EXCLUSIVE: Mark Millar's KAPOW! COMIC CONVENTION Won't Return To London Until 2014

Back in 2010, Mark Millar promised to bring the San Diego Comic-Con experience to the UK with the Kapow! Comic Convention. For two years in a row, he (and organisers Lucy and Sarah Unwin) delivered on that promise. Unfortunately, we have today learned that it won't return until 2014!

For the past two years, I've been lucky enough to attend the Kapow! Comic Convention both as a comic book fan AND on behalf of CBM. In 2011, I was there to see Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston present never-before-seen footage from Thor, while this year I got the opportunity to meet Mark Millar, Scott Snyder and Joe Quesada in person (three of the biggest names in comics, but also three of the nicest people who could hope to talk to). This barely scratches the surface as to just how amazing the job organisers Lucy and Sarah Unwin have done to make the event a weekend to remember for all of those lucky enough to be in attendance. With countless Millarworld titles hitting stands next year - not to mention their big screen adaptations - and Mark Millar's new job as Fox's Creative Consultant, the 2013 Kapow! Comic Convention has unfortunately been put on hold. However, there's no need to panic just yet as plans are already in motion to bring it back in 2014! Here is the statement in full (which also reveals some details about Millarworld Productions first TV show Pavilion of Dreams). Many thanks to Mark for exclusively sharing this with us.

Dear Friends,

Due to an increased workload in Millarworld and Millarworld Productions, we will not have time to arrange another wonderful Kapow! Comic Convention in 2013.

Sarah and I have had to make a very tough decision, and after much deliberation and poring over upcoming work schedules, we have decided to put Kapow! 2013 on hold. The event is a genuine pleasure to work on and everyone has been a total delight, but this year we are unable to dedicate the time necessary to deliver a weekend that once again exceeds the expectations of attendees, guests, exhibitors, publishers and studios.

Millarworld Productions first TV show ‘Pavilion of Dreams’ is scheduled to air on BBC One Scotland on Jan 3rd at 9pm and in 2013 both myself and Sarah will be heavily involved in the development and production of various TV shows and feature films.

We hope to return with an even bigger and better show for Kapow! 2014.

Best wishes and enjoy Christmas and New Year,

Lucy & Sarah Unwin

Went there this year, spoke with Snyder for a bit just after the DC panel on the saturday, got the batman 1 SS 9.8 signed by Snyder as well. Real down to earth guy, very humble.

The con is actually well organised, lot of stuff going on (there was lucha libre going on in a ring right at the entrance). Compared to London Super Comic Con (which I attended with some mates earlier this year as well - and was basically a comics marketplace), it's amazing.

Obviously, I don't think it will be at the same level as SDCC, but it's only the second year, and the comics culture is getting a lot of mainstream exposure due to the movies coming out (and smashing records). Sure it will be even better in 2014.

Thats disapointing, but at least they gave us plenty of notice. Been both years and enjoyed it. the wrestling this year while repetitive was unintentionally hilarious. One guy in normal clothes got injured, was laid out for hours lol

Well that's put a downer on my day. I really enjoyed 2011 and 2012's cons. This is some really crappy news...
