More From Vin Diesel On GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: 'So Much One Can Do with `I am Groot.''

As Michael Rooker speaks on filming Guardians of the Galaxy versus The Walking Dead and getting snapped on set, unseen photos from the shoot surface and more from Vin Diesel about voicing Groot!

As of lately during his promo run for Riddick, Vin Diesel has been more candid about playing Groot in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Even though his performance may be limited to some motion capture and the treelike character's repetitive delivery of "I Am Groot," the Fast and the Furious star seems enthusiastic to lend his gravelly voice should his reps "allow" it to happen. "The idea of bringing that physicality to a CGI character always tantalized me," he told the Huffington Post today. "To strip away everything is insane. In this case, the voice plays heavily into it, too. I don't know what kind of dialogue will be in it, but even if it stayed true to character, there's so much one can do with `I am Groot.' It's the kind of challenge very few actors ever get."

Also, Michael Rooker was spotted looking mighty blue as Yondu on Guardians of the Galaxy's U.K. set just last week. And as additional photos from that shoot have been revealed, the Slither actor talked about being photographed on set and more about his space pirate role in the James Gunn-directed film at the Fan Expo Canada last weekend. “I'm an intergalactic guy and my skin is the color of my lovely eyes,” Rooker told attendees. “It's a great thing working on a film. On a T.V. set, you're working everyday and it's like long. T.V. people -- how do you do it? It's just brutal. [On 'Guardians of the Galaxy'] I come in, I hang out, I have coffee. I chill out and [say,] 'Hm, I think I'm going to work today,'” he joked, as the audience laughed. “We had our first experience with the paparazzi. They were like 400 yards away and they're like these little tiny creatures. And I was like ehh” Rooker said with a dismissive gesture. “Of course, the next day you look and they got me [in full costume]. I mean their lens must be 4 feet long.”

Lastly, James Gunn responded to a question of mine on his Formspring last week, supporting producer Kevin Feige's comments that we'll get "more than one turn-around and smirk" from Thanos in addition to finally hearing the mad Titan speak in Guardians of the Galaxy! What do you think?

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios, is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, and the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Academy Award® winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is slated for August 1, 2014!

Awesome! can't wait for this flick!

Even though I've never read Guardians, I'm jacked for this movie, Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista are gonna make it incredible.

Couldn't agree more.

Great job as always, @Freshman.

And yes, I do hope that we see more of Yondu in this film and/or in future MCU films. An actor like Rooker shouldn't be let to waste.

Also, I'm glad to see that Diesel is doing more than leading his voice for Groot, even though it seems to be limited.

And to hear that we'll hear the Mad Titan speak in this film comes to me as no surprise, but it sure as hell gets me excited, nonetheless! :)

THE IRON GIANT voicing GROOT is possibly the best thing ever. Marvel casting always on point.

I'm happy with Vin as Groot, but I would have crapped a brick if they even thought about casting a guy like him as Vision.

I don't know what people were thinking when they were pushing for that.

Have they ever read anything with The Vision in it? What exactly screamed "short bald juice-head"?

Made even less sense than Coulson as The Vision.

I'm hoping for this to be as amazing and game changing as I had hoped John Carter to be. Unfortunately Carter let me down for the most part. James Gunn has this though.

A good director and actor can get a lot out of a character that barely speaks or speaks very little. Look at Vin Diesel's other character the Iron Giant a character with so much heart and likeability but said maybe 15-20 words throughout the movie. You can also look at Wall-e the only things he said were Wall-e and Eva yet another character with so much personality and heart all through the visual performance and tone of the voice.

This is just a theory, but what if Vin isn't playing Groot? Maybe he's actually playing Thanos. Think about it. His voice would be perfect for the Mad Titan. And why do they need to mo-cap him as Groot, we've al already seen Groot in motion. He should move like a tree in the wind, not like a human. Maybe Marvel is just trying to surprise us. Vin just seems to big for this role...I don't know, just a theory.

Man, I hope that they didn't/don't recast Damion Poitier. It would really suck if they just had to use him for that one scene and drop him. Having a role such as Thanos is one helluva role to have. Plus, just look at the guy. He's got the looks and physicality for the Mad Titan.

@Joeyhavoc - I've been thinking the same thing, except not for Thanos. I keep thinking that they have something else for Diesell that they could use more of him. It could be Thanos (although I think they should still keep Poitier as Thanos), or Vision (in this case, I wouldn't mind seeing him as Viz). Either way, Diesel is too big a star for Marvel to just give him the role as Groot ( which I have no doubt hell give it his best).

Mr. Rooker is a actually a very humble man.
My wife and I got to meet him at Phoenix Con this year. He very appreciative to the fans and was very sincere. We got a great picture and he loved my comment "You were the bomb in Tombstone, Yo"

Calling it now, Diesel is playing Thanos. His voice is perfect for it, he's got the physicality down, they were talking about him being a major character in phase 3.

Groot is just a smokescreen. He may be doing Groot as well, I don't know, but I'm 99% sure he's Thanos.

Im hoping Vin is playing Thanos to. It makes so much sense. Him being Groot is fine but him as Thanos makes SO MUCH MORE MOVIE SENSE.

I think the Collector may be a red herring. We've heard so much about Thanos's accomplises and daughters but nothing about how the Collector is involved in this. I think Benicio Del Toro may very well be Thanos.

I feel like it's a ruse and Diesel is actually playing Thanos. He's got the build and the voice for it. I just don't believe they're hiring him to say 3 words with different inflections.
