DC Studios Boss James Gunn Debunks Hilarious Rumor About Former SUPERMAN Henry Cavill's DCU Future

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has debunked a bizarre rumour about Henry Cavill's involvement with Creature Commandos, while also sharing some intriguing updates about the DCU's future. Read on for details!

Over the past few days, you might have noticed a weird rumour doing the rounds claiming James Gunn has cast former Superman Henry Cavill as Frankenstein in Creature Commandos

That would certainly be a different type of role for the British actor in the DCU, but we're not even remotely shocked to report that it won't actually be happening. The DC Studios co-CEO took to Twitter to debunk these claims, revealing that the role has already been cast with his and Peter Safran's "first choice."

We don't know who that is, but casting for the animated series will be very interesting seeing as the same actors will be used in live-action projects too.

In a separate Tweet, Gunn reiterated that DC Studios has "discussed other roles" with Cavill, so there's still a chance he'll be part of this shared world moving forward. Aquaman star Jason Momoa, for example, is expected to play Lobo (and we've heard it could happen as soon as Superman: Legacy).

Oh, and in news we're sure will excite many of you, Gunn has also mentioned that we've seen "less than half" of the "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" slate.

It's an exciting time to be a DC fan, that's for sure, and things are definitely looking up for this franchise.

Check out Gunn's Tweets below.

If the MCU is failing, and in my estimation, and currently is on a downward trend, then the DCEU… it’s just got too much going against it to turn this thing around. Like a bad marriage

@TheWalkingCuban - idk, I think Gunn is smart enough to know which threads he shouldnt touch so he can keep the genre fresh. Marvel is being a perfect example of what not to do these days so..

@TheWalkingCuban - FAILING??? this is has got to be some shit pulled straight out of your ass. FAILING??? GIMME a damn break. its not even close. you not liking projects or casting recently in the MCU doesnt equate to failing. to each their own dawg...but its not failing by no means.

@SorceresSupreme - marvel is but so is dc. By that I mean hey pre-Gunn movies: shut up. But they don’t shut up. Got Aquaman 💩 the bed, Ezra turning off the more discerning viewers, if not the more oblivious ones, and Shazam Wow probably somewhere in the Antman 3 range, A BAD RANGE. The only difference is tenure. We’re talking modern times here, MCU and post Nolan. Nevertheless, Flash does bring batman ‘89 back into the mix, but we’ll call that the exception not the rule. Ain’t no Jonah hex or Superman Returns in the conversation.

Modern DC is flatlined or at the very least critical (minus Batman and Joker, those crazy guys), and the MCU may be in stable condition, but it shouldn’t be in the hospital at all.

@supermanrex - It's definitely failing. They've done it to themselves. Phase One through like 3 were great for the most part. Didn't push agendas and wasn't trying to play political virtue. Just good stories and characters.
Everything since Endgame, with the rare exception, has been agenda based garbaged. Disney as a whole is failing for that same reason.
It really doesn't matter whether or not you accept that fact, it changes nothing as they continue to lose money and tank.

@Imprtracr1 - I would say to the far from home the tractors, doesn’t far from home look really good right now? And yet at the same time, except for Mysterio, it’s a bit forgettable. No Way Home was done Avengers level 💩 surrounded by Shazam level 💩

@TheWalkingCuban - I do like the Sony/MCU/Holland Spider-Man films admittedly. I think Into the Spiderverse is great as well and look forward to Across the Spiderverse.

@Imprtracr1 - “Into” is one of the only movies that can be called the best cbm ever vs TDK, with a straight face. Supposedly this next one is even better but that’s a high high bar

@TheWalkingCuban - We're entering into the next cultural cinematic phase. I don't think superhero films will ever truly leave (just like Western never really did), but I think the genre peaked with Endgame. Not that I don't still enjoy Marvel movies, but to quote every other character in every other trailer: "The world is changing".

I mentioned this on another page, but I'm getting the feeling that we're in the midst of another early-90s-esque surge in auteur/indie film, especially with the rise of A24 and the mega success of Every Everywhere All at Once and The Whale.

I think if DC rebooted everything tomorrow and had the new Superman film out this year, things might change. But they've still got several films coming out from the DCEU, and unfortunately I think people will mostly lose interest by the time the new stuff shows up. Or they'll craft an impossible standard over the next few years that Gunn can't meet.

@SheepishOne - I can dig that, I’ve been enjoying myself watching non superhero movies more than cbm’s lately, with the exception of the Boys and Invincible, Batman, Joker, and Spider-Man, I don’t sit there expecting greatness anymore. Like things really are going back to where they were, cape, cowl, underoos and webs, plus the ultraviolent stuff. But man I just watched The Lord of the Flies for the first time. Read it in high school. I liked it so much that I remembered it very well so when I watched the movie it was like rereading it. The only kid on there to keep on acting was the butthole soldier on IM3. But yeah, without RDJ/IM/Tony and Cap and at least a good replacement for Chadwick, and with the lower quality in general, I’m more into other stuff now. Old and new. Catching up on what I missed so focused on the Cbm’s. Finally watched Don Jon, the JGL and Scarjo (and Tony Danza haha) movie about porn addiction. Hard Candy is next.

There will be a resurgence I’m sure. Y’all wake me up when that happens

I love how one of the tweets is accusing Gunna of hating Cavill because he wasn't under consideration to be frankenstein.

The Snyder cult is just absolutely detached from reality

I doubt Henry will come back as anyone other than Superman. He'll be pretty busy with the Warhammer series as well

@bobevanz - It's such a shame. I get the reasoning and need to start fresh, but I still would have loved to see what Cavill could do in a James Gunn written/directed project.

Hope Amazon treats him right for Warhammer at least.

@supermanrex - casting him as Aquaman was retarded. He gives off loner douche meat head Lobo than Aquaman leader
