Well, here is something interesting... Devil May Cry big screen adaptation is in the works! Based on the highly successful and popular video game franchise, Dante is finally coming to the big screen.

From Variety:

"In hopes of kickstarting its newest genre franchise, Screen Gems has purchased feature film rights to vidgame publisher Capcom's hit series "Devil May Cry."

Kyle Ward has been hired to pen the script, which revolves around the character of Dante, who avenges his mother's murder by killing off demons."

Now, we are all aware of the bad movies based on video games, but this really has a potential to be something unique and epic.

And here is a brief summary of the game courtesy of IMDb:

2,000 years ago the human world was ruled over by the demon world. However, one of the demons, the legendary dark knight Sparda, awoke to justice and defeating the evil emperor Mundus sealed the demon world away from the human world. He then sealed his own darkest powers away (fearing he would become a threat to the humans himself) and assumed a human form, living among the humans, and for 2000 years he preserved the harmony of the worlds. Eventually Sparda fell in love with a human woman called Eva and had twin half blood sons, Dante and Vergil. However, Sparda died, and shortly after, Eva was killed in a demon attack that separated the two sons. Hating the demons for taking away his mother and his brother from him, Dante becomes a demon hunter and continues his fathers work, seeking revenge.

price of persia had great potential but that wasn't exactly great not bad either. But hey you can't go wrong with dante beating the crap out of demons, they should not tone down the violence and blood involved. All they need is a great actor to play dante.

As long as it has the usual bad-ass action scene like in the game I'm in, I won't even care if the storyline sucks

I played a bit of the third game a while back, was fun.
Hope the movie adaptation is good. Prince Of Persia proved that video game adaptations have serious potential.

Well they need a charismatic actor to play Dante. A while back I would've said Chris Evans but he'll be busy playing Cap now. I dunno. Jensen Ackles? Chris Pine?

Exiles - 2/28/2011, 5:45 PM
ackles or somerhalder maybe, not pine, evans is too busy. You need a actor who can play a charismatic badass, and you need some bad ass fight scene.

plus they should go with the classic look definitely not the new look dante has.

First Uncharted, now my precious Dante??

Now, it is possible for them to pull this off. If they get the story right, and I mean PERFECTLY RIGHT.. They also need to make the right casts and choose the right part of the series to start from. If they could get the right composer and the crew of Inception, this could work. However, I have zero confidence in this, so...
yep we're screwed

I´ve lost interest and hope when I read "Screen Gems has purchased". [frick]ing FOX and Screen Gems had done the worst movies based on some of the best Video Games ever.

If this must be done, I can see Ian Somerholder as Dante, but this is being done by Screen Gems, so it might suck.

White Haired Dante, please!!!! And make it go in order, DMC3 > DMC > DMC4 > DMC2 (if its successful). The movie doesn't even have to be long if you ask me, just as long if Dante is kicking demon ass!!! (And gets stabbed by his own blade)

@NeoBaggins
Make is James McTigue directing, Donnie Yen Choreography, Del Toro's team can be kept, and at least an 80 million dollar budget and I can see it happening.

About damn time!!! Before Arkham Asylum came along my favorite game was Devil May Cry. My god is it fun. Ive been waiting for a movie of this game for a long time.

As long as its better than those fan made movies then ill be happy.

NeoBaggins - 2/28/2011, 7:47 PM
Dynamo, that's actually a pretty nice set up. 80 mil should do the trick. Sucker Punch is doin about 85 and the FX look pretty solid. Devil May Cry needs to be a real production. Not like Bloodrayne, Dragonballz and that awful Tekken shit they made.

While I don't mind the occasional game title being adapted into live-action movies, this is starting to get a bit ridiculous. And looking back at the way those adaptations were done in the past, most of them are a disgrace to the franchise and to all their fans.

Intruder@ uhmmm....probably a 23 or 24.

Prince of Persia was so so, but all other video game movies sucked. Although, the original Tron was pretty sweet.

FYM! ;-)
LOL

Rodimus9, Tron was never an adaptation of a video game into a movie even though it had a cameo of pac-man - an actual video game - in the first film... it only became one after the fact. So technically, it's not classified as a VGM.

Prince of Persia was a good movie. It was probably the most decent VGM out of the lot to come out over the years as it actually made an almost coherent sort of sense from beginning to end... not like the others that screwed everything up. At least PoP stayed as close to as possible to the premise of the game regardless of the fact everybody in the cast was barely Persian...
