Last month, Devin Faraci from
Badass Digest got Trekkies all over the globe and in outer space super-excited when he reported that
Star Trek 3 director Roberto Orci was planning to include William Shatner, the original
James Tiberius Kirk. Then Shatner confirmed that talks have taken place and earlier this evening he tweeted:
Shatner hasn't appeared in a
Star Trek film since 2002's
Star Trek: Generations. That's because the baton passed onto
Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his crew. And him being killed off probably also didn't help. Shatner's
Star Trek 3 role is said to be pivotal to the film and he will share screen time with Leonard Nimoy as well as the new Kirk and Spock, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. Set phasers to fan-service.
Update: Mr. Shatner is denying that the "I'm back" tweet had anything to do with
Star Trek 3. The confusion stems from him wanting to announce that he is back in the Los Angeles area. With the current rumor getting some new life today you can understand why many journalists jumped the gun on his tweet. By the way, I hope while he is in L.A. he gets a great deal on a hotel room. I know of a site that could help him with that, but the name keeps slipping my mind.
