Will Benedict Cumberbatch's DOCTOR STRANGE Have An American Or English Accent?

Benedict Cumberbatch was asked last night if his Sorcerer Supreme will be using his own English accent or an American one. Hit the jump for his response, as well as comments from Felicity Jones and Lupita N’yongo on becoming part of the Star Wars franchise...

So, Benedict Cumberbatch evaded answering that pretty well! It's an interesting question though. Doctor Strange is obviously American in the comic books, but he's the kind of character you can imagine an English accent suiting well. Sadly, it will likely be a long time until we find out either way! In the second video, Felicity Jones (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Lupita N’yongo (12 Years A Slave) are a little more forthcoming about their respective Star Wars roles, but not much. The latter has a mystery role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, while Jones has been cast as the female lead in Gareth Edwards' 2016 spinoff. What do you guys think of these comments? Sound off below!

Well, if they could make Professor X English in the movies without trouble, then I'm sure people won't mind an English Stephen Strange. Besides, it'd add some much needed multinational spice to the mostly American MCU.

If they was to change him to a brit, I wonder if people are going to make a huge deal about it.

If Peter Parker is black, so many haters of MBJ's casting would be so confused. I want it to happen.

You try imagining someone saying "By the hoary hots of Hoggoth, I command you foul demon, return from whence you came!" in an American accent.

I sure as hell can't.

Actually THE WRAP (relatively reliable source) says it has 95% probability of the new Spider-man not to be white, perhaps not even Peter Parker ...

It will be funny to see the reactions of marvelites when this information is confirmed

@NerdMan

Your comment just reminded me of one of the few things I liked from the Amazing Spider-Man movies. They gave Peter Parker a New York accent. Being a New Yorker myself, I thought that was pretty awesome.

Would be cool of the next Spidey has that also.

I'd rather he use a british accent than have him sound unnatural. Honestly we need to diversify the Marvel Universe we need someone that isn't American and human.

Is Dr. Strange from Nebraska? Makes sense since he is a conceited plastic surgeon.

I wouldn't mind a British accent. If they can turn a British Blade into an American one and make it work (Let's not forget Professor X), then I don't see what's wrong with the reverse.

I say let him have a british accent and then change it to american when he gets his magical powers… Because all americans are action heroes…

unless he shares a universe with Harry Potter, then definitely a british accent because only brits can do magic in the Potterverse…
