In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Villian could have been an original villian without tarnishing Khan of previous movies. Nothing more.

@yingyangpalms - But this isn't a rehash of Wrath of Khan, even though Abrams shoved as many nods to it as possible, it's a reboot of Space Seed.

Dumbest movie of the summer by a mile.

So they get Khan to make weapons for them when he's not even a scientist or an engineer, regardless they have 72 of his people in cryogenic sleep as leverage. The idiots don't put 2+2 together when he makes 72 torpedoes.. YES 72. Even worse they don't at some point realize that the 72 people they had as leverage are missing and simply wonder hmmmm 72 torpedoes??? Genius!

And how did they acquire Khan when he left Earth with his people in cryogenic sleep 200 years before the timeline got changed. Original series Enterprise only discovered him because they were on a 5 year mission into deep space. In this movie they just decide he's hanging around waiting to be put to use. They don't begin exploring deep space until the end of the stupid movie.

Original Khan was not X-men level strength and abilities, Kirk beat him up with an iron bar in the original series. This Khan seems to like being a punching bag just to show he can't be hurt. Give him a spandex costume and underpants for crissake.

Action movie nonsense for the brainless.

@Ceejay Watch the movie again they do explain that stuff. Only Section 31 and the Admiral knew and the plan was to use the torpedoes with his people in it as leverage. Also since what happened with Nero, Section 31 was secretly venturing out into deeper space. Also in TOS Khan episode they called them Supermen and they had Superior Strength and Intelligence.

@ Ceejay

It's explained in the film, the encounter with Nero, forced Starfleet to look out into the Galaxy to help them acquire new technologies & that's when they "found" Khan.

@ Ceejay

Also if you want something to complain about, complain about how JJ doesn't know what Section 31 is.

In the original timeline, Section 31 is a secret covert organization, that is seperate from Starfleet. They had ZERO military authority in Starfleet, nor did they help in the creation of "advanced torpedos".

But again, why does this surprise anyone, JJ still think Scotty invented Warp Drive.

It's funny how a guy who is directing a Star Trek movie, knows shit about Star Trek.

@AustinFan4Life JJ ruined Star Trek. I gave him a free pass with the first one. I enjoyed it for what it was and wanted to see what he was going to do. Well, he took big a giant dump on Star Trek with Into Darkness. [frick] JJ Abrams. He should not have anything to do with Star Trek. He should be ass raped by a gang of klingons with no lube. That's just my opinion though :)

@AustinFan4Life As a result of Nero, Section 31 started to take a more active role, they deal with threats to Earth's and the Federation's security in the regular time line and this one and will pretty much do anything. In the original timeline they even tried to commit genocide with a virus so creating advanced torpedoes is not a stretch.

But that still make zero sense, for an organization that historically has had ZERO military authority & acted as a separate organization from Starfleet itself, that only acted covertly, in the best interest of Starfleet. In fact Starfleet doesn't even recognize it as even being a part of Starfleet & therefore cannot even court martial anyone from Section 31, if they violate Starfleet regulations.

@AustinFan4Life I don't see how that conflicts at all. Plus there have been Starfleet officers in Section 31 the Admiral from Insurrection was one of them. And to be honest there has never been much in the series and movies on Section 31 to state what their history is or how much authority they have.

Dmon - 7/10/2013, 5:27 PM
My only complaint about this movie was Khan was a white guy that looked nothing like Khan from the series they could have at least said Section 31 surgically altered his face so no Earth Historians knew who he was.

You must've not watched much of DS9, they specifically state that their "mission statement" is to act in the best interest of Starfleet. They also explained in several episode that they are not actually a part of Starfleet. Also Admiral Dougherty was acting as an agent of Section 31 in Insurrection, much in the same way Julian Bashir was in several episodes of DS9. So there is actual canon on who & what Section 31 actually was. They weren't a weapons manufacturer like they were said to be in Into Darkness

Dmon - 7/10/2013, 5:52 PM
@AustinFan4Life I did watch DS9 in a lot of ways it is my favorite series. 31 was very secretive on that show. The DS9 crew was never sure how far section 31's reach extended also they did create a biological weapon. The virus used on the Founders.
Kirk will always be my favorite Captain but struggle all the time on who I like more Sisko or Post Locutus Picard for second place.
AustinFan4Life
AustinFan4Life - 7/10/2013, 5:58 PM
@ Dmon

Secretive yes, but if you remember when Bashir questioned their actual place in Starfleet, they were specific in saying that they acted outside of Starfleet & weren't an actual part of Starfleet's chain of command.

Also I'm a Picard guy, while I love Kirk, at least I know that if I wore a red shirt under Picard, I wouldn't die lmao

Here's a fun fact, did you know that Khan(Roberto Montalban), was technically a red shirt.....I wonder if his death still counts as a red shirt death under Kirk's command? lol

@AustinFan4Life Yeah I find that most Trek fans that dislike the New Trek movies are TNG fans. This is nothing new though back in the 90's TNG fans treated TOS fans not very well. Don't get me wrong though I love TNG watched it from the first day the pilot aired but I hate the first season and most of the second. I got Patrick Stewart's autograph on a pic of him as Captain Picard, I also have one of Marina Sirtis. But man if I ever met William Shatner and got his it would be the best day ever.

I like all Trek. Own the remastered versions of TOS on DVD, but I grew up watching TNG, so naturally it's my fav lol....but I own the first 3 seasons on blu ray, plan on picking up season 4 once it's released.

Also I'm surprised the series wasn't cancelled after season 2, other than a few standout episodes, it blew chunks lol

@AustinFan4Life Did you know that a term in TV lingo, that the opposite of "Jumping the Shark" is called "Riker's Beard". It's when a show goes from unspectacular/boring/outlandish to completely awesome. LOL
