Well, Arcade means business. I guess poor Mettle wasn't quite as indestructible as he thought. Mettle (Ken Mack) wasn't what you'd call an A-list character by any means, but he was popular enough. I liked him anyway! What do you guys think about this? Be sure to pick up the first issue of Avengers Arena from Dennis Hopeless and Kev Walker tomorrow.

Arcade for the EPIC WIN!!!

adios Mettle, we barely knew ye. Hazmat is going to be pissed.

I'm glad it was Mettle, he didn't have much besides a)i can't feel, but kind of can, and b) i like surfing.

Still a good character though, stubborn noble refusal clearly won't fly in this book. The stakes are clearly set with this....fight, or get blown apart.

Its funny how Arcade has been D grade forever, but the concept around him is so incredibly twisted when you think about it.

Fight in insane games while i watch you die. Or win them...and then probably die anyway. And he gets off on it, he's like Jigsaw!!

Such an awful idea for a story. Killing characters in a story because the situation has real danger? Potentially interesting and meaningful. Creating a story centered on death? Stupid and wasteful. I will not be buying this Battle Royale/Hunger Games wannabe. Thanks for wasting an interesting new character. Who needs new characters when we can just read about the same old characters doing the same type of things they've been doing for over half a century?

@BIGBMH I couldn't agree more. Screw this book! So he's dead, just like that? I always like the little guys & support them no matter what so [frick] This hunger games piece of garbage, it's a neat idea but you can't do this to characters people loved reading about in Avengers Academy & the other books. You crossed the line marvel. Not only is killing off characters in a hunger games kinda way stupid but what happens at the end? How will this book even get to #10? This murder world better be some sorta BS virtual reality Marvel. Corny yes? But corny is the only way that will pull your ass out of the fire now.

Arcade has always been bad@$$!! I still have some books from 82 with him torturing the X-Men. If there has ever been a D grade villain that needs some movie love its him.

This does seem rather wasteful of some good characters. Then again everyone will also be mad if they are all revived at the end of the series

It's not like they would engage in those worn out cliches found in horror themed stories, namely killing the black dude first, right?!?

Mack (Mettle) was depicted with dark brown skin and dreads and was considered to be a "person of color", or in layman's terms "a black dude". His mother was Jewish and his father was of either African or Polynesian heritage.

what amused me most about this book? arcade actually says he got this idea from a book he read in prison...

honestly i have always enjoyed battle royale-type stories and this was a good first issue.

Wow, I thought I was the only dude who liked Arcade. I'm shocked to see him as the big man in this book. I don't know what to make of this, but I will be picking this up.

Sorry, Mettle. I have no clue who you are but, see you around... everywhere.

I'm trying to recall if there has ever been a Marvel character who actually stayed dead. Even Gwen Stacy came back as a clone. Can anyone think of any?

Don't recall Arcade having that bad 90s long hair when I saw him before. He was always a fun enough villain back in the day. Maybe not an A-list guy, but still well-motivated and well-rounded.

Always been a fan of Arcade. Interesting to see him actually gaining a body count, i'm struggling to think if he has ever actually legitimately killed anyone up until this point.
