James Gunn And Chris Pratt Talk GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY; New Plot Details Revealed

"If The Avengers are The Beatles, these guys are The Rolling Stones," director James Gunn says of the Guardians of the Galaxy, while Chris "Star-Lord" Pratt shares his thoughts on the tone of the movie. We also have some details on how exactly the team comes together...

"Maybe it's a risk, I dunno," Chris Pratt tells Empire in their latest issue when asked for his thoughts on where Guardians of the Galaxy fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "I think every movie Marvel's made has been a risk and they're risks that pay off really big. So I hope for the movie's sake, and my sake, that this one pays off. The story's really good and Marvel really knows what they're doing." As for the tone of the movie - which brings together a very unique set of characters - Pratt added: "It's not as broad as Galaxy Quest but it's not a straightforward space fantasy like Star Wars. I think it's the sort of the best of both of those films put together...and more!" The brief report then goes on to reveal that the team comes together when Peter Quill is thrown in jail and they then band together to escape and 'go after a treasure that they all want for different reasons.' According to director James Gunn, "Our characters are basically all villains to begin with. They don't believe they're individually good and they don't believe each other is good, and through the course of the movie they discover they're heroes. If The Avengers are The Beatles, these guys are The Rolling Stones."

Does anyone think that GotG will crossover with the Avengers in AoU or not until Avengers 3?

Give the movie a chance. I know it will be a surprise hit. Already 3 or more websites think Giardians of the Galaxy will be the #1 movie of 2014. I sure think it will and I believe if it continues to get high buzz and a Super Bowl sneak peek along with a 4,444 theater opening along with an IMAX 3-D expansion, it could earn $1.4 billion dollars.

On the subject of tone... I think the Marvel Movies that had the Near perfect(nothing is perfect) mix of comedy and drama were The Avengers and Iron Man. Those two movies had a perfect blend of tone and genre that the other ones have not been able to capture... YET!

Lord of the Rings had massive amounts of comedy... even during big fights. So I think we can move past it in comic adaptions that have comedy.

I'm REALLY looking forward to this one, if this is successful we will be seeing Marvel taking more risks with even more space characters.

Inhumans movie would be awesome for 2016 along with a Black Panther movie

MARVEL's fun-time formula should work best for Guardians and Antman.

Antman has Rudd and shrinking can't be taken too seriously, and Guardians is just bat shit crazy out the gate. I can see Guardians being awesome and fun to where the comedy actually fits.

I was hoping it was more of a cosmic film, but the description has me wondering what the platform is. Saying its not as broad as Quest or a straight space flick like Wars has me curious as to what that means.

At any rate, Rocket and Groot.

Comparing your film to the Rolling Stones is either insane confidence or insanely stupid. Making Guardians is beginning to look like a brilliant, logical step in explaining the powerful force that Thanos seeks, and at the same time opens the door to introducing other non-terrestrial heroes.

I think Marvel will ultimately imply that the Infinity Gems are the driving force behind the existence of superheroes, they create superior good to battle the superior evil of beings like Thanos. This could go on for years, and if they don't take a hiatus like Lucas did with Star Wars, it should be awesome!
