We have reached the Quarterfinals of the Comic Book Movie Villain Tournament. And now, a moment of silence for
Ma-Ma,
Dredd's drug pusher who exceeded a lot of expectations. In a
shocking maybe not so shocking turn of events, Heath Ledger dominated
The Joker vs Joker showdown. And CBM's ultimate monster,
The Abomination, fell to Otto Octavius. But the closest race was
Loki vs General Zod, which as of this writing, split 50/50! Our first tie, screw it- BOTH move on!
Making the Top 8 (9, I guess), are basically all the No.1 seeds of their respective divisions, save for Doctor Octopus and Faora, the last woman standing. I think Doc Ock taking on The Winter Soldier will be interesting, because Bucky has shown a lot of bracket dominance. But the match of the week this time is the Loki-Zod-Shaw Triple Threat 3-way fight! (hilarious) We are winding down, the top villains in CBMs- based not on comic reputation, but by what they did
on screen. Vote now to see him (or her) through! You can see the
whole bracket here.
Loki (
Thor, The Avengers) vs.
General Zod (Man of Steel) vs.
Sebastian Shaw (
X-Men First Class)
Loki may not have been as strong or as intense as General Zod, but its no secret he's much craftier, but this one ended in a stalemate! Like Obadiah Stane, Sebastian Shaw is a business man. Unlike Stane, he doesn't need a metal suit to do some major damage.
Magneto (
X-Men First Class, Days of Future Past) vs.
The Kingpin (
Daredevil)
Remember when Ra's Al Ghul was crushed in the falling train? Yeah, Magneto did that. Wilson Fisk is the type of man that might have made Ma-Ma who she is today. Or put her in her place...
Doctor Octopus (
Spider-Man 2) vs.
The Winter Soldier (
Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
All the weapons in Goblin's arsenal couldn't slow the Winter Soldier once he got in close. For all of The Abomination's brute strength, it was easy enough to out think him, and compromise the playing field, as Doc Ock is wont to do.
The Joker (
The Dark Knight) vs.
Faora-Ul (
Man of Steel)
There wasn't anything left of Artemisia when Faora was through with her.
@bearjew may have said it best from last week's comments on why Ledger's Joker beats Jack's:
"Heath's was a much more insidious and less cartoony Joker and had the ability of manipulation"
