In a press release issued earlier today from StarWars.com, it was announced that Electronic Arts will create multiple Star Wars video games for the next few years spanning across all platforms, including PC and mobile tablets. According to the below press release, EA's owned studios such as DICE, BioWare (who are no strangers to the franchise) and Visceral will develop the games. Casual games for the franchise will be developed by Disney. Read below for the full details. Sound off below with your thoughts on this agreement!

Today it was announced that Lucasfilm Ltd. and Disney Interactive are entering into a multi-year, multi-title exclusive licensing agreement with Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) for the creation of new high quality Star Wars games spanning multiple genres for console, PC, mobile, and tablets.

Industry leaders and creators of best-in-class blockbuster games, the development and publishing teams at EA will collaborate with the creative teams at Lucasfilm to provide audiences with all-new gaming experiences set in the ever-expanding Star Wars galaxy. As part of the agreement, EA studio teams DICE (Battlefield series) and Visceral (Dead Space series) will join BioWare (Mass Effect series, Star Wars: The Old Republic) in the development of new Star Wars games.

"Our number one objective was to find a developer who could consistently deliver our fans great Star Wars games for years to come," said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. "When we looked at the talent of the teams that EA was committing to our games and the quality of their vision for Star Wars, the choice was clear."

While EA studios will develop for the core Star Wars gaming audience, Disney Interactive will focus on delivering new Star Wars games for casual audiences on mobile, social, tablet, and online gaming platforms.

"This agreement demonstrates our commitment to creating quality game experiences that drive the popularity of the Star Wars franchise for years to come," said John Pleasants, co-president of Disney Interactive. "Collaborating with one of the world's premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of new Star Wars titles to fans around the world."

"Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe," said EA Labels President Frank Gibeau. "Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay."

More information, including titles in development, will be announced in the coming months. Continue to check StarWars.com for updates on the future of Star Wars gaming.

They are the AT&T of game companies.

when EA get their claws into something you might aswell forget it, you'll either get a half completed game, launch day/day 1 downloadable content, an emphasis on purchasing useless dlc, forced multiplayer, a shortened single player etc

@maryboo agree about Sim City, however Mass effect was an exception and actually a good game, the writers cough cough Casey Mother[frick]ing Hudson ruined the game with that BS ending they pulled, for allegedly artistic purposes, I'll never forgive for that bull shit

Bioware, the same ones that gave us Mass Effect and Knight of the Old Republic, and DICE, the ones that gave us Battlefield. I have no problem with this at all, I'm actually excited.

I hate EA as a company, but the way I see it this could work.

Dice - Battlefront, Republic Commando, Jedi Knight.

Visceral - Death Troopers, The Force Unleashed

Bioware - KOTOR

I'm not a huge fan of EA, but I'm happy as long as we get a worthy KOTOR 3 or something like that.

EA?

They make games that kids find amazing. If they are making a kids Star Wars game then that's fine, but we want a Star Wars game for ALL ages. THAT IS NOT HARD! If they can actually make a good Star Wars game, then I change my opinion on the immediately.

Their only games SLIGHTLY playable (that I've played) are Medal of Honor, SimCity, and NHL series.

My cousin used to work for EA in Cali. Thats why she left because their creativity was so low & any time a new idea was presented they would brush it off.

EA also have a horrendous reputation for treating staff very poorly (even for the games industry). Plus I'm still very butthurt at what they did to Bioware - Infinity Engime games FTW! :)

wonder if EA will rush the developers to make these games, wtf am I talking about of course they will.

@ATrueHero1987 take a look at what EA have done to Dragon Age 2(Bioware), Dead Space 3(Visceral games) Crysis 2 and 3(Crytek) and the recent batch of Need for speed games, all either rushed, half completed, focused on day 1 dlc, carbon copies of a previous entry all done for coporate greed

I really don't get why Disney killed off the video game side of Lucas when it could have been a great platform for them for not only the Star Wars games but for Disney and Marvel.

Not the strategy I would have taken if I had acquired such an asset.
Ocelot
Ocelot - 5/6/2013, 3:18 PM
@marvel72 though I absolutely detest EA, that original joke BS of an ending in Mass Effect 3 was the fault of the Bioware Writers in particular Casey [frick]ing Hudson, cant attribute the blame to EA in that situation. However stuff that was orginally supposed to be in the game were either removed of scrapped early for DLC purposes, sanctioned by EA of course

If EA itslef do those games then, we're [frick]ed, if they pass some projects to some internal teams (dice e.g.) we a have a new hope ;)

Ok we have something there.

Even though i hate EA from their money grubbing and stuff i will say that if anyone is going to make Star Wars and make them quick it will be EA. They know the fans want them and they will get the ball rolling quickly.
