Crave has the highlights from the post-BNAT screening panel of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance which saw director Brian Taylor field questions and clear up some misconceptions about the film. Here's the highlights:

-Taylor said he and Mark Neveldine were given freedom to do their crazy sequel because Sony, even though they made a lot of money on Ghost Rider, nobody there liked it.

-Neveldine and Taylor did a pass on the script and added a scene to acknowledge that the plot is ridiculous. A kid asks Johnny Blaze why the devil bothers to take human form and Blaze can’t explain it. That’s the filmmakers’ way of telling us to just go with it. They also edited in a shot of Jerry Springer in post as a comment on how ridiculous the idea is.

-Taylor said the film itself was surprisingly low budget after above the line pay, meaning that even some folks involved with the first Ghost Rider got a fee. (Mark Steven Johnson and Avi Arad have producer credits.) But actual money spent on film? They shot in Eastern Europe for very little.

-Taylor had some issues with Ghost Rider’s wardrobe in the first one, so he changed it. “Why would Zarathos have any fashion sense,” Taylor said.

-Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance doesn’t have as much wild Crankness because the use of CGI meant they had to plan more shots, rather than freeball it on the set like they were playing in a sandbox.

-To get in character, Cage would wear Santeria makeup and black contact lenses in his Ghost Rider scenes. Taylor said he wants to include a full cut of the movie edited with Cage in makeup and no Ghost Rider CGI.

If you were hoping that the directors of the new Ghost Rider movie would stray from their usual film style to create a serious, darker Ghost Rider film, I think you'll be a little disappointed. In short, it looks like Ghost Rider will be very similar to the style of the Crank series of films that directors Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine have recently put out, which features a distinct style that definitely draws a line in the sand. So in regards to all those bad reviews that sprang out after BNAT, it appears that if you don't enjoy those style of films then you likewise won't enjoy the new Ghost Rider movie.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is an upcoming 3D superhero film based on the Marvel Comics antihero Ghost Rider, scheduled to be released in theaters on February 17, 2012. The film is a loose sequel to the 2007 film Ghost Rider. It will be directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Nicolas Cage will reprise his role as Johnny Blaze / Ghost Rider. It is the second film to be released under the Marvel Knights banner after 2008's Punisher: War Zone.

The film started principal photography in Bucharest, Romania in November 2010, using mostly local talent. Principal photography was completed on January 24, 2011. On March 16, 2011, it was confirmed that Johnny Whitworth would be playing the antagonist, which was also confirmed to be Blackout.

Three scenes were shot on set Castel Film. Among the places in the country chosen were Transfăgărăşan, Targu-Jiu, Hunedoara Castle and Bucharest.[29]

Filming in Turkey took place in Cappadocia, a historical region in central Turkey with exotic chimney topped rocky setting.

Shame. Those [Crank] films are really polarizing. I liked the first one but definitely not the second. Guess I'll have to check it out to make up my mind.

I strangely enjoyed both Crank movies, probably because they gleefully revel in the fact that they are beyond ridiculous and don't try to get you invested in the character/story..it's just carnage. It's when these type of movies get ideas above their station (Expendables, Transformers 2 and 3) that I start to hate them for even attempting to make a half serious movie when they have no chance of doing it.

Also, I wonder what the actual budget is. If it's under a $100 million then it may just turn a profit.

My favorite oomic bool characters in order are Batman, The Hulk and Ghost Rider.
There are otherrs I loke but those are the Top 3.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first Ghost Rider movie and was able to take my pre-k grandson without fear of him seeing anything that would give him nightares.
He today still likes the movie and still plays with the undamaged Ghost Rider motorcycles purchased after seeing the movie.
We also watch the movie on TV when it comes on and the
watch the video when the urge hits.
We hope there's a little more drawn out, not easy to win, fire and brimstone battles.
I hope Peter Fonda reprises his role as well.
You can believe my Grandson and I will be at the mmoviehouse to see it within the first 2 days of it's release (I do have a job to go to).

instead of a TV show, make a cartoon series based on the version from the BatMan?SuperMan/Justice League cartoon serise.

Oops Sorry I was thinking about Lobo, but use the same quality drawing style, not a mutated or deformed 3 fingers and a thumb chldish style of drawings.not the computer animated tyle unless you use the Star Wars Clone Wars style of coputer anime.

A GHOST RIDER cartoon would be the only way to make a worthwhile GR moving picture. With a series it could really allow for getting deeper into ideas explored in the comics and beyond.
