Cameras are now rolling on Paramount Pictures' Dungeons and Dragons movie in Northumberland, and some intriguing photos from the Alnwick Castle set have found their way online (via The Chronicle).

Though the snaps don't appear to feature any of the main cast members, there are several extras decked out in armor, as well as some sinister-looking caped individuals with head tattoos. The Forgotten Realms Wiki has also identified the blue flag flying on the battlements as the emblem of Neverwinter, AKA the Jewell of the North, while the red banner emblem is thought to be the symbol of Amaunator.

The photos aren't particularly revealing, but there are some lovely shots of the castle, dry ice billowing over the River Aln, and the surrounding woodland area. Be sure to click the link below to take a look for yourselves.

Dungeons and Dragons will star Chris Pine (Wonder Woman 1984), Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar, Fast 9), Justice Smith (Detective Pikachu, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton), Sophia Lillis (IT), and Hugh Grant (Paddington 2) as the villain.

Game Night directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are set to helm the project, and wrote the latest version of the script based on a previous draft by Michael Gilio. Plot details are still under wraps.

Derek Kolstad (John Wick; The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) has also been hired to write and develop a separate live-action Dungeons & Dragons television series, but again, details are few and far between.

@Godzillakartt - I had a buddy try to get me into his D&D games in high school, but I never took him up on it. After getting into Critical Role (as something to listen to while I'm working out), I've come to really regret that decision.

Haven’t seen an even reasonably watchable D&D movie yet so I won’t get my hopes up. Hell, I have played campaigns better than the last turd

@lawndart - Watchu talkin bout?

D&D was epic on a Street Fighter kinda level.

Jeremy Irons brought it so hardcore they had to break this up into TWO gifs!

@Feralwookiee - it made for a more comedic take on fantasy but I’d prefer something more like LOTR or GOT.

Given the nature of D&D, there should be a lot of freedom in how they're gonna tackle story and character. And hopefully that'll work to its advantage

I am most certainly in the minority here but I didn't hate the 1st movie. Started playing D&D in 1983 when I was in the third grade. Haven't played in a while though

You want to honor D&D, give us a Dragonlance series of movies, like Weis and Hickman did with the novels.

@inkniron - Yes Yes and Yes. I used to dream of seeing Caramon and Raistlin on the big screen when I was a kid.

The Forgotten Realms is an incredible setting. Though I still think Dragonlance is the perfect vehicle for bring D&D to film, as it is a great epic trilogy.

I don't understand why Hollywood has so much trouble cracking the broad "sword and sorcery fantasy" genre. You don't need an official trademark brand like Dungeons and Dragons since essentially all of the concepts involved are public domain.

The big trademarks might even hurt the movies. Look at World of Warcraft. So much of it was just fanservice for gamers who never bothered to show up to theaters (probably because they'd rather raid on their night off... because they're gamers).

Game of Thrones and the Witcher are mostly great books, but there's nothing in them that couldn't be generated on the fly by a good screenwriter. So where are the good screenplays? Is it just that studio executives don't understand nerd shit, but they do understand that Wizards of the Coast makes a lot of money by selling merchandise, therefore it might make a lot of money in a box office? ...Yeah, that's probably it. I think I cracked it. Thank you for coming along with me on my journey of discovery.

I was hoping for a serious and somewhat dark take on this movie, but this cast I don't see that happening. Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and........Hugh Grant?

I don't know about this...
