Warner Bros. Will Now Reportedly Adopt A "Fewer Cooks" Approach To The DC Films Universe

News of the shakeup at Warner Bros. continues to come in, with this latest report indicating that the studio now intends to adopt a "fewer cooks in the kitchen" approach to their upcoming DC projects...

On the heels of two big announcements regarding changes in leadership roles at Warner Bros., this latest report indicates that the studio also plans to implement some changes when it comes to policy.

According to The Wrap, WB will adopt a "fewer cooks" approach to the DC Films Universe in the aftermath of Justice League's disappointing box office run. This means that newly promoted Chairman Toby Emmerich will no longer have to "greenlight by committee", and will answer to no one but CEO Kevin Tsujihara.

Apparently, this new policy also extends to how the projects will be marketed.

One insider reveals that many at WB felt the decision to exclude Henry Cavill's Superman from Justice League's promotion was "bizarre", and may have ultimately cost them a bigger opening weekend. Some of the blame for this seems to have been laid at the feet of veteran marketing chief Sue Kroll, who is said to have "hated superhero movies" (she vehemently denies this) and has now moved into a producing role.

It remains to be seen if this shakeup yields any positive results, but one thing is for sure: Tsujihara wants the DCEU (or whatever it's officially called now) to forge ahead without attempting to duplicate the Marvel formula.

“Warner Bros needs to continue doing what it’s always done: producing the biggest, most diverse slate in the business. That’s what’s made us successful. We can’t do what Disney’s done. It’s worked really, really well for them, but it’s not who we are. We need to continue to create a balanced slate of all types of movies and all genres.”

@NateBest

Hey man. I think I speak for everyone when I say that you are a super-respected site-runner, and you always seem to have a reasonable, even handed approach to this website.

For that reason, I’m writing to discuss the recent uptick in Josh’s cli¢kbait article AND comment censorship. I'm writing this comment here because Josh deleted my previous post of this message from his article. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/venom/venom-heres-your-first-official-look-at-tom-hardy-as-eddie-brock-a156941 along with at least one repost by another user, @Thelastdalek

In the past few weeks, josh has generally posted no less than 4 clickbait articles per day, sometimes more. They have no substance or integrity, and are often phrased to be not just provocative, but incendiary.

The article linked above is a perfect example of that. By the time u read this, he may have changed the article's title and image four or five times (due to a flood of complaints), but the fact remains that he has demonstrated again and again his lack of commitment to adding VALUE to CBM. Yes, he may generate clicks, and yes, that may translate into revenue for you, but at what cost?!? It’s bringing the whole site down. I would even go so far as to say that his affinity for being a provocateur is the direct cause of the past trends in trolling and “team-building” that has lead to so many users being banned.

I'm not saying that Josh is a bad writer. I think he is an excellent writer and has a great deal of potential to be one of the best contributors on this site (in terms of quality, not quantity). But it just seems like he is only in it for the clicks and riling up the readership.

Personally, i have stopped reading his articles all together (at least not intentionally). Whenever I see an article by Josh that isn’t 100% bonafide clickbait, i usually open a new tab and search the headline in Google to check it out on another website, just so that his clickbait habits are not rewarded. The other authors are altogether much much better, and I click their articles happily. I've even seen a few contributors thank the other authors for helping them edit an article so that it was fit to post (instead of taking it for themselves).

Now, I said as much on @DJRock93’s “first” post when I first read this article. A lot of people were complaining, and I directed them to read it. It wasn’t long before Josh started deleting/censoring those comments, along with DJRock93’s comment, which (imo) is a gross abuse of editorial power. They weren't derogatory abusive, insulting, or trolling... i was just expressing my disappointment and stating what I do to avoid that disappointment. Instead of re-writing it to other users that were complaining, I simply directed them to read my original post if they wished, which many did and responded in the affirmative.

I believe there ought to be SOME sort accountability for the contributors on this site. Perhaps – like the ‘report comment’ option in the comments section – u might add a “report clickbait” to an article, and if it goes over the average complaints, the author is somehow censured.

Also, there should be a flag if an author is rampantly removing comments. Not cool, and (as said before) an abuse of power. I definitely think that a contributor ought to have their comment-removing abilities revoked for a few days if they are found to be misusing that ability.

Please reinstate my earlier comments if you agree, Nate. I think it’s a reasonable request.

All the best (no pun intended).

@Derdpool @DJRock93 @NateBest - Josh has been deleting comments that offend him for months and months and months. Even the simplest things that are respectful but critical. If he doesn't like it, it's gone. His clickbaits are making this site look extremely cheap, and his dictator style of moderating makes it pointless to discuss anything in his articles. I'm glad to see more people getting sick of the crap.

@Derdpool - Thank you so much for posting this and wording it so eloquently. Josh Wilding is a CANCER to this site and significantly decreases my enjoyment of this site. Everything he posts is meaningless, worthless clickbait. To make matters worse he floods the front page with his clickbait garbage so other much more worthy contributors can’t even get on the front page (or most recent article page, however it’s called).
I have also learned to completely ignore his articles as I know they have no value whatsoever.
Wilding is a malignant hack and he should not be allowed to continue exploiting this site or its loyal followers.

I read that as “we’re giving up on the shared DC universe and whatever happens happens. “

I say just continue where the universe leaves off but make movies with better stories. It’s like they look good visually(most of the time), and action is good( most of the time ) but the stories and villain motives have been vague and dumb ever since BvS... MOS is still my favorite in the current DCEU because Zod was great and the movie was probably one of the better written stories.

@slickrickdesigns - "It’s like they look good visually(most of the time)" I actrually disagree, the muddy weird look of man of steel is in suicide squad and bvs and a little in wonderwoman.

Just concrety and greyish

@QueenCipher - muddy weird look?
I considered it super contrast and bumped up saturation with dark backgrounds... and I think it works in visually differentiating DC films from Marvel. The darker tone comes through in style and you can seem them trying for it in there stories. That’s why JL comedic moments feel so out of place in that universe.

@QueenCipher - I like the look of all the movies outside of Justice League. Some scenes there are good....like when Superman comes back to life. Others not so much. But Man of Steel, BvS, and Wonder Woman were just perfect.

@slickrickdesigns - yeah what we need to hear is that the owner isn’t going to be bothering the cooks anymore and just let them do their job.

But in order to do that, they need some better cooks.
