Rumors relating to Marvel Studios' plans for the Silver Surfer have been swirling since the Disney/Fox merger went through over 5 years ago, but it was generally assumed that the character would be put on the back-burner until the new Fantastic Four team was established.
Well, the FF reboot is now set for a 2025 release with casting currently underway, and this latest rumor suggests we might just see the Sentinel of the Spaceways make his MCU debut before it hits theaters.
The Cosmic Circus - who have built-up a pretty solid track record for Marvel-related scoops - is reporting that The Surfer will be introduced in a Disney+ "Special Presentation" in the same vein as the recent Werewolf By Night. According to their breakdown, the special will "feature Norrin Radd as Galactus’ Herald out in the far corners of the cosmos. Radd will not be on Earth during his special presentation and will also not interact with any cosmic characters already established in the MCU."
Their sources cite Netflix's Sandman "but with a cosmic spin" as inspiration.
The project is reportedly being developed for release "a few months before" Fantastic Four, and while an exact time-frame is obviously difficult to pinpoint, it's stressed that the Silver Surfer Special "must release before the film." If accurate, this would obviously indicate that the Surfer - and possibly even Galactus- could also have a role in the movie.
This does seem like a lot of info for these guys to get hold of at such an early stage of development, but again, they have been known to share pretty major scoops that have ultimately panned out, so this is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
What do you make of this one? Do you think a solo Special Presentation is the best way to debut the Silver Surfer? Drop us a comment down below.
