Screen Rant have come across a video interview with director José Padilha, where the director in charge of the planned reboot reveals that Michael Fassbender, who was recently praised for his take on Magneto in X-Men: First Class, is his top choice for the role of RoboCop! You can check out that interview by clicking HERE, but it is in Portuguese!

The script for the movie is said to be in it's final stages of completion, but will Fassbender even have time to play law enforcement officer, Alex J. Murphy? More to the point, will he even want to? Well, it'll be a while before we find out, but be sure to share your thoughts on this news in the usual place!

Fassbender would be an awesome choice. I'd prefer Michael C. Hall, but Fassbender is great.

They should leave robocop alone and if tho do bring it back it needs a different look, like a massive overhaul. Maybe even a different name too.

Great choice. I think Michael Fassbender has a certain look that allows him to fit many characters, i'm not surprised he's being considered....plus great acting always helps!

Next James Bond!!!!!

if this is going to be remade, then youre going to have to get the right actors. if not the the whole movie will be a joke. Michael Fassbender is an amazing actor who could definatly pull off the role. and i agree that Patrick Wilson would be a great choice. i really like the concept of this movie, and done in a modern setting it could be really great. but if done low budget and with a bunch a "B" actors it would be awful.

I think they need a character that has "big" personality (a la Bruce Willis etc) so that when he's dehumanised, it's a HUGE difference, and you'll really feel for him.

I say Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

HELL YA! But he'd had to bulk up big time! Even tho I'm a huge fan of the Fass after XFC I've gotta admit Patrick Wilson is a better choice...

What's with all these remakes of "old" Sci-Fi popcorn flicks that don't need to be remade? Total Recall, RoboCop, what's next? Blade Runner?

Lazy f-kin hollywood writers.

This is what studios who don't own the property rights to comic book characters do . Notice every film they've chosen to re-make has a 'heroic' lead . Unless producers create their own characters , they're stuck re-hashing old ideas.

Hell yeah. Fassbender is an awesome actor and iwould totallly love to see him rock this role. He's just enough of a rising star to not overshadow the role too.

I think Fassbender is kind of too good for it. They should get someone that they can sign up for a three picture deal that doesn't have the potential to do some real solid acting in their future.

@njferns...Why would anyone have to bulk up to play RoboCop? Have you seen Peter Weller in the first movie? He's scrawny. In fact, everytime they've cast a RoboCop, it's been a scrawny actor, so that he can move better in the suit. Admittedly, that may not be so much of a problem these days with CGI and all. Depending on their design and budget, they'd probably just pull and Iron Man and have him wear sections of the armour over a green screen/motion capture suit to be filled in later.

Still, either way...The idea that any actor needs to 'bulk up' to play the robot is absurd.

Oh, and if he was younger, Jim Caviezal(Sp?) would have been a great RoboCop.

@revlovR. I think the did send it to Detroit thats why Holkywood has zero ideas. I am starting to think all the great stories have been told already so they all gave up and decided to to to the recycling plant of scripts

RoboCop should not be remade, just as there's should not have been a RoboCop 2 or 3. I'd like to see Fassbender in better stuff.

The first film is a classic and worked as a satire of the 80's. This is an attempt to cash in on the success of Iron Man and Transformers.

Real Steel will likely bomb and kill this remake anyway.

pfffttt...... reboots can be good ,for example if you would add 3D to certain allready good movies like jurassic park, king kong, or close encounters for example...... but these days hollywood runs short of ideas and money..... and too make a quick dollar/euro/yen they start rebooting proven concepts...... and personally.... a reboot of robo-cop......maybe it will turn out to be a hell of a great movie, but I'm not looking forward too it!
