SUICIDE SQUAD Director David Ayer Has No Regrets About Working On The Movie Or With Warner Bros.

Even though it did pretty well at the box office, Suicide Squad is generally regarded as a failure by the majority of fans and critics. However, director David Ayer certainly doesn't look at it that way.

Over the past few days, Suicide Squad director David Ayer has been answering questions about his experiences working on the DC supervillain flick, and although he has made it very clear that he does wish he could have made some changes to the finished product, he says he has no regrets about taking the helm of the project.

In his Tweet, Ayer points out some of the positives associated with Suicide Squad that people tend to gloss over when ripping into it:

Despite several rumors that Ayer had parted ways with WB after Suicide Squad, as far as we know he is still on board to helm Gotham City Sirens and/or one of the several Harley Quinn/Joker spin-off that are currently in the works.

Perhaps this time he'll be allowed to stick a little closer to his original vision for these great characters.

Great response!

But you should probably have some regrets about making one of the worst movies of the decade.

That's nice and all, but Suicide Squad was absolute garbage. If I were him, I'd certainly regret making it.

@TheDayman -

why would he regret doing that ??

he got thousands of dollars making a piece of shit
is he proud of that ?
I doubt it...

@Equivocal - That's a fair point, but I'd hope that he'd have enough artistic integrity to not want to make bad films.

@TheDayman -

nobody wants to make a bad film
(don't think)
and that includes hack snyder
BUT
he doesn't know how to make a Clever, Engaging, well crafted story.
so far, he hasn't proved that
maybe he's still learning ??

@Equivocal - Well, I haven't seen any of his other films, so I can't really say for certain that Ayer is a bad director. His new film Bright looks terrible though, so maybe he just is that bad.

"...It won an Oscar, did incredible business. Launched a franchise and spinoff. And like it or not it’s halfway to cult status..."

@Stealthduck - "What he said is true". Then, where are those spin-offs he talked about? None of them is even in production.

@Demo2nd - Gotham City Sirens & Harley vs Joker have been touted, also a Harley stand-alone film, which may or may not be one of the aforementioned projects. It also depends what 'production' means, as it seems that a script is being written, but regardless, it seems at least one of these will get made. Ayer is still attached to WB, Margot Robbie is a producer on the next film, so at some level there is movement.

@Stealthduck - People making movies by sheer willpower and cutting a check is how WB got into this mess.

The fact that they want to keep dropping turd is not a proof that the first movie wasn’t a turd. It’s juts proof that there’s people who will continue eating up turds.

@Pedrito - David Ayer stated that it did well, monetarily, and has launched, albeit in it's infancy, a possibility of further films. Just facts, devoid of ratings. There was no mention of your or my personal feelings on the film. Like it or not, the film accomplished those things he said, regardless of critical examination. Please read the entire article, if you have not.
It also won an Oscar! That is a fact!

@Stealthduck - An Oscar for costumes. Well great, but that doesn’t make it watchable.

Also, the tweet is self explanatory. I’m adding the context that the movie sucked. You can add the context that you don’t care about quality. Then go ahead and be happy that they’re making more movies of the same caliber. You deserve them.
