"The Ghost Rider is just the coolest looking superhero, and it has to be the one that goes to film and looks the best," Nic Cage explained in a recent interview with MTV News. I think they’ve achieved that with this.

"We wanted this black skull, with this gasoline fire and this black, inky smoke to get this real feeling of explosions and fire and heat," Neveldine added. "That’s something we really went for: ‘Let’s feel the heat in this movie.’"

"We’re both kind of tainted," Cage said of the supernatural villain 'Blackout' played by Johnny Whitworth. "We’re both working with dark forces that aren’t always entirely good, but he’s a little bit more left-of-center."

STARRING:

Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider
Johnny Whitworth as Blackout
Ciarán Hinds as The Devil
Violante Placido as Nadya
Idris Elba as Moreau

RELEASE DATE: February 17th, 2012.

This seems better then a lot of the shitty build up they had before the original Ghost Rider , who the hell knows. It's got more of a chance of being bad then good , but It could surprise people.

There is very little known about Blackout's early exploits. In his first appearance, he encountered the Ghost Rider (Daniel Ketch) as a henchman for the crime lord Deathwatch. He later ran afoul of the Kingpin while on a mission to obtain two mysterious containers. His mission was foiled by the Ghost Rider, and Blackout attempted to bite the Ghost Rider on the neck, only to have his face disfigured by a burst of hellfire from the bite wounds.
Disgruntled and disappointed by his failures, Blackout became obsessed with obtaining revenge on the Ghost Rider. He eventually learned the Ghost Rider's true identity and murdered his sister, Barbara Ketch. A while later Blackout battled the Ghost Rider and Johnny Blaze and lost once again. He joined the organization known as the FIRM for a short period of time; their agenda was to capture the Ghost Rider. Still, Blackout's plans for revenge were his top priority, which led to him killing Daniel Ketch, but the Ghost Rider lived on through Johnny Blaze, while Blackout was buried alive.

Blackout would later reemerge, this time in the company of his great grandmother, Lilith, and the Lilin children. While fighting against the Midnight Sons, Blackout met his death after being stabbed through the heart by Blade. Recently, Blackout, alongside Doghead, Orb, and Death Ninja, has been working with Daniel Ketch. Blackout attempted to kill the Caretaker, only to be stopped by Daniel. A few moments later Daniel took the Caretaker's life himself.

Blackout would be called on again by Zadkiel to put together another group of individuals to kill Ghost Rider. The Deacon was working side-by-side with him, and they rounded out their team by recruiting Madcap, Big Wheel, Trull, the Mighty, Scarecrow and the new Vengeance. While Big Wheel and Trull kept Blaze and Ketch busy, Blackout stole the key to the first gateway to Heaven the Ghost Riders came upon. He next ventured to the second gateway where the Gun Nuns were. Blackout thought it would be easy pickings for him, but bullets dipped in holy water forced him to make a hasty retreat. Blackout met up with Master Pandemonium and Kid Blackheart to regroup before attempting to take over the world for Satan.

Nic Cage aint my first pick for GR but I'll go see this movie because it does seem to be a bit grittier than the first.

Ghost Rider was not a terrible movie. My only gripe was that Blackheart is supposed to look like this:

Other than that, I really enjoyed it. I have to say though that I like the white skull as opposed to the blackened skull. Eh, who cares, small potatoes.

i liked the other one a lot (i know I'm the only one) lol and people are gonna say well then you're not a real Ghos Rider fan..but i am. i dug what the other movie did.. western meets horror movie with some corny lines ...i liked it for what it was.

and the new one..i like the look too (i think the other look was better..miss the spikes) but this seems more like Ghost Rider Road to Damnation feel to it...but we'll see i guess
MidKnight35
MidKnight35 - 7/26/2011, 9:36 AM
@ Destroyer: Blackout has been battling GR since about 1990, I think he is half demon half human and can create a field that extinguishes all light around him. He is also sensitive to light and is kinda of like a vampire with sharpened teeth. I've seen him more recently working with the Hood before that I've barely heard of him.

I love when they said the the Ghost Riders clothes react to the fire by bubbling "like tar". What a cool visual idea.

I always liked Danny Ketch´s Ghost Rider look! It was bad ass but not over styled!:)

The burned Skull, gasoline smoke and the new model of the bike are great ideas but the whole melted/burned look doesnt really strike me!
Maybe it looks better on screen? Gotta wait the trailer!

Ghost Rider´s Hellcycle should be something like Ketch´s! Which looked like a [frick]ing tank!:)

SpiderFan35 - 7/26/2011, 10:22 AM
Hmm, well it should be better than the first one I hope. I'm going to see it regardless, I watch every CBM that comes out just to see what's up.
Nic Cage is not my first pick for GR either, but fortunately once the GR CGI takes over Nic Cage is out of the picture for a while.
@ Orphix: Very true. He has had some good times, but this is not one of them.

golden123 - 7/26/2011, 10:27 AM
As long as this isn't cheesy (fake looking muscles anyone?), has some better acting (besides Nic Cage), and doesn't have simplistic/predictable plot (I wonder how he defeats the next element) then the movie should be fine by me. Unless it has problems of it's own.

@MandaloreCayn: You don't need to be a proffesional of the field to critique something in that field.

yanno what i hated about the first movie was that blackheart and mephisto both just looked like pale humans, i wish they wouldve kept their comic appearance. my other big problem is that nic cage is too old to play a young johnny blaze, if nicholas cage wanted to be in a comic book movie so bad they should've found an older character role for him.
