Peter Jackson Anonymously Swears He's Not Directing The Hobbit Yet

It looks like Deadline was wrong about something again...

Awhile back, Deadline confirmed that Peter Jackson will be directing the Hobbit. Claiming that Jackson is definitely not confirmed to step in to direct The Hobbit, Knowles quotes a source he refers to as "Derek" -- which, by the way it's quoted, is actually Jackson himself.

"No, nothing has really changed - I've always said that me directing was one option, and so that's not really news. The studio are working out what that deal would look like, because how else do they know if it's a viable option? But it's honestly one of several different options - many irons are in the fire right now. What's of great concern to everyone right now is trying to stay on schedule and not slip back another year, because we will start losing people - and that's increasingly difficult as each day passes. A lot of people - both film makers and studios are working very hard right now, trying to get a positive outcome here."

I hope he directs, this is taking too long.

I really just want the goddamn movie. Don't care if Jackson does it anymore. It just has to be novel faithful.

Those who have followed Jackson's career will note that "Derek" is the name of a character played by Jackson in his first film "Bad Taste". Lends a little cred.

Ian Mckellen said the movie is a go and they have already started to cast. I follow him on Twitter. The director is the only part of the darn movie that is being held up. I wish Peter will do it, he is the only guy I trust to do it and be faithful to Tolken. However, I am loseing faith and just wish this movie would start already. However, Mr Mckellen said that even if the director was chosen soon, the movie is not likely to start filming until late 2010 early 2011 which means the movie will not even hit theatres until late 2012 early 2013.

@ Destroyer
Maybe check your article.. You say this is from Deadline, then say something about "Knowles'" source.

Knowles is Harry Knowles from Ain't It Cool News, and he posted his article around 5:47 am this morning.

Just trying to help ;) Clear up the confusion.

Good article!

A good little bit but it's really just restating what PJ already said and only confirming that nothing has been signed yet. Let's just hope that all the studio people, the ones wearing the suits, can work stuff out and let the creative process really move forward.

And @ mstargel: LMFAO!!!

@Destroyer

I'm just saying that Knowles has nothing to do with Deadline. You should site both sources and not mash them together. That's not good reporting bud.

Like I said, just trying to help. :)
