2 Director's Narrowed Down To Helm The New Spider-Man Reboot!

2 Director's Narrowed Down To Helm The New Spider-Man Reboot!

There have been many names, James Cameron, and Michael Bay to just name a couple. Read on to find out who the two directors are that Sony's got in the hot seat.

Lets get right to it. Deadline has reported that Marc Webb (500 days of Summer) and Sony have met. Sony is interested in Marc Webb because he portrays young people in '500 days of summer' like Sony wants to portray the young people in the rebooted Spider-Man universe.

That's it. Nothing official. No one has signed on yet.

The second guy in line is Matthew Vaughn, director of 'Kick Ass'. Which is my personal choice to direct Spidey in his new outing. If we have to go back to High School then let's do that with an established director at least. Matthew was offered to direct 'Thor' but then went the 'Kick Ass' route landing himself with what seems like a hit.

Sony is planning for a 2012 release. Why will filming this movie take so long? Because Sony is going to film it in 3-D. Look for that announcement to be made softly when Sony feels the time is right. The time will probably be right for them after they announce who will direct and star in the reboot.

Other director hopefuls that are on Sony's wish list are James Cameron, David Fincher and Wes Anderson. With these guys it is not a question of money or exposure, it is a matter of wanting to helm such a large project. Michael Bay merely said he wanted in, but there was no return interest from Sony.

Just please use James Cameron's 3-D technology so we can see what the Green Goblin should have looked like. One thing is for sure, this film will look amazing in 3-D at the Portage 16 IMAX Theater. With 3-D becomming the way to go we will see less gimicks and more of a translation into 3-D. Example of a good 3-D movie: Avatar! That was kick ass. Bad example of a 3-D movie: 'My Bloody Valentine' and the last 'Final Destination' flick, too many 3-D Gimmicks. A big budget movie wont feel the need to use cheep parlor tricks to draw their audiences in. Especially Spider-Man.

I don't care about 3d. It only allows them to do more money. Go with "kick ass" director! He is brilliant

I'd be happy with either! Because if Webb gets it, he may cast Joseph Gordon Levvit who he has worked with before. And if we get Vaugnh he may cast Aaron Johnson who is also a good choice for Spidey!!

No 3-D, it distarcts from the film and is pointless. Spidey is the arguably the worlds most popular supehero, people will see his films no matter what.

Motion Capture 3-D for the spiudey reboot would be the shit!

I don't see a problem with rebooting because, for me, the franchise has been on a downward spiral since halfway into the second film. And it only would've gotten worse if they were allowed to maintain the status quo. The Vulture? Seriously? Is anyone really disappointed that it didn't happen?

I think this whole Spiderman thing is bigger than the term cluster f**k. Marvel, and Sony have just f**ked over their main icon much like D.C did with Superman. Congrats to Sony and Marvel for watching D.C ruin a Superman film and doing the same Goddamn thing. F**king amazing that a f**k up like this could happen in 2010, nice way to start the new year.

I agree with Billy Black. The new news here is the 3-D Aspect and Matthew Vaughn being officially in consideration by Sony. This article also debunks Sony being interested in Michael Bay. The Marc Webb news was reported a couple days ago. Unfortuantely I have a gut feeling that Marc Webb will get the gig. I hope not, but thats what I think will happen.

I don't have anything against either of these directors, but please! NO silly gimmicks like 3D. That can work with things where you need gimmicks to get people into the theater, but Spidey is a strong enough character not to need that. It will also add to the cost of making the film. Let's save that budget money for more important things like finding a great cast and getting the sets looking good. I'm hopeful that this strategy will work, and we'll get to enjoy a Spider-man on film that is as much fun as he is in his books.

As for which Spidey we'll see, what I'd like to see is a mix of the "classic" Spidey with the Ultimate version, taking the best elements from each, and thereby giving all of Spidey's fans something they can enjoy about the film. I know a few people that hate the Ultimate Spidey, but might not mind some elements being taken from it (mostly in areas where the story should be modernized- the "genetically modified spider" for instance).

Mathew Vaughn is definitely the better choice. I can only hope that he has some knowledge and care for the source material. As for this 3D crap, I am almost certain that Sony will use it because naturally studio executives are morons. When TDK came out and made a billion dollars all the studios thought "Let's make our superhero films Darker!" And now that Avatar has a large box office gross due to the higher prices for 3D, all the studios are saying "Let's make our superhero films in 3D!" I swear, there must be an inverse correlation between Studios' Greed and IQ

I'm not familiar with Webb's work but his previous movies dont seem like the right kind of films to make him qualified to direct an action movie like Spider-Man so I'm going to have to say Matthew Vaughn is the better choice! :)

I'd be happy with either one. Apparently, I'm in the minority for liking (500) Days of Summer and I'd like to see Leavitt as Peter/Spidey. Vaughn would be awesome too.

I'll pass on the 3D thing. Not a big fan of the gimmicks to get people to movies. This movie will make a bajillion dollars regardless.

From what I see, Webb has no experience directing an action film and we have a good idea of Vaughn's ability to do so, though we haven't seen the finished product yet. He does have a better resume and I would feel a lot more comfortable with him at the helm.

500 Days was alright. I think if that little chick wasn't so annoying it would've been better. At least Vaughn has some action under his belt. That's what SHE said.

Any Director with good story telling and action experience Im good with. I really dont want another spiderman movie about the Green Goblin though. Goblin, Doc Oc, and Sandman have been done, we got a ton of other Spidey-villains just waiting to make an appearance on the big screen. Why waste a re-boot on telling a story thats already been told.

Exactly homie. Cameron or Matthew Vaughn would be right. Cameron would be epic, but sadly I doubt that happens.

skidz
skidz - 1/14/2010, 11:13 AM
I say they should do something really crazy: Get Cameron to PRODUCE(that'll give them easier access to the Avatar filming tech)the movie for the epic aspect, the writer of Spiderman 2 and Vaughn for the filming itself. Like I said, crazy, but it's not like Marvel has anything to lose.

3D isn't pointless if there is a fanbase for it, which there obviously is. people should stop bashing 3D for no reason, i get the point that people don't want movies filmed for 3D because then there are goofy scenes with stuff flying at the screen. but the new 3D isn't all about that. its not just things flying at your face like it was back in the day.

now it actually adds depth to everything. maybe we should wait to see what a movie will look like before instantly bashing it for being 3D.

and if you don't like 3D...then watch it normal. no one is forcing 3D on you.

YES TO VAUGHN!!!..PERFECT CHOICE!

NO TO 3D!..I'M STILL UNSURE HOW I FEEL ABOUT
CBM'S BEING 3D..IF EVERYTHING IS 3D..IT DOESN'T
MAKE IT THAT SPECIAL..I SAY SAVE 3D FOR AVATAR 2
AND KIDS ANIMATED MOVIES..NOT CBM'S.

Remember when Matthew Vaughn was going to direct X-men 3? He was going to help revise the final script and get right to it. He even cast a few of the roles himself. Then he left and Brett Ratner took over...Hey, this is kind of a sad story.

And all you Cameron haters, if he wants the job, he will have the job. No one cares about a few whiners who don't like his record breaking a universally acclaimed films. He is simply one the best directors ever.

TheDemonHunter

I have no trouble accepting them changing the spider from radioactive to genetically altered. That's a minor point, at least in my eyes.

I'm among the few who can't watch the new 3D stuff without killer headaches for a few hours after. That doesn't mean I dont' think they should use it though. So long as they still make sense in 2D as well, I'm fine with whatever gimmicks they want to use for the people who want that. *shrugs* Whatever.

My biggest complaint about the new Spider-Man movies is that I don't want to watch a bunch of kids in high school. That's not the Spider-Man I'm interested in or read through three decades. In the comics, he graduated high school in 1965, which is even before I was born.

To each their own, but making him 15 years old or whatever like in the Ultimates kinda takes away the interest I'd have in seeing it.

MICHAEL BAY!!! ; D

Seriously he make the best SPIDEY movie! : P

Okay im not too bothered i think everyone know what i think of a SPIDEY reboot, unless its flashbacks of the origin and not going through it all again, i wont ever be watching it, ever!

As for CAMERON, luv the guy but he'd make it too much his own and it would'nt be SPIDER-MAN anymore, i mean check the stuff he wanted to do to SPIDEY the first time from 2001, its all online!!!

As for WEB or VAUGHN, i'd only pick the guy that does not want another two hour ORIGIN movie lool!!! : D
