Marvel Comics Launching A New THUNDERBOLTS Series With Hawkeye Leading New York's "Official" Superhero Team

Marvel Comics recently introduced a new, villainous iteration of the Thunderbolts, but the team will receive another overhaul this Mau with the launch of Thunderbolts #1. New York's only "authorized" team of superheroes will star in a limited series from Jim Zub and artist Sean Izaakse featuring Hawkey leading Spectrum, America Chavez, Power Man, Persuasion, and the debuting Gutsen Glory, "an experienced cyber-soldier seeking new glory."

In the aftermath of Devil's Reign, the Big Apple has big problems, and it’s up to a new group of Thunderbolts to turn things around. But when Clint Barton gets tasked with heading up this team and proving they can go toe-to-toe with anything the Marvel Universe can throw at them, the first opponent he’s going to have to face is himself.

"Writing Thunderbolts was my first in-universe work for Marvel and Sean Izaakse's first Marvel project as well, so getting to launch a new version of the team here with him on the team's 25th anniversary year is an absolute honor," Zub said. "I am so pumped to put Clint Barton, Monica Rambeau, America Chavez and a host of others through trials and tribulations aplenty as New York's only official super hero team. A lot of the ideas being unleashed in this series are things I've been wanting to do for years."

"Big action and big fun, drama, comedy and, of course, a few twists befitting the team that always keeps readers on their toes. Sean's artwork has never looked better and he's bringing his incredible skills to bear on stunning comic pages and eye-catching designs for new characters we're adding to the mighty Marvel Universe," the writer continues. "Our creative team is firing on all cylinders, so get ready for 'Justice, Like Lightning' to strike every single issue!"

We're definitely intrigued by this new take on the team and with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige now overseeing all aspects of Marvel Entertainment, we can't help but wonder if his influence is being felt here. After all, rumours continue to persist about this team debuting in the MCU!

Check out some cover art and character designs ahead of Thunderbolts #1's launch on May 25 below, and keep checking back here as we learn more about this new series.

Not sure why they're rebranding this team from ex villains and ONE hero to sole good guys

@Blergh - Yeah. They're missing the entire point of this comic now. I wasn't even really happy when it was a bunch of anti-heroes, with Punisher, Elektra, Red Hulk and them. So a team of straight up good guys is really stupid.

Just make a new team and give them their own name if you aren't going to do a team of villains.

Thunderbolts use to be a team of bad guys pretending to be heroes..and now is another Avengers franchise...team C or D?

So this will be a Hawkeye as the leader of the Thunderbolts vs Mayor Fisk? That sounds pretty interesting I must say

Like Hawkeye but not liking this line up. I would have liked the King in Black Thunderbolts roster for this. Have Hawkeye lead them.

What even is the point of calling them Thunderbolts when they're nothing like the original Thunderbolts? It's just another hero team. Pass.

I don't get the point of re-branding the Thunderbolts as a legit hero team. But I love Monica & Chavez, so I'll at least check it out.

After they overthrew Zemo, the original team went straight under Hawkeye’s leadership, so there’s at least that connection.

Kate Bishop needs to be a real friend and talk to America and do an intervention about her utter lack of drip.

To everyone saying why Thunderbolts? Marvel is missing the concept. I don't think they are. Right now DC has stuff going on with Suicide Squad/Task Force X. So maybe they're trying to not do the same exact thing. I give it two years though.
