COMICS: Teaser For The Return Of CAPTAIN MARVEL This July

No, not the DC fella! Practically no details yet, but Marvel have released a teaser pic announcing the return of Captain Marvel to the MU this coming July..

No creator, writer or artists attached yet (that we know of), and very little else to go on aside from this logo..

All we have been told is that we will find out more at Wondercon. Saturday, March 17 at the Talk To The Hat panel, 4:00PM PST to be precise. Coincidentally DC recently announced a revamp of their own Captain Marvel. Although that character will now be going by the name "Shazam", the name he used to shout in order to transform. It is not known if we will be seeing Mar-Vell - last seen back in 2010 during the "Chaos War" - return or a brand new character take up the mantle. I guess we will have to wait until Wondercon to find out.

Well...I'd like to see more for sure! But it's pretty interesting to know that he'll be returning. Let's see.

At least his return comes after a nice long break even after Chaos War which brought him back but he was removed from reality, so how they bring that back will be interesting

Well hopefully his popularity from The Avengers movie appearance will draw more business for his comic return ;-)

I dunno, I always hoped this death would stick, seemed to be meaningful in part for how rare it is, and how it was handled.

Pretty lame logo, I could have done that in Photoshop in less than a few minutes.

He was a good alley to Rich Rider in Annihilation.

Plus, I'd rather see the Phyla-Vell version of CM as seen in 'Guardian of the Galaxy'. I'd probably buy that!

Marvel Comics' "Captain Mar-Vell/ Captain Marvel" is weakest dick move a character they created (later to be replaced by Sentry). This character has affected the legacy of the true Captain Marvel from Fawcett Comics. Do your homework guys. This character sucks & existed in the 70s only so Marvel Comics could continue to retain their copyright on the name "Captain Marvel".
DC & Marvel just keeps screwing the true Captain Marvel, & I bet $ this "Return" is just so Marvel Comics can keep the copyright. DC will call now call him "Shazam" . . . timing a coinkydink?

And um . . . yeah, on THIS topic . . . f Marvel, f Axel Alonso, f Stan Lee, F DC, F Geoff Johns!!

Does it actually state which Captain Marvel? I mean, I get that they're using that logo, which is associated with the "original", but is it definitely going to be him or is it his son? or the black chick? or Marvel Boy?

Not a character I've ever cared for in any iteration (although I did dig Marvel Boy back when Marvel Knights launched). Even though I'm not a DC fan, Shazam!=Captain Marvel, I agree with Neal Adams. Stop being assholes Marvel.

Cool, perhaps it means that he'll be in Avengers?

Being that he's stayed dead for quite a while really and he had a very real issue (cancer for those who dont know) it'll be nice to see one of the classics come back.

great points here.

@ZombieOverEasy "Which Marvel exactly?" . . . funny if they brought back Pulsar/Photon/Daystar/Sceptre/Lady-of-Light.

@Intruder - I get it, you love Mar-Vell. At the same time that doesn't change the failure of DC and stupidity of Marvel Comics for allowing the true Captain Marvel his due.

It will be interesting to see how they explain his return. He was alesys one of my favorite superheros. Great character.

I hate people that complain about how character dying and comming back, its been going on since comics came about in the 30's, this is nothing new.

@MrNoFear

Who care if Superman influenced a character. Batman was influenced by The Shadow and The Phantom, but he is drastically different from both. Just because something is influenced by another doesn't mean they share great similarities or even little ones. Plus Captain Mar-Vell (Marvel) was made to be as human as possible, even eventually dying from human condition. Something that Superman nor Shazam can ever to aspire to.

This is just like you to try and start a flame war. Get over it you [frick]ing DC fanboy.

@JackNapier . . . haha "flame war":

OK, I think Danvers as new Captain Marvel (Mar-vell) ends this.

I never really got into Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell), not to say he's a whack character but I just never got into it. I thought Captain Marvel (Genis) was a little bit cooler IMO.

LordHuck - 3/13/2012, 2:27 AM
Bleh. I much prefer Noh-Varr the Protector over Genis or Mar-Vell

SWEET! They're bringing back Monica Rambeau? She was an interesting and underused character back in the day. Her energy-based powers were really useful, and something a little different than most of the characters around her. She also brought some needed diversity to the ranks of the Avengers.

I mean, it's gotta be her. Other Captain Marvel was still dead last time I checked. His death was a great story that shouldn't be cheapened by bringing him back.
niknik
niknik - 3/14/2012, 9:11 AM
The only guy who should be doing this story is Jim Starlin. He elevated the character to new heights and it was he who wrote and drew "The Death of Captain Marvel" after having lost his father to cancer.

and intern8 why dont you pull your ignorant head out of your ass and read Starlins run on the title before you spew your dumbass nonsense all over this page.
lntrn8
lntrn8 - 3/14/2012, 9:47 AM
@niknik - I will read TDoCM and read some of of Starlins work, as it comes highly recommended.

If its good, I will retract my comment that Mar-vell is a weak, lame character.

That won't change the fact that Mar-vell's PUBLICATION existence in the 70s also served as part of the political & legal stupidity between DC & Marvel Comics.
