A little under 3,000 of you voted when we asked how you feel about Disney's acquisition of LucasFilm and the announcement that we should expect to see a seventh Star Wars instalment up on the big screen by 2015, and the response was...well, you'll have to hit the jump to find out!

When Disney bought Marvel for $4 billion back in 2009, they pretty much left the company alone to carry on with what they'd successfully been doing for many years before the purchase. Yes, there were a few changes here and there, but nothing too major. That's not the case with LucasFilm. Disney are planning on ushering in a whole new era of Star Wars films with a new trilogy (something that fans never thought they would see) and countless other types of merchandise, TV shows and video games too. Thought it was weird seeing The Avengers toys in the Disney Store? Just wait until it's Star Wars' turn! While this is by no means a bad thing, although some older fans definitely didn't seem to happy with the news when it was announced earlier this week. However, as you can clearly see from the results below, the majority couldn't be happier that we're going to be getting a while new trilogy of films which will once again take us to a galaxy far, far away....

I'm still mixed about it too but what really bothers me is that if Disney can do this then why not buy the rest of Marvel's properties? :(

Leave it alone. The Star Wars legacy has already been destroyed by the last three. Leave it alone.

I'm glad to see so much excitement about the news.
I was expecting the normal bitching and moaning from everyone.
Well not everyone, but you know what I mean.

Great news, and while it would be sweet to get the old gang together, i.e.; Mark, Carrie, and Harrison, it seems Disney's gonna do it's own thing. After TRON2 and The Avengers, though, Disney has brownie points with me...

This is really good news. I believe the next Star Wars is going to be really good. I can't wait to see new ideas brought into the Star Wars universe. Whether they use bits of the expanded universe that has already been written remains to be seen.

@Alvahnomicron - Actually, it seems more like Disney is planning on following in the footsteps of Lucas (althoug not necessarily in a bad way). He will still be involved creatively, and he is the one who penned the treatments for 7-9. Also, the rumors that were on the front page just few Articles before this one suggest that Hamill will be involved, and I would love to see Ford and Fisher follow suite. All three of them could be easily whipped into shape to appear just some 15 to 20 years older than ROTJ (maybe with some make-up as well).

Disney has the opportunity to do something really special with these movies. I hope that they take the critiques on the prequels seriously. They need to keep these movies small and personal to recreate the feel of the originals. Don't overload these movies with special effects and CGI. Keep things practical and personal.

I don't know. It would have been fun to see a lot of toddlers running around with lightsabers. Jedi Master Honey Boo-Boo! That would make even more people root for the Sith.

Yeah, Disney should just buy out Fox and Sony, then they'd have their characters back. Plus they'd have a whole new line of business! Actually that could be a good move for them. That way they would only be competing with WB and Paramount and a few other movie studios.

But I think it's great Disney bought Star Wars, this will spawn a new era of Star Wars films!

Dear Disney and LucasFilm,

Congratulations! You now possess the power of the force and with it comes a great deal of responsibility. So here's what you're going to do:

STEP 1 - you're going to set the new films (Episode 7, 8 and 9) 30 years after episode 6 (Jedi) and you're going to have the FULL original cast back playing themselves as older people. DID YOU HEAR ME? You are going to cast Harrison Ford as Han Freaking solo, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Leia, Billy Dee Williams as Lando and even Denis Lawson back as Wedge Antilles. HERE'S THE CATCH: THEY DON'T HAVE TO BE THE MAIN CHARACTERS. They are older now and you can use them as side characters revolving around NEW lead characters. We don't care what new characters take over leading roles but you HAVE to bring back the old cast for this all to be LEGIT and to come FULL circle. PLEASE don't cast new actors in these roles and don't CGI faces to make them look like the actors 30 years ago (Like in Tron Legacy) PLEASE!!! You can even kill them off in the first scene, just don't replace them.

STEP 2 - DON'T LISTEN TO ANYTHING GEORGE LUCAS SAYS! You paid him $4 Billion so tell him to shut up take his money and go make Radioland Murders Part 2! Put somebody in charge of directing who knows what we want. WE WANT EMPIRE STRIKES BACK ON CRACK. That means ACTING, ACTING, ACTING, ACTING, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, DRAMA, DEATH!!!!!

STEP 3 - Whatever you did to make AVENGERS as good as it was, do the same for STAR WARS! I feel the force is strong with you and your company can pull this off. The prequels were the worst films EVER MADE! They showed us just how evil the dark side of the force can be when it seduced George Lucas and took over his ability to distinguish right from wrong! Please redeem the Star Wars Universe. DO OR DO NOT...THERE IS NO TRY

Sincerely,

Geeks

DUDE YOU KNOW ABOUT THE K-POP GROUP CALLED RANIA !!! THAT IS SHOW AWESOME!!!!

About the article:

When I first read the news I had to do a double take on it. Then I started investigating more and more into it. As I went deeper and deeper into the mystery I found myself doing something I had not done in a very long time. I was "fanboyingly" excited beyond belief. I could not contain my excitement. One around 4 of my friends are as big of star wars fans as I am. My brother, a friend in Japan, and two friends in California. Imagine how I feel being unable to share this fan experience with out other people. I live in Las Vegas, I have many cousins that live here but they are only mild fans...

I am truly excited for this new trilogy and cannot wait for it.

@HalloweenJack - nice vid but I really hope they avoid two things:

- Excessive slow-motion in battle scenes
- Jedi so powerful that could destroy yoda with a finger snap. These games exxagerate the jedi powers to a level I find extremely annoying, like starkiller for example.

How can you not be happy about this? Look at what Disney has done with Marvel...

Disney acquiring Star Wars should be a fanboy's dream come true. With Disney's financial backing, we are destined to have Star Wars movies for years and years to come.

Getting George out of the driver's seat is simply great news. Now the franchise can finally move forward again, as it has only moved backwards in the theaters and games since 1984. Excited for Star Wars again, after so many years of hating it because of Lucas and his prequel mentality. Hope they recast, or pass the torch to the children of the main cast like Zahn said Lucas's original plan was. Also hope they dont [frick] it up for me even more!
