Michael Rooker Campaigns To Play Rocket Raccoon In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

The Walking Dead actor, who has worked with James Gunn previously on both Slither and Super, fancies a role in the director's upcoming Marvel CBM, and has his eye on a very distinctive character..

James Gunn is a director that seems to like working with familiar actors in his movies, so when it was announced that he would be helming Marvel's space adventure Guardians Of The Galaxy, many fans speculated on which of his previous cast members might join the production. Nathan Fillion was first, but dismissed any potential involvement due to his commitments to tv's Castle. But In an interview with Movieweb, Michael Rooker seems far more keen to join the team..as Rocket Raccoon! The site reckons it's pretty clear that the actor has already discussed taking a role in the movie with Gunn, and go on to ask if he's a fan of raccoons, to which he replies - ""I love raccoons. Raccoons are my friends!". Rooker is then asked if he thinks he would be right for the role, and gives the following detailed response..

"Oh, yeah. Most certainly. I know that James Gunn is doing it. He is directing it, and he is re-writing it. He is a very loyal director. He is a very loyal writer, when it comes to working with people that he knows and loves. He really appreciates the efforts that each actor puts into these roles. And I would be very honored and pleased to work with James Gunn again...Whether it will happen or not, I don't know. But he is a dynamite guy, and we have remained friends ever since we worked together on Slither.

I haven't done much research on it at all yet. Because I don't know what is going to happen. I'm really crazy busy with The Walking Dead right now. But you know what? Write this up. Tweet the [frick] out of it. If the fans want me as Rocket Raccoon, Marvel will listen to you guys, I think, sometimes...Perhaps I will be lucky and blessed enough to go in there, and go at it with Mr. Gunn again, who knows?"

I don't see why you all are trying to assign regional accents to a fictional genetically engineered animal from another planet. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

When I think of Michael Rooker, I think of racist rednecks. That's basically all he plays.

@marvel72- To be fair, even though the games and show portray Rocket Raccoon with a Cockney accent, he was named after the Beatles song "Rocky Raccoon." So he should actually have a Liverpool accent.

That's some inspired voice-casting imho. He's got my vote! If you haven't seen Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer(Rooker's first movie), check it out.

Just because a video game uses a British accent does not mean RR needs that in the film.

Rooker has a very cool voice & could do the job fine.

@lokibane sssh... keep it quiet, Marvel's going all out for Phase 2 so let the people decide. Think of this as a spiritual successor to The Avengers but set in the same universe. So it's quite like the equivalent of making a Justice League movie and releasing a sequel after a year or two; which unfortunately hasn't happened.

Bob Hoskins for Rocket Racoon! Whoever they pick, I hope he's at least British (or can pull off the accent).

I think this will bomb.
