Wes Anderson On Possibly Directing A STAR WARS Film For Disney

Moonrise Kingdom director Wes Anderson comments on the possibility of helming a Star Wars movie for Disney, suggesting that he doesn't "have all the right action chops". However, he seems to be interested in directing a Han Solo movie.

Speaking with Deadline, director Wes Anderson (Moonrise Kingdom, Fantastic Mr. Fox) discusses the possibility of taking on one of the new Star Wars movies for Walt Disney Pictures. It was previously reported that Disney will not only produce a new trilogy (with Episode VII targeting a 2015 release), but they will also make spin-offs for some characters (similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe). Despite Star Wars being one of his early influences as a director, Anderson doesn't think he has what it takes to work on such a film. "Well, I have a feeling I would probably ultimately get replaced on the film because I don’t know if I have all the right action chops. But at least I know the characters from the old films." However, he does sound interested in directing a film focusing on the backstory of Han Solo (played by Harrison Ford in the original trilogy). "I don’t think I would do a terrible job at a Han Solo backstory. I could do that pretty well. But maybe that would be better as a short." Meanwhile, the search is currently ongoing for a director to helm Episode VII while screenwriter Michael Ardnt (Toy Story 3) is working on the script. Anything STAR WARS is awesome news!

Cool, hopefully we'll get the old characters back, old Luke Skywalker/Hamil, Ford, Fisher etc, that's the plan from the very start, hope to frick Disney keeps to it!

Han Solo movie hey? If that ever happened, what's say we get Dennis Quaid if that ever happened, got that Harrison Ford to him :p

But yeah get them episodes 7,8 and 9 out first!

Cannot wait and no brainer we're gonna get lots of Marvel VS Star wars crossovers, Vader VS Wolverine etc, it will happen : D

Chill. They need to give it a rest. Star Wars has been raped three times over with the crappy prequels. At first I was excited for Disney, now I'm feel the exact opposite. Their plans for the franchise are definitely not in the best interest of the true fans. Next thing you know Johnny Depp will be the new Han Solo. This is BS. Disney could snuff it!

You could have expanded on that by saying "A film focusing on the backstory of Han Solo (played by Harrison Ford in the original trilogy, which was the only trilogy to ever feature Han Solo ad he has never been played by any other actor ever nor should he ever be replaced unless they do remakes in the far distant future when after everybody that was alive during the release of the original trilogy is long dead)." You could have said that. But that would've taken longer to say. So you may have well have just said "A film focusing onthe backstory of Han Solo (played by arrison Ford)." That would've been a bit better.
Really not fond of the inference, here.

So its gonna be an indie film with a lot of British and French pop music from the 70's and 60's and quirky family members (Jar-Jar Binks) and lot of bright saturated colors and Bill Murray will star in them most likely. Might by the soundtrack but not watch the movie.

I'd take whoever he uses to cast the children actors in his films. From Rushmore, he knocks it out of the park, not one annoys me except for the little turd who played Dennis The Menace, and even he's tolerable. From there you have the cast from The Royal Tennenbaums as youth and Chazz's sons are all well developed non irritating actors. And from there all of the scouts and the main leads in Moonrise Kingdom all really flawless compared to that wretched awful Jake Lloyd... Hayden Christiansen was pathetic as well, if they did The Clone Wars right and Christian Bale was Anakin Skywalker, we would have had a masterpiece on our hands.

I love most of Wes Anderson's movies. The idea of him being caught up for potentially years doing a giant Disney toy ad and not what he is very good at is not too pleasing.

@thedude, yeah the casting would be killer. And he must know how to get a good performance out of his actors.

I think he'd suprise a lot of people, including himself I guess. The best action always comes from the best storytellers.
