Legion Director Scott Stewart Talks Priest

Legion Director Scott Stewart Talks Priest

With Legion opening at the box office this past weekend at number two (behind Avatar, of course), director Scott Stewart started talking about his upcoming movie, Priest.

Scott Stewart is the director of Legion, starring Paul Bettany. He is also the director of the upcoming Priest, also starring Paul Bettany. Why does Stewart seem to like Bettany so much?

“He is just so soulful. He has an amazing face. He and I both love Clint Eastwood movies, we love Steve McQueen.”

OK. I’ll give them that! A love of Steve McQueen would make a best friend of mine as well! But apart from soulful faces, Stewart also gave us a look into the soul of the movie he and Bettany are current finishing up.

“It takes place a generation after the war, a hundreds-year war between man and vampire, and the characters of the priests are like Jedi Knights that helped turn the tide. My focus is how now the vampire is vanquished, and society has moved on from you. You're not the hero anymore, and people look at you like a freak. They won't talk to you. And so we look at what happens after that if you're called into service again. You end up questioning why you made those sacrifices to begin with.”

The full interview can be seen over at the Heat Vision blog, but there’s one more thing to take from this interview that is definitely worth knowing for this upcoming western/vampire movie.

“I didn't feel like I had a lot to add to the vampire lore when I first read "Priest." I really liked the script, but one thing I didn't want to do was a sexy vampire movie. "True Blood" is doing that. And my vampires aren't going to sparkle in the daylight. What I ended up making instead is a movie about war and the aftermath of war and the sacrifices we go through.”

Watched Legion and I'm a bit disappointed. Personally I think it dragged and its predictable and has nothing new to show.

i saw Legion and while it was entertaining. It was pretty bad. The dialogue was complete one-liner fest. And story could have been a lot better

@Rormachine

I read some parts of reviews, but I didn't wanna waste my time with reading an entire review that was bashing a movie. So, I saw "The Book of Eli" instead. That movie was awesome!

First saw Bettany in the movie "Knight's Tale" with Heath Ledger I think hes funny. Too bad I missed "Da Vinci's Code". I still think he would make an awesome "Riddler".

As I said in my earlier post, there is nothing new the movie could offer that may have kept me interested. This is not because I'm Catholic or Christian but I believe you can already get an Idea from the trailer itself. Hate to be the one to shade some SPOILERS but I hope you could forgive me if I tell you that this movie obviously got a lot of inspirations from another movie franchise.
