RUMOR MILL: DOCTOR STRANGE Sequel May Include Some Crazy Cameos...Like Tom Cruise As Iron Man?!

In perhaps one of the silliest rumors we've seen do the rounds for some time, it's being claimed that Marvel Studios is considering some wacky cameos for the Doctor Strange sequel, including Tom Cruise!

In "Rumor Mill," we share the hard to buy rumours that don't come from reliable sources like the trades, but are still more believable (just) than what you might find on Reddit.

The expectation is that Doctor Strange in the Mulitverse of Madness will include visits to any number of alternate Earths and timelines, and with Sam Raimi at the helm, many fans have been keeping everything crossed that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man could make a surprise appearance.

As spectacular as that would be, the team over at The Direct have shared a wacky scoop in which it's claimed a number of cameos are in the works showing different actors playing familiar faces.

One idea being considered is that Tom Cruise would play Tony Stark from another Earth; he was once up for the lead role in Iron Man before Robert Downey Jr. landed the gig, and we're sure the Mission: Impossible actor wouldn't turn down a high paying bit part in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film!

However, this rumor is a hard one to believe, and it could prove to be a little too outside the realm of possibility. Depending how crazy things get in the Doctor Strange sequel, though, we might be surprised.

It's probably best not to get too excited, but stranger things have happened in the MCU.

Bullshit.
This is just someone hearing all the DC rumours and pulling random shit out their ass.

@NodrickStripson - My thoughts exactly. While it would be cool to see all the alternate casting that would have happened over the years, the budget would balloon enormously just trying to cram all the cameos.

@patgreyc - Matt Damon's cameo didnt kill Thor's budget. Its totally doable as long as they don't have too many. Also I would like Nathan Fillon to reprise his cut role as Simon Williams. Maybe ihis can fit into how Vision comes back somehow. He finally gets Simon Williams brain pattern.

@NodrickStripson - This is exactly what i was hoping for... nothing else would justify the title of "multiverse of madness"... we may see Snipes as Blade, Norton as Hulk, Cage as Ghost Rider, the old FF members, even Affleck as DD... only THIS would justify the title.

@NodrickStripson -

Why not? Marvel expanded the sequel for Captain America Civil upon being caught flat footed with the news that the Man of Steel sequel
had become Batman V Superman.

When It became known that BVS was going
to have Wonder Woman in it and become a defecto Justice League Origin film, Marvel announced it had added Spider-Man and Black Panther to Civil to pair with Ironman to out hype the DC film.

With all the rumors flying about WB making The Flash into a Justice League level film with big stars showing up for cameos, why wouldn’t Marvel also at least think about loading its own
multiverse film that’s set to come out just ahead of The Flash, with some mega star power of its own?

Why wouldn’t Marvel take advantage of having Sam Raimi to introduce none MCU versions
of Marvel characters to the Macau?

@NodrickStripson - exactly. I mean, the dc nic cage superman rumor actually makes sense, since superman lives is such a popular failed project they even made a documentary covering the production. Not to mention making him the burtonverse superman makes sense since burton was attached as director. But cruise as stark? Like 5 people outside of the production would even know that was almost a thing without reminder. Not to mention it never went farther than working out story details before cruise was replaced with downey.

Agree with you!

Tom Cruise could be the perfect for playing Scott Summers / Cyclops character, not the Iron Man

If you are going to open the door on ‘Multiverse...Alternate Realties...etc’ it seems like a waste to not go for the gusto and really have some fun with this stuff

Have a Cameo of the Avengers

Tom Cruise - Iron Man
Edward Norton, Jr. - Hulk
John Krasinski - Captain America
Tom Hiddleston - Thor
Emily Blunt - Black Widow

And other stuff...

@IronGenesis - I think the most obvious options would be Tobey as Spidey and Jackman as Wolverine. also, Sam Raimi, Maguire is not out of the realm of possibility, people would literally flip their sh*t seeing that........f*ck me, I just thought of something too awesome to ever become a reality: what if, IF, whatever threat Strange has to take care of in this movie is too big for him and he has to resort to assemble a rag-tag group of alternate reality heroes to defeat it, and Maguire Spider-Man is one of them.

You know damn well they’re bringing Hugh back as Wolverine.

@PerrinNation1 - Me too, but a multiverse without the longest running actor to play an iconic character like Wolverine. Idk man.
ChimiFnChangas
ChimiFnChangas - 9/21/2020, 5:15 PM
@CBMFilmJunkie - And they should put Deadpool in there. It's probably their only chance to have them on screen together.
Twenty23Three

I’d love to see Tom Cruise in a CBM so wouldn’t want him wasted on a bit most people wouldn’t even understand. Still want him as a mature Hal Jordan to train John Stewart in a Green Lantern
JonC
JonC - 9/21/2020, 8:47 AM
@Twenty23Three - Keep in mind the "what if" series basically allows heroes to become other than the norm... Peggy as Captain America, Steve as Iron Man... the multiverse of madness could allow this to play out... so while we may see a cameo of Tom Cruise as Iron Man from another universe he may actually be cast as a villain in the current universe... this would add another great layer to the character... those that know of him from both universes like Strange might have doubts about whether they can turn him or trust him in each universe... very juicy options for complicated story telling in the future in you ask me.

I would like it if Tom Cruise was tom cruise as iron man, not tony or some bologna name, like Shoney’s, homie
