BOX OFFICE: DREDD 3D Ends Domestic Run With A Paltry $13.4 Million

After a disappointing $6.3 million opening at the North American box office back in September, DREDD 3D has finally ended it's theatrical run and the domestic total for the critically acclaimed reboot confirms that it had one of the worst wide releases of the year.

What a terrible shame. The superb DREDD 3D has finally concluded its run at the North American box office with a measly $13,414,714. According to Box Office Mojo, that means it had one of the worst wide releases of 2012. It failed to ever take off in the US, but had no problem taking the #1 spot in the UK. Internationally, the reboot made $10,100,000, giving DREDD a total of $23,514,714. With a budget of $45 million, you can now just about guarantee that a sequel will NEVER happen. You can read my 5* review by clicking HERE.

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson, a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

This is so sad, I bet if he was Batman tons of people would've gone seen it. The General Audience needs to be more open-minded with CBM films, especially with the good ones.

Damn. This movie truly was good.

1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. The Avengers
3. Dredd 3D
4. The Amazing Spider-Man

Just my opinion.

who is to be held responsible for this tragedy? The studio that did not promote it enough? the close minded people who rather watch jennifer Laurence on a horror flick? The curse of the Silvester Stallone film? a sad indeed.

Marketing, marketing, marketing. Helped kill JOHN CARTER (a decent but decidedly not spectacular effort) too.

If this movie was a PG-13 rating, it wouldve made more gross more than likely.

You VERY rarely hear of R-rated movies doing a killer at the box office.

this was pretty damn good movie...DVD sales might help it out, but sad that it will not get a part 2.

I think the low advertisement and stink from Stallones Dredd movie gave it a bad reboot.

SO many people talk shit and never saw the movie on my fb page. The movie was fantastic.....

I like stallones movie also lol.

Thats a damn shame, i really enjoyed this movie and for sure will be buy it on DVD, great action and they didnt hold back on the violence, got the bad taste of Stallones version out of my memory while watching it...Would've hoped for a sequel though to see where this franchise could've gone.

"This is so sad, I bet if he was Batman tons of people would've gone seen it."

I'm pretty sure you have your own preferred types of films. While Dredd is a comic book movie, it ain't the same type as Batman. Your comparing apples and oranges.

"The General Audience needs to be more open-minded with CBM films, especially with the good ones."

I liked this film but this movie clearly had a certain theme. It was a movie about a guy who dresses up in a costume and uses his powers to stop the forces of evil. This was a movie about a cop in a hellish future.

Also I sure as hell wouldn't take my kid to see Dredd. I wouldn't take the whole family. I wouldn't want my kid to mimic the guy.

Had Dredd actually been a film similar to Batman then you would have a point. But just being based off a comic is not enough to make your statement.
