Some Minorly New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Details Revealed From Comic-Con Footage

The footage still hasn't leaked unfortunately, but an overlooked in-depth description of the Guardians of the Galaxy footage shown at Comic-Con has brought some new details to light. Check it out!

Marvel Studios returned to Hall H at San Diego Comic Con two weekends ago and once again brought the house down with sneak peeks at the upcoming Thor and Captain America sequels. But, beyond Tom Hiddleston's surprise appearance & Joss Whedon's The Avengers: Age of Ultron title reveal, the highlight of Marvel Studios' panel came about when footage from the James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy film was presented after only 13 days of filming. There were quite a few descriptions floating around, but SHH user Mr. Dent has brought Ain't It Cool News' rundown to my attention; revealing a few minor details that were previously unmentioned.

"We arrested these five on Xandar," Rhomann Dey (John C Reilly) told his Nova Corps superior, played by Peter Serafinowicz. "Check out the rap sheets. Drax aka The Destroyer. He's killed scores of Ronan [the Accuser]'s lieutenants in his search for vengeance." We see Drax standing, cuffed, in some kind of line-up room/observational thing... except super sci-fi'd with electric windows and all that jazz.

Rhomann Dey continued, "Gamora, Thanos' adopted daughter... her own personal death machine." And we see a green-skinned Zoe Saldana standing like she doesn't give a [frick]. Then it cuts to a little furry guy standing on a box in the observation room and the audience went apeshit. I couldn't hear what John C. Reilly was saying, but he did say "Rocket Raccoon" and "over 50 charges of vehicular theft and escape from lockup." Rocket looks annoyed and kind of exhales loudly, and spits on the ground.

Then it cuts to a tall figure standing in the observation room. So tall in fact that we don't see his head. Looks like someone just planted a tree in the room... until it moves, ducking down to look through the window so we see his face. "Groot." Reilly: "houseplant/muscle."

Now it's back to Pratt. "Peter Jason Quill. He's also known as Star-Lord." Deputy, "Who calls him that?" "Himself, mostly. "He's wanted for minor theft, avoiding prosecution, fraud..." As Reilly is reading off the charges, Pratt is doing that turn-the-crank-jack-in-the-box middle finger thing, then acting all innocent. "I'm sorry! I didn't know how this machine worked!" The way Pratt sold that moment killed the audience. So funny.

The rest of the footage was more montage style, beginning with Pratt being led through alien jail. He sees a big blue brute guy (mostly make-up and practically executed) picks up a pair of headphones. Blue Swede's Hooked On A Feelin' can be heard coming from them. "Hey, hey, hey! That's mine!" The alien prisoner defiantly puts them on his head. Quill breaks free, hands still cuffed, and chases after him. "Come here, you big blue bastard! Take that off your head right now!" And he tackles the big guy.

Hooked On A Feelin' plays throughout the rest, giving a driving, light and fun beat through the rest of the footage. There's a knife going to a sleeping Gamora's throat, her eyes snapping open, Drax punching some poor thing into oblivion and, my favorite, a grimacing Rocket Raccoon double fisting uzis and spraying lead in arcs around him. Bunch of action beats and then back to John C. Reilly. "They call themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy." His deputy: "What a bunch of a-holes."

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios, is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, and the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Academy Award® winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is slated for August 1, 2014!

Hooked on a Feelin' sets the tone of the film. This is unlike any Marvel film. It's a James Gunn film first.

Footage was [frick]ing amazing. People who doubted Bautista or Pratt or Zoe, will eat their words next year.

And MP79, the footage looks GREAT. The CHI and effects looked nearly finished. Can't waait for the final product.

@MarvelPsycho they actually only shot for 13 days and just assembled what they got. Groot and Rocket's CGI wasn't fully polished (I would say like 65-70%).

It was actually the version by Blue Swede??? Oh wow! :) Got to love Björn Skifs, Swedish singer/actor/comedian and I gave to say: Hawkeye lookalike. :) He must be Renners old lost brother or something.

Did you get to see Reilly or Serafinowicz in costume?

@Morrow They were in their Nova Corps uniforms (the low-ranking one that they showed at the exhibit floor at SDCC) w/o the helmets.

So I'd assume they're both Millennians presiding over the prison. As opposed to Reilly being a Centurion like Dey was at first in the comics.

The one thing AICN didn't mention is Pratt being arrested by Djimon Hounsou's character after trying to steal something a la Raiders of the Lost Ark and the whole "Who is Star-Lord" exchange between the two. Funny (and meta) stuff.

Glenn Close is Nova Prime. Reilly will ascend to Centurion in this movie.

@DCMF Ahhh, okay!

This is probably my most anticipated blockbuster for 2014 (which is pretty stacked with DoFP, Winter Soldier, Godzilla, TASM2, Fast & Furious 7, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jupiter Ascending, Transcendence, How to Train Your Dragon 2, 22 Jump Street, Maleficent)

@DCMF, I'm the same. Always preferred cosmic stuff to the earth based stories. As far as the humour in this film goes, I hope Gunn has seen a few episodes of Red Dwarf, 'cause that show is just GotG with different characters that are all British.

@aRandomSinisterClone, that's how they'd say it in the comics. It's happened in Star Wars and Star Trek, why not in GotG?
