Is An Animated Series For Guardians Of The Galaxy In The Works?

Could Marvel be planning an animated series for the Guardians as their film hits cinemas next year? Senior editor Stephen Wacker seems to hint at as much..

In the latest issue of the Marvel NOW! relaunched Guardians of the Galaxy series, senior editor Stephen Wacker teased in the fan-mail section of the book that discussions were happening at the Ultimate Spider-Man writing summit about a possible Guardians of the Galaxy animated series:

"Now, look, I can't officially confirm that we spent a LOT of time talking about the Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon but wouldn't that HYPOTHETICALLY… be amazing?"

"Seriously though, don't ask me about it because it totally didn't happen."

Currently in the Marvel Animated Universe there is Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel's Avengers Assemble both featured on Disney XD. Hulk: Agents of S.M.A.S.H will also be arriving August 11th this year.

As the first feature film for the Guardians looms on the horizon, premiering an animated show in the same year would go along way in familiarizing audiences with this rag-tag team of space-Avengers, and as one of Marvel Studios riskiest moves yet, it can use all the help it can get.

The Guardians first appeared in animation form during an episode of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and will soon be making an appearance in Ultimate Spider-Man.

How about a X-Men animated series or Fantastic Four?

More proof Marvel doesn't give 2 shits about them unless they have their film rights.

For me "Wolverine and the X-men" + "Avengers EMH" were the best comic animation series, since my favourites in the 90's "X-men TAS" + "Batman TAS" + "Spider-man TAS"

Getting my young niece into comic book characters atm, she doesn't like the new "Ultimate Spider-man" and "Avengers Assemble" animated series, yet loves the characters.

You have..sorry for you.
You have not..your not missing anything.
Unless you like crap.

EMH was better,had style & was like comics.
Don't like having the Marvel Cinematic Universe shoved down our throats.

@panther
You & others HAVE TO STOP using the "it's for kids" line of defense.
It's made by adults who think they know what kids want.
They got it wrong..kids want what everyone wants & that's quality cartoons based on comic book characters.

Why do superhero cartoons have to be "joked up " now?
It's not a matter of nostalgia,it's based on being either good or bad.
Silly antics is weak shit. Crack a few jokes is fine but slapstick comedy in an action genre makes most think comic books are goofy. Shameful.

@Levi

Why would MARVEL make an X-Men or FF cartoon? Thats like free advertising for Fox's movies.

Goody! Another cartoon by Marvel that is influenced by the films instead of the comics like they are supposed to be.

If it were up to you guys, Marvel would only be making X-Men and Spider-Man shows. There were plenty of those already. I'd much rather see them explore other properties, like GotG, Daredevil, or Defenders.

@Spidey

Spider-Man is a cash cow. Not to mention that Marvel wants to keep peace with Sony in the off chance Sony ever decides to sell Spider-Man back or at least let them team up for an Avengers movie...

With how popular the Marvel Studios films are, why haven't they been successful in the animation department? Where is the Thor, Iron Man, and Cap animated features? Animated shows or at least animated features from them.

I would not mind a GOTG animated series. I dont know anything about them and that would get me invested in them. This could give me a starting point so see if I would like them at least. I am down for anything animated that is not Spider-man, Batman, and X-men.

You are completely wrong. No one will complain because not one peson on the internet likes Ultimate Spider-Man, the new Avengers show, or Teen Titans Go. People loved Spectacular Spider-Man, Young Justice, and Avengers:EMH.

If it's like EMH, then HELL YES. If it's like USM, then HELL NO!

SN: I heard awhile back that Marvel was working on a new X-Men cartoon.

@neonkid: Exactly. I'm really glad some companies don't listen to certain vocal parts of their fanbases.

If it were up to some Nintendo fans, all they would make is Mario Galaxy and Metroid sequels.

If it were up to some Vocaloid fans, Hatsune Miku would be retired since she lost a internet poll.

If it were up to some Marvel fans, they would never push any other characters to the spotlight just rely on Hulk, Spiderman, and X-men to the end of time.

A series would do Guardians a lot of good, Cap and Thor should have solo series, and I'd like to see other properties (that don't have movies slated) be explored. A Nova series would be pretty sweet. Disney XD is a channel mostly tailored to Marvel, they need to fill it up with shows.

Awesome! The appearance on EMH was great, and it included Warlock! Ultimate Spider-Man is great for what it is, the Deadpool story was Hilarious! Plus they include a lot of great marvel characters, dr. Strange, spider pig, nova, iron fist...

And Loeb is the head of Marvel animation I'm pretty sure, so that explains everything. If you don't like the shows you probably don't like his writing in general!

And yea, I said spider pig!

The third episode of the new Avengers cartoon was god awful in my view. Same take over body crap we have seen a million times. It felt like a filler cartoon. I loved the first two though. The second season of the Ultimate Spiderman is also bad. It seems every episode is a cameo show case episode. The first season was better by far. As far as X-Men TAS, that show was garbage in my view. If Apocalypse, Bishop or Cable were not in the episode it bored me to tears. I don’t see what people saw in that cartoon. Spiderman TAS? Dude complained too much in every episode. At times I would say just shut up and fight. In my opinion the best Comic Book toons were Fantastic Four 1967, Batman TAS, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Batman Beyond, Young Justice and Wolverine and The X-Men. These cartoons were more mature though. I have just about every cartoon on DVD. I love cartoons. I’m up for a GOTG toon. It might be cool and I’ll give it a chance.

Seems to me the reason they make these animated shows and then cancel them is just to get kids to come to the movies.

I'm open to the idea of a Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon if it's written well.

I thought the new Avengers series was starting next week. Doesn't sound like I missed much. The first two were decent for what they were, but were far below the bar of greatness set by Avengers: EMH.
