STAR WARS: John Boyega On Speaking Out About Finn's Disappointing Arc And What It Would Take To Return

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was widely branded a disappointment, and fans seemed to be especially let down by the decision to sideline both Finn and Poe Dameron. Their stories ended with more of a whimper than a bang, and actor John Boyega has talked openly about being unhappy, as a Black actor, seeing non-white characters overlooked in the sequels.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he explained how his castmates reacted to his comments.

"I got a text message from Daisy [Ridely], I mean we talk all the time," he revealed. "But to be fair I'm really, really close with my castmates, specifically Oscar [Isaac] and Daisy. Myself and Kelly [Marie Tran] had really transparent and loving conversations that I will never forget for the rest of my career."

"We were all already speaking about things, so me saying this wasn't really a shock to them," Boyega continued. "One must always talk about things so that in moving on for the next actor in that position, that's now not going to be an alien conversation."

Boyega isn't completely closing the door on a potential return to Star Wars, but he has no interest in a solo adventure for Finn. Instead, he hopes to reunite with some familiar faces.

"I don't know what's going on with Star Wars. I'm alive - that's one thing. But it would depend on story and if Daisy [Ridley] and Oscar [Isaac] are coming back. I wouldn't want to be running around by myself or anything."

While Lucasfilm appears to be moving on from the "Skywalker Saga," it's certainly possible we could see more from Rey, Finn, and Poe, especially as the latter two still need a definitive end to their stories.

What do you guys think?

Finn has the power to become the greatest character in the sequel era, with him being both a Stormtrooper with second thoughts and being force sensitive. If he returns, I wanna see him co-lead the new Jedi Academy with Rey

@bkmeijer - I really wish they'd ended the trilogy that way, with Finn kind of becoming Rey's apprentice and the two of them rebuilding the Jedi Order.

A check is a check. That being said his career seems solid enough without SW right now. I wouldn't go back if I were him unless I needed the $$$ and the story was worth it.

Lot of wasted potential. Finn was an opportunity to explore the Stormtrooper in a really different way.

@soberchimera - Boyega, from what we've heard and seen, deserves to "whine". Dude was treated like crap as soon as his head popped out of the sand in that first trailer.

@comicfan100 -

The paycheck should help with that, and I don't see Ridley, Driver, or Isaac complaining even though their character arcs were crap too. The only person who has a legitimate right to complain about the sequel trilogy is Mark Hamill.

I think it's cute how he grew his balls basically THE MOMENT he was done with SW. Kinda convenient.

Now don't get me wrong, i think we all agree with him but you know...

Or maybe the poor lad was forced to stay quite because of an NDA, like Ray, the horror. :(

@Doomsday8888 - Well obviously he's not gonna talk shit about his own film WHILE they are being released. Why would anyone do that? But after a negative fan reaction, there's no point in pretending you're proud of it anymore.

@Doomsday8888 - Doubt it was an NDA. TROS isn't even a year old and he spoke about it. Fisher it's been more time on JL and is still vague.
