We May See Aragorn In The Hobbit After All!

We May See Aragorn In The Hobbit After All!

Strider himself may be once again gracing our screen come Hobbit time...

Viggo Moretenson pretty much stole the show as Aragorn in The Lord Of The Rings movies, but since he is not in The Hobbit(except in the supplemental appendices from the book that tied the two stories together) it was doubtful that Gullermo Del Toro and Peter jackson would have Mortenson back to reprise the role in their upcoming movie adaptation of The Hobbit.

Well, we already know that Del Toro will be taking a few liberties with the story, and now it seems quite possible that we will be seeing Aragorn striding about Middle Earth once again...

According to movieweb, who were interviewing Mortenson about his new movie, The Road, the actor said he had lots of fun making the original trilogy and would love to return...

"My character is around at times -- in the middle, But it would only be if they made a second movie or connecting movie that connected The Hobbit to The Lord Of The Rings that I might appear, which would be great."

As we know, there will be two movies! So lets hope this happens. Yeah I know we don't see him in the book, but we don't see a lot of things that happen during the events of The Hobbit but that we hear about(What happened to Gandalf after the start of the story, the hunt for Gollum etc) so would it be so bad if we actually got to see them in a movie?

I don't know. I was kinda hoping that the hobbit movie would just stick to the book. I don't like the idea of them changing so many things. Aragorn was cool (though i like legolas better), but i can't imagine him being in the hobbit films, even if they are making a second movie to connect it to LOTR

I can imagine that people would sing this, as they see his feet

"You're as cuddly as a cactus, you're as charming as an eel"

Gotta love this!! Viggo is one of the most passionate actors out there. Hopefully this comes through.

A Hobbit's!

I really don't see this as too much of a liberty at all. They are not changing anything exactly, just showing us things that we only hear about in the timeline..whats the big deal there?

I say bring it! Make the movie that bridges the gap between LOTR and The Hobbit, make The Similiarian or however you spell it. Hell make a movie and let's see how Sauron came to power and made everone in existence fear him. BRING IT!!! Good find Ror. Great minds think alike.

Ewwww LEEE... put some shoes on! gg

LOTR i think was great. (I liked Legalos best). It would be interesting the spin they will take in having Aragon in the Hobbit. How would they fit him in? As a drifter? because he was reluctant in being the king in LOTR... so prior to this he wandered. Anyway, it would be something to see from a different perspective though I do hope they dont stray too far from the book.

well this wouldn't make sense as the Hobbit to the Lord of the Rings is like a 70-80 year difference right? Cuase Bilbo is having his like 110th birthday or something along those lines... I hate it when they change an epic book like this for their own stupid reason. There is no way to justify their reasoning if they do this.

Meh, I wouldn't complain if Aragorn made an appearance. I wouldn't want him to steal the show or anything. Maybe have him in the section that links the Hobbit to LOTR.

@ WarNoodle - Seeing as Aragorn is 87 at the time of LOTR(I think. It mentions this in the extended edition of LOTR), I could easily see him popping up in the story between Hobbit & LOTR.

@ jman

silmarillion would be pretty tough, i don't know if you've read it, but its not a story, more like an account of things that happened, almos like an encyclopedia

True that..but there is still a narrative there, that could be adapted for film..I agree with Bropous(What am I saying!) that it would be amazing if done properly.

I don't think clive owen was ever offered the role of Aragorn...if memory serves me correctly it was Stuart Townsend who was cast originally as Aragorn, and it was Daniel day Lewis who turned down the role...I've never heard of Clive ever being involved.

As for the Silmarillion...that'll make it to the screen the same year the entirety of In Search of Lost Time sees the silver screen.

@ Runefyst - true. but that would mean they would need to introduce him as a kid or teenager with a small part. That would be fine by me I guess... Just as long as they keep it a small part where we maybe see him and hear his name when asked what it is or something.

@ ror

yeah they could make a movie of silmarillion, because you're right, there is narrative there, but there would be a LOT of embellishing too. there would have to be, its not nearly as detailed as the LOTR stories. its almost like an outline of what happened. no real plot or character interactions.

its mostly a lot of, "And so it came to pass, that so-and-so went here and did this to so-and-so." you're not exactly reading a story of things happening. its someone talking about the past.

cdb, I just thought about this, I was originally of the idea that it couldn't be done well, untill I thought of silmarillion as sort of like the bible. You can't film the whole thing, and not all stories are worth telling( hence why there isn't a numbers or kings movie) but there are stories like Moses and the death of christ that are compelling in their own right. A similar thing could be done with silmarillion, pick some of the better parts and film those. it would need a lot of embellishing, as you said, but no body seemed to mind that in the passion of the christ so I doubt there'd be much of a squawk in fleshing out the silmarillion.

Bropous/Rorschach @ Thanks for the enlightenment on Silmarillion. I've read The Hobbit waaaaay bakc, but never heard of Silmarillion. I'm lookin it up tonight. Sounds amazing! If it's anything like you guys describe, it would make killer movie series!

meh, the children of Hurin was okay, but it felt like it was lacking something. I find that of most of his unfinished works, the tone is great but it seems slightly awry. I loved the classical elements though, it was a beautiful tragic tale...but it was obviously unfinished.

@ Ror I agree potraying events from Appedixes is far from taking liberties. If Tolkien wrote it then thats it. As for liberties; why on Earth Jackson ever decided to have elves show up at Helms Deep I will never know. Went against the entire theme of the books. That however was the only change that really bothered me in the movies.

Tolken died before it was finished and his sone finished it from memory of what J.R.R. had told as bedtime stories. So it is just someones memory of what he had heard growing up.

I was pretty sure it was townsend too, I remember it was a wtf moment for me when I heard he had been cast. And it wasn't over a dispute about the script Pete decided that he looked to young next to all the other actors on screen so he switched him out, and I think Townsend still received pay for making the movie, or at least that's what I remember reading.

I'm down with them augmenting the timeline to fit Strider in The Hobbit. Even if it's a smaller role, or it eliminates a Bard the Bowman or something. Would suck for the Bowman clan, but you can't please everybody.
