Michael Shannon as the antagonist, General Zod...

And Russell Crowe as Jor-El!!!

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.”

Man of Steel is set to take flight on June 14, 2013!!! Countdown to epicness!

The more I see of Henry Cavill in the suit, the more he looks like Superman come to life. This pic confirms that fact even more. Hopefully the script will give him the chance to show his true acting ability, unlike Immortals.

Cavill is the first actor to play superman and actually have muscles like superman, reeve and routh where both very skinny when they played supes. To get muscles like that you need to stuff your face full of protein and weights lift about 4-5 hours a day. Unless he's got padded muscle under the suit.

At least they didn't go with the hideous crystal Krypton sets from the other films. And they seem to have reduced the size of that ridiculous stuffed codpiece on Cavill's suit.

@PatriotsSuperguy change that first photo (which is a users scan) with Empire's photo, which has proper definition and color:

Anyway, Zod and Jor-El look badass. Shannon is going to be the best villain we've seen since Ledger's Joker.

@SaintSpidey67Re - I agree, but it's just a stupid catchphrase to get peoples (general public) attention and to sell the magazine (and movie) better. Whatever works I guess. MOS looks nothing like TDK so far anyway. It looks way better, thankfully.

Looks amazing! But looking in the trailer, the colors of the uniform looks brighter.

Anyway, I don't see much of TDK in these pictures nor in the trailer, but Warner is certainly trying to sell it this way. Nolan has said that Man of Steel will be different, so I'll trust more in his words than Warner's marketing.

@GordonShumway Agreed. It starting to piss me off when people say they're making superman work dark and gritty. Because for one it doesn't look dark and gritty at all, it looks like a science fantasy/fiction movie. And 2 it's a movie about a humanoid alien that was sent to earth as a baby by his father because his planet was going to be destroyed, who can defy gravity, shoot lasers out of his eyes, freeze things with his breath and has strength that could kill a human by merely bumping into one, and his flies around in a blue and red costume with a red cape. Doesn't sound dark and gritty to me. Apologies for getting of track a bit but it needed to be said.

This Superman outfit looks silly. Is Superman going surfing with a bathrobe attached to his back? What's the deal with his head/neck? Did they Photoshop his head on another person's body? I'll pass on this movie entirely. Fool me once shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me.

@dodgerfan805

Yeah, the suit looks silly. Because the original Superman suit is just soooo badass, right? I have no words to describe how cool was the Christopher Reeve's uniform, that all bright leotard... just pure epic!

But serious, I don't mean anything bad about Donner's, I love the first Superman movie more than any other superhero movie, but let's face it: it was back in a time where superheroes were campy freaks. The original suit worked well at the time, but nowadays anyone can make that with some rags in the basement.

@teabag

That's a fallacy. There's a huge difference between being darker and grittier in relation to something and being dark and gritty as absolute values. Avengers is darker than Toy Story and yet is not a dark movie.
But I kinda agree with the second part, though.

This could be better than TDK. I would not be surprised at all if this turned out to be the best CBM of all time. We are talking about f#cking SUPERMAN!!!

I think a little more color would have helped it, just a touch more brightness would make it pop more. Nothing wrong with it one way or the other, just feels like it could benefit from a little more light. I think I might blame the photographer though, dark background did not help those colors.

Comparison to TDK is inevitable, especially with the title of this being a direct influence from that one.

This movie will rock, so much. Cavill and Bale are Superman and Batman to me, what I would pay to get them on screen fighting side by side.

Its so incredible because I can see Cavills good natured aura clashing with Bales aggressive justice. GAH

If this matches the quality of TDK, I'm rooting for DC all the way because I prefer quality over sacrifices to make a shared universe.
