BSG'S Tahmoh Penikett Confirmed For MAN OF STEEL; But Who Is He Playing?

A good while ago a rumor did the rounds that the Battlestar Galactica actor would make an appearance in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, but now it would seem to have been confirmed - and there's a SLIM chance he could be playing Metallo!..

We didn't actually cover Tahmoh Penikett's rumored involvement with Man Of Steel at the time because there wasn't quite enough solid evidence for it, but now Penikett himself - who has recently joined Twitter, and has been very active and open with fans since - seems to have confirmed it via the social networking site. The actor remains tight lipped on who he is playing, but our friends over at the MOS Facebook page have noticed that IMDB now lists him as a character called 'Henry Ackerdson' - which is very similar to Henry Ackerson, the alias used by Metallo in the DC animated flick, Justice League Doom. Of course, coming from IMDB we have no idea if it's on the level or not - and even if the name is accurate, it might very well have nothing to do with Metallo - but given the secrecy surrounding Penikett's role, it could be a possibility. What do you think? Could we see Metallo pop up to make Superman's life even more difficult in Man Of Steel?

Yeah most definitely Metallo. What with the huge military presence in the film and all.

it would be pretty epic if braniac was our sequel villain. maybe doomsday in the 3rd film?

as for metallo, i can absolutely see him being some sort of creation by the military since they seem to be very present in this film.

i'd love it if this was DC/WB 'ironman' - by that i mean the starting point for JL & other individual films...but i know thats a lost cause. hopefully snyder & nolan will just give us a good kent trilogy while DC/WB go on and [frick] up JL & the other members. sad.

@IronDean2099- Probably not. After the Green Lantern debacle, WB wouldn't shoot themselves in the foot like that again. Man of Steel will be a wait-and-see movie. No talk of sequels until its performance at the box office is clear.

@CaptainObvious- Fair point, but if there's a way to incorporate him as a set up without detracting from the story then what's to lose? That Sinestro scene was so rushed though. I love the character and Mark Strong owned it, but I wanted to see him slowly turn away from the Corps and turn to totalitarianism. The yellow suit was boss though.

@IronDean2099- That alone is the reason why I'm glad there won't be a Green Lantern sequel. The movie horribly rushed and undermined Sinestro's character arc. So when the time came for him to put on the yellow ring, it felt random and out of nowhere. Also, the biggest loss of the film is the subtraction of Hal's and Sinestro's alliance. As Sinestro turns to the dark side, he is put at odds with Hal. Now we have two friends with opposing ideologies. That makes the downfall of Sinestro more personal and more tragic.

But no, instead we got this nonsense. Where Sinestro turns into the bad guy for no good reason. Since the friendship between Hal and Sinestro was virtually nonexistent in the film, then there would be no reason for the audience to care about what would have happened in the sequel. I don't mean to turn a Superman-related article into something like Green Lantern (I personally hate it when people diverge from the point of the article), but what you said sparked the perfect opportunity to get this thing off my chest.

Metallo. ...obviusly, or maybe Lex Luthor???

unless Christopher Meloni is the real Luthor???

Metallo. ...obviamente, o tal vez Lex Luthor

a menos que Christopher Meloni sea el verdadero Luthor???

I really hope this ends up being an epic trilogy just like The Dark Knight Trilogy. It would be so great to have a Man of Steel Trilogy someday too.
