More From Ryan Reynolds And Blake Lively On Green Lantern!

Reynolds talks about doing as many practical stunts for the movie as possible while Lively once again goes into detail about her lack of Green Lantern knowledge before taking on the role...

"Martin is not a fan of default CGI," Ryan Reynolds told Empire Magazine in their latest issue when asked about how many of the effects will be practical. "Martin uses the term 'a knife fight in a phone booth'. Like in Casino Royale - ugly and nasty and close quarters."

When asked to compare Green Lantern to other films of the same genre, he said: "The difference from other superhero movies is that this is both a space epic and earthbound. It leaves us open to so many possibilities."

Hi co-star Blake Lively who plays his love interest Carol Ferris in the upcoming movie was quick to admit that she knew nothing about any of the characters before getting the job, "I didn't know anything about Green Lantern. I went on Wikipedia - it was like a different language!" The actress then revealed that DC writer Geoff Johns gave her a crash course on the character, "It's been around since the '40s, there is a lot of story I've missed!"

So, she was using wikipedia at first when she had access to Geoff Johns? That would have been the first person i talked to about GL!

"It's been around since the '40s, there is a lot of story I've missed!"
Here's me doubting she knows anything about her character. At least she'll have a nice side-boob as Star Sapphire.

Guess she didnt realize that the 40's Green Lantern was Alan Scott and wasnt in space and Carol Ferris made her debut in 1959, but that doesnt come as a shock

Agree with @shazam Geoff Johns could have given her a crash course but what does she know, bet shes never cracked open a comic other than Archie

@MsKyle- Agreed. I really want to be excited for this film, but hearing from Ms. Lively, how Mark Strong had to correct his costume's mistakes, and how Reynolds needed to correct the oath on the final draft of the script makes me a little wary. I really hope its good though.

@upupandaway I didnt hear about Mark Strong having to correct costume mistakes, I could have overlooked that.

I cant believe someone can mess up the oath, my goodness ask Geoff Johns at least.

I hate being right too much

@MsKyle- At the end of the day, if she acts well, it doesn't really matter how much she knows. I'm really hoping that it's great. This is DC's first branching off from their top two guys, so I'm hoping for more goodness.

claybo4131 - 8/5/2010, 1:18 PM
@mskyle How did she get the role, GL is done by WB, Gossip Girl on the CW which is owned by WB, casted her to bring in the 12-22 year old female demographic that has never cracked open a GL comic, cast her cause shes "eye candy" (I dont think shes all that IMO)

well Kristen Stewart would have been a worse choice

@John- I know. I'm not saying it will suck, just that, so far, I don't feel too much to be excited about. Release some footage *wink wink* and I may be swayed. : ) I really like most of the cast and the director though.

@claybo...true. I just need this teen soap stars to stay on tv and not in CBMs. Its hard for me to take a movie seriously when it has one of them in it.

JoshWilding - 8/5/2010, 1:29 PM
I still dont like what I've so far seen of the costume, but I am now really looking forward to seeing this movie! I have to admit that I'm intrigued by the way that Reynolds describes how Campbell is handling the action scenes...sounds like Casino Royale x100 in space! One word: EPIC!!! :D

claybo4131 - 8/5/2010, 1:39 PM
@mskyle Believe it or not, lots of well known actors were on daytime soaps before they were big, and yes even the Mighty Thor was on an Aussie teen soap before he got the part of the God of Thunder. But he has grown up, Lively is too young for this part, way too young, If I walked into Lockheed Martin and she was the VP, I couldnt take Lockheed serious.

(For those who dont know, Ferris Aerospace in the comics is as equivalent to Lockheed Martin which is based in Ft Worth Texas)
selinakyle
selinakyle - 8/5/2010, 1:44 PM
I'm talking bout all these teenybopper shows on the CW and all. Funny enough i can deal with soap stars who cross over to prime time. I wish Jason (Steve Burton?) from General Hospital would do something non soap related. And i agree with you...way too young for the role.

JOSH @ MRJOSH Fist blocked ya! ; P

I'm beginning to think this will even be better than THE AVENGERS now, as AVENGERS is going in the wrong direction, much like X-MEN did!

GL sounds top notch, keeping true to the comics!

P.S. THOR & This will be awesome!

claybo4131
claybo4131 - 8/5/2010, 1:56 PM
@MsKyle Yeah daytime soaps I guess dont bother me gotta start somewhere. But her as Carol has so many similarites to Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane its not even funny. She doesnt Look like Carol, and why did she have to Wiki Green Lantern, she probably didnt know WHICH GL was going to be used in the film I bet

@LEEE you even questioned the Lively casting, I still am
GLFanboy
GLFanboy - 8/5/2010, 1:58 PM
From everything I've read and heard so far, all indicators are that Carl Ferris is still running Ferris Aircraft in this movie. She may not take over the company until later. Maybe not even till the next movie. Who knows?
And if someone equivelant to Blake Lively were running Lockheed Martin I would have to assume that she is in that position for a very good reason and it would probably be unwise to underestimate a woman in that position simply because of her perceived age.

Typically people go to their local comic shop to do research for a CBM. Not Blake, though! She uses Wikipedia. lol
claybo4131
claybo4131 - 8/5/2010, 2:42 PM
@JJ very true

@GL Lockheed Martin wouldnt let a 22 year old be VP regardless of their credentials

@Intersting I dont have any optimism with her in the role To me this is as equivalent to saying Jay Cutler is the top QB in the NFL
AlternateNo4
AlternateNo4 - 8/5/2010, 2:45 PM
well, i'm a high school english teacher and even though my colleagues hate me for this, i ALWAYS tell my students to start their research on wiki pages. it's the best way to get a one-or-two-page summary of big topics. once they've gotten through it, of course, they need to confirm or disprove every fact they found there—but as a general way to get up to speed on something, it's invaluable. dismissing or ignoring the value of wikis as research tools simply exposes people—and teachers—as being out of step with current technology.

she never says she ONLY used wikipedia... just that it was her first stop. i think that's perfect.
claybo4131
claybo4131 - 8/5/2010, 2:48 PM
@alternate Lots of teachers I know wont let you use Wikipedia at all, period, they want you to use other stuff, cause I know of a kid who copied and pasted from Wikipedia and got a big fat zero as a grade. I admit I use Wikipedia, but I wouldnt have back in the day when I was in school (When Internet was dial-up and we actually had to go to the Library)

For a HS English teacher, you sure do use capitalization pretty well lol
AlternateNo4
AlternateNo4 - 8/5/2010, 2:59 PM
@claybo—yeah, i figured i'd get called on the capitalization... but i'm not in a classroom right now haha. besides, at least i am very consistent in my non-use of capital letters.

it's true that i'm a bit unorthodox, but telling students NOT to use wiki media is as pointless as telling them not to use cliff's notes. they are going to do it anyway, and banning it just makes them hide it. if i tell them they can USE it, but need to CITE backup sources for each and every fact, it actually forces them to do MORE work in the end.

the bottom line is, i'd have given your friend a zero also! he didn't USE the site, he CUT & PASTED a research paper! i give those zeros out all the time :)

@ Altenate NO4: As a person two weeks away from entering college I must agree that wikipedia and wiki's in general can be very helpful. Hell I learned several missed years of the Transformers mythology through wiki's.

@claybo: Before ever truly saying whether an actor/actress truly has talent you'd have to look at the bulk of/full body of work because just watching one episode of a 30 minute tv show will NEVER give you a definitive representation of that actor/actresses's true range of Talent.

That's like saying James Franco would have sucked in Raimi's Spiderman(I personally didn't really like Raimi's vision of the Spider-Man mythos though) franchise just because he used to play on the Teen drama "Freaks and Geeks"(Cool show IMO) with Seth Rogen.

@IJ: You are correct and I agree 100% on what your saying.
claybo4131
claybo4131 - 8/5/2010, 3:05 PM
@alternate I didnt say the kid was a friend, it was something I read in the newspaper, guess I better not catching you saying AINT outside the classroom cause AINT AINT a word cause it AINT in the dictionary (Trust me im around athletes, try understanding them)

I never said wikipedia was bad for research, Hell I said I use it, Im just saying for students working on papers, use something else.
GLFanboy
GLFanboy - 8/5/2010, 3:08 PM
@Alternate Exactly! It says BEFORE getting the job, i.e. the audition process and she got the damn job so clearly it was enough. based on past interviews, her knowledge extends beyond Wiki.

@Claybo Really? You're gonna go after Alternate for a couple uncapped letters? At least the guy's posts are grammatically correct. It would take a team of English Lit PHD's weeks to diagram your sentences.

I use Wiki myself as a first stop when dealing with something that I don't know very much about, or when I'm questioning my memory about something. I don't see a problem with someone who honestly doesn't know the characters using Wiki to learn the basics. It's not always gospel, but Wiki is a good starting point, and can often point you towards sites that go into more depth on the subject matter at hand.

Plus, in Lively's case, at least she's wanting to learn about the character she's playing. Isn't that better than having no interest beyond drawing a check?
AlternateNo4
AlternateNo4 - 8/5/2010, 3:28 PM
@GLFanboy—thank you for your defense and for your compliment!

@claybo—no worries; i saw the joke. although i'd suggest you opt for a more complete dictionary; "ain't" has been in most good ones since the early eighties.

you see, a good teacher needs to be more than an expert, he needs to (1) understand the world in which his students live, and (2) recognize that knowledge is not static. there is standard (academic) english and there is common vernacular english, but neither is invalid. like all living languages, english is in a constant state of evolution. by the time we die, for example, it will be acceptable to omit the apostrophe from most contractions; texting is quickly ending people's patience for and dependency on such things. now, i wouldn't accept unpunctuated contractions in a paper any more than i would accept "ain't," "y'all," or a lack of capital letters. but outside the classroom... why not?

the key is making sure they KNOW standard english when they NEED it. now, as for YOU... well, if there were one pet peeve i'd like to see people correct, it's the substitution of "their" for "his or her" when the subject is singular. such as in, "Lockheed Martin wouldnt let a 22 year old be VP regardless of their credentials." but i know that battle may be a lost cause. :P
claybo4131
claybo4131 - 8/5/2010, 3:46 PM
If I spell Their and misspell it as thier it may be due to the fact I am typing fast and or not use punctuation, well that means I didnt run my spellcheck, that or maybe too lazy to run the spell check. Yes I think sometimes the internet lingo may effect the grammar in todays youth.

But when I do an editorial or write an article, I proofread to make sure my spelling, grammar and punctuation are correct

AlternateNo4
AlternateNo4 - 8/5/2010, 3:50 PM
@claybo—i wasn't knocking your spelling, man. the "his or her" grammar issue i called you on is one i hear all day, every day... even from fellow teachers.

besides, it's like you said: when it MATTERS, you do it right. or try to, at least lol :)
