Andrew Garfield's Stunt Double Clarifies His THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 "Confirmation" - SPOILERS

Certain sites recently ran with a "rumor" that Andrew Garfield's stunt-double had confirmed that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was now in development, and William Spencer has now cleared things up...

This may not seem like much of a spoiler at this point, but just in case you still haven't seen Spider-Man: No Way Home yet, we will be discussing major plot details from this point on.

As we all knew he would after numerous leaks, Andrew Garfield returned as his take on Spider-Man to swing into action alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland's versions of the webhead in No Way Home. The Amazing Spider-Man star left a big impression on fans, so much so that #MakeTASM3 began trending on social media shortly after the movie's release.

Of course, this inevitably led to "rumors" that Sony Pictures was actively developing a third TASM movie with Garfield back in the red and blue suit, and a recent post from the actor's stunt double only fanned the flames.

William Spencer responded to a fan congratulating him on “getting the call for ASM3” by thanking him for his comment, and several sites took this as confirmation of the report - despite Spencer saying he knew nothing about any plans for a third instalment in an earlier post. Unfortunately, common sense rarely prevails on the internet, and Spencer has been forced to clarify his response with a follow-up post.

Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios have almost certainly acknowledged the outpouring of support for Garfield following his return to the role, and while we could well see his take on Spidey again at some point, a third TASM movie seems like a bit of a long shot.

Wouldn't you need a director and writer confirmation before getting it from a stunt double?

@MCUKnight11 - in fairness, leaks like this do tend to come from people low on the totem pole. Like an extra bringing their phone onset.

This is definitely a real "whoops" and not a save from leaking something by accident. While I'd like to see an ASM3, I kinda think that franchise is done.

We MAY see Garfield again voicing the character in Across the Spider-Verse tho.

@KWilly - idk. If there's interest and hopefully with some fresh faces, maybe they could use that as less of a third amazing film and more additional movies tied to that universe. Maybe elaborating that this is the same universe as venom, or making it as an exploration of the multiverse, starting with an encounter with spider Gwen.

Willing to bet he is going to be in Venom 3, ASM3 isnt happening.
Psyconiix
Psyconiix - 12/30/2021, 10:53 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - both TASM3 and SM4 would make a ton of movie. I think we'll see TASM3 down the line and a S6 farther down the line with Andrew.
Shivermetimbers
Shivermetimbers - 12/30/2021, 10:59 AM
@Psyconiix - Too much spiderman saturation if they try to keep these storylines going. I dont think they would do as well as you think they would.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 12/30/2021, 11:03 AM
@Psyconiix - Would they, though? previous Amazing movies flopped, and Spiderman 4...it depends if Raimi is involved, and that would be one expensive movie to make.
suitekid
suitekid - 12/30/2021, 1:06 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Neither Amazing Spider-Man movie flopped. They’re just on the lower end of Spider-Man movies. TASM 2made 700 million dollars.
Psyconiix
Psyconiix - 12/30/2021, 2:13 PM
@suitekid - yeah I don't know why people always say they flopped. They never did. And with the energy and appreciation going on for Andrew, it'd likely make another 700mil. Just shorten up the budget if they're nervous.

Besides, it's a perfect time for the black suit for Andrew.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 12/30/2021, 2:28 PM
@suitekid @Psyconiix - Read the leaked Sony emails, the first movie barely broke even, and the second one lost A LOT of money.

A Spiderman movie making $700M is considered a failure (Sony expected "Avengers numbers" from Amazing 2), the Venom movies make more than that, and are less espensive.

SonOfAGif - 12/30/2021, 10:24 AM
Sony wants new properties for some reason. The Amazing Spider-Man would just delay their determination to making a Silver Sable movie or The Secret Life of Richard Parker.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 12/30/2021, 10:28 AM
@SonOfAGif - it shouldn't be any problem. I think Sony sees now the importance of Marvel Studios with a Spider-Man movie starring Spider-Man, so maybe they also see they need a Spider-Man for their universe

@SonOfAGif - People seem to forget how much they hated the Amazing movies (in some cases, to the point of boycotting them), and that they were finnancial flops.
As someone said "where were you guys in 2014?"
Shivermetimbers
Shivermetimbers - 12/30/2021, 10:55 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Right? Up until No Way Home came out, everyone on this site seemed to talk down on the ASM movies including Garfield in that role, now its all, "WE WANT ASM3!!", "Garfield was the best part of NWH...", etc.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 12/30/2021, 11:02 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - I remember those days. The Raimi fanatics took it to the extreme though.

@Shivermetimbers @TheHumanSpider2- To be fair to those folks, they did the same thing after Ragnarok.

Look at the expressed excitement for Thor 4, as if people didn't constantly clown him and the first two movies.

Will marvel have a say so in this now or would it be under Sony only. If I was Sony I would just hand the keys over to marvel for everything at this point.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 12/30/2021, 10:43 AM
@Grodd87 - Marvel Studios doesnt have a say in any Sony production, Kevin Feige is a consultant in the Holland movies, and even in those movies, Sony has the final saying if they use his ideas or not.
Origame
Origame - 12/30/2021, 10:59 AM
@Grodd87 - it depends. There are apparently talks of including Tobey and garfield in other mcu projects. Not saying that's true, but if it is then it would make sense marvel would try to be involved in any continuing adventures with them.
Whaley87
Whaley87 - 12/30/2021, 11:04 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Kevin Feige is a producer on the Spider-Man movies, what you on about?
LSHF
LSHF - 12/30/2021, 11:20 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Marvel Studios has 100% creative control over the Spider-Man films. This has always been the case. Sony pays for them and gets about 75% of the profit. That is Sony's official input.

In the original contract, Sony got 100% of the profit.

Again, Marvel Studios has 100% creative control and ALWAYS HAS. They hire the people, write the scripts, etc.

I'm guessing that you are guessing based upon what is normal for most films. But that is not how they worked out their contracts.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 12/30/2021, 12:46 PM
@Whaley87 - Executive producer, he has no final saying, Amy Pascal does, and still, she has to respond to Tom Rothman, just like Kevin Feige has to respond to Bob.

@LSHF - Sony has complete and total creative control over the solo movies, they decide which suggestions to use or not.
According to Kevin Feige, making Tony Peter's mentor was his suggestion, and Sony accepted the suggestion.
Tom Rothman literally said "we mantain total creative control over these movies, but we want to make money, and Kevin Feige knows how to make money".
We still dont know which parts of these movies come from Kevin Feige and which parts come from Amy Pascal, althrough Dafoe, Molina, and Foxx confirmed it was Amy who aproach them with the idea of coming back.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 12/30/2021, 3:54 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - No I'm pretty sure Sony don't have final say. The holland films are a Marvel production. THey have creative control.

Feige was a 'consultant' on TASM2, look how that turned out. Now he has more control.
Whaley87
Whaley87 - 12/31/2021, 10:50 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - No, he's still a full on producer, he wasn't listed as an executive producer in the credits. Where are you getting this from?

SonOfAGif - 12/30/2021, 11:03 AM
@MosquitoFarmer - I blame the editors who drop these types of articles that fan the flames. It's just as bad as those articles talking about a protest, controversy, and boycott of something. Then when you research it you find out it was all on Twitter involving 15 people upset over something. These editor's run with whatever can start a flame warm
MosquitoFarmer
MosquitoFarmer - 12/30/2021, 11:30 AM
@SonOfAGif - The article doesn't bother me on this one. It's the Twitter dopes who went OMG ASM3 confirmed, and with such certainty and excitement. That they don't seem to be generally factoring in how movies are made (and studios operate) just gets ludicrous.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 12/30/2021, 11:44 AM
@MosquitoFarmer - And that's kind of where I was going with my response. Most of the time these little controversies and "petitions" are always on Twitter and it's a vocal few. But these sites run them like they speak for the masses.
Odin
Odin - 12/30/2021, 10:46 AM
If you want Tobey and Andrew back to the roles, the only way I could see that happening is by having Andrew be in the Venom sequel, as was recently rumored. He would be the logical choice since Tobey already fought one Venom and Tom is apparently going to have his own symbiote arc in MCU (plus he's probably done with the multiverse for a now).

Tobey on the other hand could come back in live-action Miles Morales story. If Sony wants to do a live-action Miles Morales movies, why not use the Raimi-universe as a foundation to build upon. Fans might have much more immediate emotional connection, if Miles was portrait as a natural successor to the classic Spidey. And Those new movies could still be their own thing with their own identity.
