Raimi Lets Go Some More Spidey 4 News

Who is Peter Parker? Is the director interested in the return of Kirsten Dunst? What will the tone of Spider-Man 4 be? All these questions are at least touched on by the Webslinger's director.

Whether you believe in the hype or not, people are hammering for any Spider-Man 4 movie news. With rumors running around that Kirsten Dunst will not return for the 4th installment to Bruce Campbell playing a fan favorite villain in Mystero, Sam Raimi sheds a little light on what actually is happening and puts some speculation to rest.

Raimi does not seem to be looking to mold Spider-Man 4 from the success of TDK. Instead Raimi wants to delve deeper into the character that is Peter Parker. Raimi goes on to say: "I hope we don't react to these very good and sometimes bad superhero movies around us. I hope that we just take ever deeper into the truth of who Peter Parker really is," Raimi said. "As a human being and the unique character, and that we celebrate that, which is a lot of the reason I want to make this next picture. I still believe I have an understanding of Peter Parker as the character that I have not quite put onto the screen yet."

Truth be told Spider-Man 4 would not be as good of a movie as it could be if the entire tone of it was dark. The dark tone worked for TDK because that's what Batman is. Spidey is a smart mouthed, wisecracking crime fighter. We need to see more of that in Spider-Man 4. Spider-Man basically is the most annoying New Yorker you know that could web you up and make you feel bad about it at the same time.

According to Raimi if screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire delivers a dark, edgy toned script then that's the kind of movie Raimi will make, if the screenplay goes into a different direction then that's what Raimi will follow. One thing is for sure, fans do not want a wishy washy Spider-Man any more. We have seen what happens to a emotional wreck that has super powers, lets move on. Time for a solid Spider-Man movie with at the most 2 villains that are properly introduced on screen without making it look like one or the other should not be there.

Raimi goes on to say that soon he will be meeting with Kirsten Dunst about reprising her role as Mary Jane. Sam Raimi and Star Toby Mcguire have signed the dotted line for Spider-Man 4, no such luck for Ms. Dunst.

i havent read a spiderman comic in sometime but i do know that parker is a great friend to people around him and sacrifices himself unselfishly, so hopefully this means him helping dr connors find a cure :) while connors/lizard is trying to eat his head off.

Yeah there should be some Lizard love for certain! But i dont know about this constant wise cracking, happy go lucky Spidey people want to see. I mean i agree he did get a bit too whiny in the movies but if hes always wising off and beating the bad guys sensless wheres the drama? There has to be some lows for the hero or it would be boring. Also, i like Dunst as MJ! I know im in the minority but i really dont see the reason for all the hate. Sure shes not model gorgeous like the character in the comic but i still found her sexy..in the first 2 movies at any rate, she did get a bit skinny in the 3rd. Plus she played the part very well i thought

oh defintly agree dunst was pretty hot in I .. alot had to do with the wet t shirt though:). and your right she acted out what the parts they wrote her in III. i just think the majority is craving for some Gwen Stacey -drool- it was as short scene but i wanted more of her instantly
and this was actually a bad ass scene from spiderman III.

AWESOME! He's going back to Peter Parker's roots, and running with that! That works, Raimi! Give us a solid story like you did in SPIDERMAN 2! Everything about SM2 was Superb! Peter Parker's being torn about revealing his secret to MJ, Aunt May's money troubles and when he revealed that Uncle Ben's death was his indirect fault, Harry's turmoil to live up to his father's expectations, ALL were key elements that made SM2 unforgettable. IMO, SM2 is right up there with TDK, when it comes to BEST Sequels! :)

OH MY KIRSTEN! OH LORDY PIE! Thank You, Rorschach01! lol :)

I HEARD THAT RAIMI WAS PUSHED TO INCLUDE VENOM BY AVI ARAD FOR FANS, WICH MIGHT HAVE INTERFERED A BIT WITH RAIMI'S COOL STREAK..GOOD THING NOW THEYRE LEAVING HIM ALONE TO GET BACK ON TRACK..MARVEL LET HIM ALONE TO DO HIS THING OK? HE'S GOOD

SpiderMan209 - I-could-not-agree-more! SM2 was and still is one of the best superhero movies around. SM3 got too crowded and rushed. It was close to being as awesome as we wanted it to be, but a last minute hash of the venom story tainted it. It was like they had written a really good movie (sandman was great) and they got a call last minute telling them to add venom or else!

I'm glad they are not going TDK with the tone. As much as I love dark movies, it's good to hear some people aren't "cashing in" on it and actually want to get a tone that suits the title character.

Ah, the nostalgia I feel when I see a MacFarlane Spidey cover.

They better do the Lizard. Kirsten Dunst' take on MJ is way too insecure. As for Dunst herself, she's alright but there is better suited out there. She hasn't put a stamp on the character she plays like RDJ, Hugh Jackman, J.K. Simmons or Patrick Stewart has with their characters. She's easily replaceable.

Isla Fisher
Emma Stone
Rachel Hurd-Wood

All can easily replace and make a more appealing MJ. So if she says no, boo-hoo, she's replaceable. More wise-cracking is needed during fights, it's a huge part of his fighting style and as for drama in a battle, it can easily be a tool used to gauge the seriousness of the fight. The less he talks the more trouble he's in. It's just such a big part of the character that it shouldn't be outright ignored.

She can have my baby any day....Jezzuz..thats the hottest pic i have ever seen of her...

To each its own, but KD is still a good looking chick.

Howlett04-i agree, SM3 seemed rushed and got crowded with too much story. but i do hate recasts so i vote for kirsten to continue, she's not all bad. and i hope for the kraven and lizard story

I like Dunst, but have to agree that I could care less if Mary Jane were in the next installment. I say this because I would really just like to see an action/adventure comic book film for a change, and not a romance/comedy/action/adventure/fantasy/... Sorry, I fell asleep there for a moment.

And please tell me that we're finally going to see the Lizard!
My vote's for Kraven and the Chameleon as the supporting villains in the next one!
(*You could easily incorporate Vermin, Vulture, Rhino, Grizzly or any of the other "animal totem" villains Peter faces on a regular basis, and the Chameleon as well, without having to delve too heavily into their backgrounds!)

Follow me:

Sergei, and his brother Dmitri Kravinoff are eccentric, wealthy game hunters who have no conscience. Sergei hires his brother to find individuals to play an (unwilling) part in live, human hunting sessions. Dmitri, a master of disguise and a brilliant engineer, creates animal suits that give the wearers abilities similiar to the hides they wear (Rhino skin, Vulture wings, Grizzly claws, etc.), uses his disguises to catch the prey, and sets them loose to play a game of "cat-and-mouse" through the backdrop of the city. Peter stumbles into one of these individuals as they are being "hunted", and foils the game for the Kravinoffs. They then turn to hunting their next prey, Spider-Man! Just when they've almost got him, they hear a rumor about a creature that has been hiding in the sewers of New York, the Lizard (Kurt Conners)!

Kirsty Dun has always been an example of how any woman can be very sexy. I am very turned on by a woman who isnt A-typical beauty but still rides a wild mustang through my loins, if i had'em. She is an everyday hottie. I like her as MaryJane. She makes peter parker an honest character, and the fact that spidey could do better but doesnt go lookin for the porn looking chick gives me a warm wet one. Still though my miss lady is hotter than Kirsten ('cept the rack) so i may be a bit of a Hypocrite. Give her some material and let her show her grrrr face.

Cheadle is a better actor than Howard, but Howard played the role of War Machine flawlessly. Cheadle's in the same boat as RDJ: neither of them is a superb pick, but they're such great actors that it doesn't even matter.

I totally disagree with the comment that this film can't have an entirely dark tone. Kraven's Last Hunt anyone ? They could easily do a two parter with that storyline. Use Spider-Man 4 for the Kraven the Hunter origin and first part of the storyline with a cliffhanger ending (Spidey being incapacitated and put in the coffin.) Spider-Man 5 opens up with Spidey stuck in the coffin and the rest of the movie continues and finishes the story.

1)Definitely more wise cracking.

2)I would like to see more of Gwen, But I have no problem with Kirsten coming back as MJ. Just don't focus the story around their relationship too much or we will have the Marvel version of the Lana Lang Show that Smallville became.

i've said it before and i'll say it again. tobey mcguire would have played theee perfect spider-man. lanky funny wise cracking geek. instead they had him play the total opposite which is venom. i wish they cud go back in time and just do a little switcharoo and also do venom some reeaal justice.

oh man Todd McFarlane art, god i miss that stuff the 1st issue of the torment saga was the first spidey issue i owned that was some good stuff.

I'm all for the wise cracking spidey that was the one thing that disappointed me about the first 3 films, i was ok with it in the first since it was his first outing as spidey but by the second he should have been a lot more cocky then he was i think he made fun of ock once in that film and it was when they were in the bank, but after that he didn't joke too much. the third i guess gets away with it since he was in the black suit most of the movie and then getting owned at the end.

wise cracking spidey can be easily done even if he is getting his butt creamed he still jokes, sometimes making fun of himself..lol

does anyone watch Spectacular Spider-man that show is done so well, spidey is a wise a$$ and Venom is done really well they should have done spidey 3 the way the last 3 eps of season 1 were done. I also think if they wanted to bring venom back into the movies and do him right they should do what season 2 of SS-M did

Spidey cant have a dark tone? That's probably the mindset that the crew had in making part 3 which made it freakin crappy in the first place.

Sure, Spiderman is a light colorful character but c'mon... In part III with the Symbiote on his ass, the worst he can do is dance on a table and go emo? lame. A lot of SUCCESSFUL Spidey books had very dark tones and the latest of which were "The Other" and "Back in Black."

So, if they're planning to go with Spiderman III-esque feel and antics for part IV, i refuse to watch this in the theaters.

oh and Lizard would be awesome but i don't want to press it cause that is what happened with spidey 3 fans wanted Venom so bad that producers pushed him on Raimi.

I just hope they do this one right. Spiderman 3 might as well of been called "The love life of Peter and Marry jane". And I wanna hear spidy talk more smack when hes whoopin up on guys. I like when he jokes around with the crooks. Just dont make peter parker a big vag like how he was in Spiderman 3. Honestly, he was like a little girl!! As for villians, id like to see lizzard or shocker.

I love a dark-toned super hero movie as much as the next guy, and I won't deny that Spider-Man DEFINITELY had his share of dark storylines, but as far as this next movie goes, the success of this franchise from here on out depends on this one and I just don't see it appealing to the masses with a tone that isn't similar to the first two movies. The thing about those 2 was that they were great whether you were a 6-year-old kid or a 40-year-old guy. (I guess I can't actually confirm either of those ages officially, but you see my point).

I like the formula of Peter Parker facing off against his scientist mentors gone bad. Like Batman facing off with some crazy from the asylum. It's just what works. Kirsten Dunst has to return or else the vibe of the series would really be off. she's been in three films already changing her appearance would turn people off. Just give her less film time and bring in more Gwen.

the old 90's spidey was awesome till they started pulling away from the source material horribly bad, but i did like how in the last few episodes it admitted that it was a separate timeline with Ben Riley showing up and spidey's from diff dimensions and stuff.

i dont like kirsten dunst as Mj
i honestly think they dug a rut by introducing Gwen the way they did, and by defeating both green goblins.

though she may be hot in that ONE picture, i dont like her bitchy acting especially not in the third one.
she doesnt have the supermodel qualities as she should.

not too crazy about Tobey, but hes doing a good job until he was dancing up the sidewalk, in the gayest part of Spiderman 3. Venom was introduced too early, and what the hell, Sandman flew off into the sunset like some dmn superhero, not a word just an apology, the hell was that?

I Second Gunsmiths enthusiasm for Morbius and Lizard.
Mad scientists all the way, i think it would bring back the ctual feel of who spiderman really is.
not some emo jerk off who ends up killing venom[ biggest mistake of spiderman3]
i just hope they dont introduce Carnage like that
