Back in July, The BBC announced that Jodie Whittaker (Attack the Block, Broadchurch) would be taking over from Peter Capaldi as our first female Doctor, and now they've debuted our first official look at the actress as she'll appear in the role.

Whittaker is shown sporting her new Time Lord duds, standing in front of The Doctor's iconic time machine, The TARDIS.

We'll see Whittaker make her first appearance as the Doctor on this year’s special Christmas episode of Doctor Who, which will be broadcast by BBC America.

Hmm i was very curious about what costume they were gonna put her in. I imagine it wasn't an easy thing to decide.

@TheManWithoutFear - it'll be odd seeing her in Twelfth's outfit at the end of Christmas

I'm kind of in love with it.
Very hippie, which fits the Doctor perfectly.
Really liking the new TARDIS exterior too, it's like a synthesis of the Moffat era and Davies era boxes.

The Tardis is a little different too. Interesting. For me Matt Smith is my favorite and Peter didn't appeal to me enough, hope she can bring a lot to the table, I don't think I've seen her in anything.

@valeriesghost - I agree on all counts. Mr. Capaldi kind of lost us as audience members. Matt Smith was a tough act to follow! I'm curiously optimistic to see a actress' take on the role - hoping she will crush it.

@suprdave71 - I'll disagree on the Capaldi front (he's my personal favourite Doctor) but I too am also unbelieveably excited for Whittaker and the new era.

@valeriesghost - been watching a lot of Dr who super cuts on YouTube and then this comes out! Haven't watched since smith left but I guess this is enough for me to give it a go. Be interesting to see the very first female doctor if for nothing else but the historical value

I also really like the white and blue colour aesthetic they're going with, which contrasts nicely with Capaldi's black and red.

After her, I would like to see Forest Whitaker as Doctor Who. ;)
