Andy Serkis, who served as the second unit director in the Hobbit films was going to make his directorial debut with Jungle Book: Origins. The film was intially going to be released in October 2016, before being pushed back to October 2017 to complete the work on VFX. In April 2016, before the release of Disney's The Jungle Book, the film's date was moved again to 19 October 2018, titled Junle Book.

In an interview with the screenrant, Andy Serkis talks about his "Jungle Book", about how he used real locations to shoot the film and Preformance capture.

“Well, ours is using Performance Capture and theirs didn’t. Ours is shot on location, it’s in real locations, we shot in South Africa. [The film] is very much more like Live Action Photography… We have these actors who played the animals as opposed to [just voicing] the animals, so there’s a great difference in that. The way of embodying that character and owning that role all the way through the conception and authorship of the role.

Andy Serkis goes on about how the his film is sitcking close to original source material. "[This version], as [in] the book, is grounded in India. It’s Colonial and turn of the century, so it has that sort of authenticity and I suppose that sense of [being] closer to Rudyard Kipling’s World.”

This film will have a more mature tone compared to the Disney's version.“Also [our Jungle Book] is made for an older audience — it’s not for 5 year olds, it’s not for Disney family ages. It’s darker, it’s much closer to Rudyard Kiplings book, the tone of Rudyard Kipling’s book.”

So, what do you think of Andy Serkis's comments ? Are you excited to see the film ?

... well, seems that officially they are out of ideas.
why the hell they would release a different version of a movie, with the same type of representation with just two years of difference?

@JakeofAllTrades - so? that doesnt matter. the point is that we are going to have the same story from different point of view.

It would be like had a universal's version of the dark tower after the release of sony's dark tower

@MercSoul - See yer point, but I was disappointed with the Disney remake - as I expected I would be. The 1994 Jason Scott Lee/Sam Neil/Lena Headley/John Cleese version was way better. Had some really cool dramatic scenes, hardly any cgi. It just feels like a more relevant film than the Disney remake.

@MercSoul - The two studios started production independently of one another, neither was aware of the other until they were to far in to back out. I feel bad for this one, it seems like a real passion project for Serkis and being out second will definitely hurt its box office...
