Marvel Meets With DRIVE Star Ryan Gosling For DOCTOR STRANGE Role
Drive and The Place Beyond the Pines star Ryan Gosling has shied away from superhero roles in the past, but The Hollywood Reporter now reveals that the dashing actor has met with Marvel Studios for Doctor Strange. Warner Bros. are also eyeing him for a lead role in one of their movies too!
Marvel seemingly had their hearts set on casting Jaoquin Phoenix as the Sorcerer Supreme, but after he balked at the longterm commitment he would have to make with a multi-picture deal, the hunt for someone else to play the fan-favourite Marvel character began anew. A number of names emerged yesterday, but we now have another courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter. According to the site, "the 33-year-old actor has met with Marvel Studios to discuss starring in the title role in Doctor Strange." He's also said to be fielding an offer to star in The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America's First Superhero, so the ball is very much in his court as to which role he ends up taking (if any). Gosling is very much in demand as Warner Bros. are courting him to play one of the members of the Suicide Squad in David Ayer's 2016 adaptation. The site also mentions that Jared Leto and Justin Theroux are actively chasing the role, while both Ethan Hawke and Keanu Reeves' names are now in the mix. The actor is notoriously picky and he may end up refusing roles in all of these, especially when it comes to committing to sequels. What do you guys think?
