays up the "two" gimmick to the point where he even refers to himself in the plural.

AARON ECKHART
Aaron Eckhart portrays Harvey Dent/TWO-FACE in The Dark Knight (2008). In this film, TWO-FACE is a much darker character, albeit portrayed sympathetically both as a tragic hero and villain.

POWERS & ABILITIES
Note: Due to the nature of comicbooks being an on-going tale, the character's powers along with his appearance, is in a constant state of flux.

Powers

CBM FIGHT CLUB CHALLENGE

Message to the CBM community:
To those who are making requests, check first [here] because I might have done an article on the character already. If I have not, please be patient, I will get on it as soon as possible (but consider the fact that I spend hours writing one of these articles). Try to limit your request to characters that already have been adapted to live media, so that the feature will at least be relevant to the site – Comic Book Movie(though I include TV characters). Characters in Manga or Anime’, I am not particularly familiar of, I am not discounting these characters but it will probably take some time before I write a feature on them because I have to read up on these characters. Thank you for reading these articles! If there are errors on the feature article above, blame it on my age, humanity and ignorance. Just be sure to check the comment section for the corrections, any error I made will surely be pointed out and corrected by much bigger geeks (because there will always be a bigger geek out there). -This has been PollMaster inviting you to the geekside. MABUHAY CBM and Godspeed!

Love Two-Face. Good to see this one, pollmaster.

I really feel like Tommy Lee Jones was scrapping the bottom of the barrel in his portrayal, but knowing that he was involved in one of the worst CBM's ever I don't blame him. Jones is a gifted actor and I look forward to his role in Captain America.

If Tim Burton would have been able to draw out the story over a couple of movies, which I think was the intent, then Billy Dee Williams would have been excellent in the role. One of the few white comic book characters you could make black without upsetting the fan base.

That being said, with Nolan's story detail Aaron Eckhart is the only one of the three that gave us a Two-Face that you could believe was being pulled apart pscholocically as well as physically. I'm just glad he didn't call his alter ego "Big Bad Harv" I really thought that was one of the few cheesy moments in the animated series.

Two-Face's apperance on Batman: The Animated Series is one of my (many) favourite things about that show, his charaterization was absoulutly amazing. I haven't been keeping track, has one of these article been done for The Riddler yet? If not then please do one, if so then please do one on Iron Fist and Shang-Chi.

Could someone please explaine to me how to post pictures and videos on the comments here, I can't quite figure it out myself.
