According to Deadline, Joel Kinnaman has been offered to play RoboCop in the upcoming film. Kinnaman is currently playing detective 'Stephen Holder' in AMC's The Killing.

I’m told that MGM is making an offer to Joel Kinnaman to play the title role in its Robocop remake. The film’s being directed by Jose Padilha, helmer of two action packed installments of Elite Squad.

After watching the first season of The Killing, I think I can safely say this guy is really good actor. Not only is he the best part of the show in my opinion, but his performance with each episode is just getting better and better. I could definitely see him as RoboCop. What do you think?

Interesting choice. At least it isn't Russell Crowe playing him.

Not a bad choice.

I've never really seen him act. I don't think it will be too hard especially since he's going to be behind a mask most of the time.

No. This guy's face sucks.

Michael Fassbender or Christian Bale.

Fassbender would have been an awesome choice. From what I read on another article he was cool with wanting to portray Murphy.

Yep! Going with the young unknown...so now we know two things: small budget and a story around a young recruit instead of a grown man. The supporting cast now has to be perfect or else nobody's gonna see it in theaters.
Just sayin'...

@TheBurn, I disagree.Look at John Carter.That's a $250M film about an Army captain.And it stars a relative unknown/up and comer, Taylor Kitsch.And he's younger than Kinnaman.

Look at Battleship.Another movie starring Taylor Kitsch that has a $200M budget.

Avatar was a $230M film starring a relative unknown Sam Worthington and he was also younger than Kinnaman when he got the role.

The age of an actor and how known or unknown he is doesn't really reflect on the budget of the film.I'm also not sure what your definition of a "grown man" is, but the guy is almost 33.I think that qualifies as a grown man and not a young recruit.

fff...ASSbender is making me wanna touch myself... down there. Glad to know the majority of you guys feel the same way about him, too. But, unfortunately fellas, he got owned by a girl in his last film. Apparently; Gina Carrano is more man than he. Therefore, Gina gets my vote. And my wiggly tongue.

Interesting choice.

Patrick Wilson would have been my pick thou. Fass would have been cool too.

Ps. Robocop belongs to Detroit.

This and "The Crow" reboot just need to not happen. Period. I have very little faith in either one of them.

Great choice! This guy is way better than Russel Crowe ?! He is young enough and a solid actor.

@Tazmaniak: you make a valid point. I stand corrected. I just watched the clip posted by Gunsmith. I admit not knowing the guy and I'm glad to see he doesn't look that young. The photo was misleading. I still think it's a gamble and the concept art we've seen months ago makes me believe it'll be a CGI Robocop doin' flips and stuff. It's gonna be different to say the least! Not bad... but different.

I haven't heard of this guy before. Sometimes going with an unknown is a good idea for a reboot.

Going by his looks, he seems like an intense actor.

I don't think that's the kind of actor that would make a good Alex Murphy/Robocop though.

ALL THAT MATTERS IS THE ACTOR..IF HE CAN ACT IT WELL THEY CAN TWEEK THE VOICE AND ADD THE MASS LATER, IS HE THE RIGHT GUY I DUNNO...WE'LL SEE I GUESS..

I PERSONALLY IN TRUTH DON'T WANT THEM TO REBOOT IT, IF YOU HAVE TO DO A ROBOCOP, DO A ROBOCOP TYPE BUT DON'T TRY TO RETELL SOMETHING THAT ALOT OF FANS JUST KNOW, SOME PEOPLE EXPECT STUFF AND SOME WILL RIP YOU A NEW ONE IF IT'S DONE WRONG...WHO KNOWS, IT MIGHT GO WELL LIKE PLANET OF THE APES DID BUT WHO KNOWS?, THERES ONLY ONE "ROBOCOP" FOR ME THOUGH..THE GUY THAT MADE IT COOL...

All these reboots are making my head spin. And I can feel the pea soup surfacing.

Most Wanted Reboots List:
1. Orca
2. They Live
3. Overboard

Just cast Shia in everything and it'll be ok.
