Everything You Need To Know About Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Nickelodeon held an exclusive event to unveil their latest version of the pizza eating ninjas. In some ways it's a dramatic departure from previous incarnations.

At an off-site location, during San Diego Comic-con, Nickelodeon unveiled their re-imagined version of TMNT. The series won't hit the airwaves til possibly fall of 2012. This version will be CG animated, and our four heroes will finally be portrayed as true teens. About time someone actually embraced the teenager aspect of the turtles. Also the Vice President of Animation, Rich Magallanes, had an even clearer description of the turtles, he said,"the turtles will appear more like high school football players,"

The other dramatic change to the usual TMNT storyline is that April O'neil is getting younger. To be exact, this new April will be just a teenager as well, sixteen years old. Read the two articles below for more details about the rebooted turtles.

Excerpt from laweekly article

"Someone in their 30s with their own life going on isn't going to be able to delegate that much interest into these characters' lives and provide the attention and shelter that they need," says Nieli. "April can automatically assimilate as one of them and vice versa. If they're going to come out in the world for the first time, in the city, they're going to want someone whose of the same mindset."

Party Dude of halfshellheroes.com posted character descriptions based on the information at the event (Full Article)

Leonardo (Jason Biggs) -- He is the self-proclaimed leader of the group. However, at the beginning of the series he really doesn't know how to be that guy yet. He uses the katana!

Michelangelo (Greg Cipes) -- He is the "younger brother" of the four. He's a goofy fun-loving guy, but that's no cause for underestimating this class clown's fighting skills! He uses the nunchaku!

Donatello (Rob Paulsen) -- He's still the techno geek we know and love! Like a real Ninja, he can use his environment to invent great things! He also has a slight crush on April. He uses the bo!

Raphael (Sean Astin) -- He punches first and asks questions later! He's quick-witted and full of sarcasm! He competes with Leo for leadership of the brothers. He could do it, too, if he weren't so hotheaded. He uses the sai!

Splinter (Hoon Lee) -- Formerly Hamato Yoshi, he's often depicted as frail and old, this new Splinter is a bit younger so he can be a formidable opponent against the Shredder like he was in the first season of the original show!

April O'Neil -- She's got short red hair, a yellow shirt, black shorts, and sneakers! She's 16 (to be a peer to the Turtles) and learning to be a kunoichi (female ninja) from Splinter himself! Oh, and she's in no way "emo" like previous reports might've suggested. It's a big change, but it was better than bringing back Venus DeMilo for a female peer to the Turtles.

Shredder -- A no-nonsense ninja master and leader of the Foot Clan, he's a very competent foe who has devoted himself to the destruction of Hamato Yoshi and his Turtles. He's the scariest Shredder has ever been!

The Kraang -- With an android body more similar to the Utroms from the original comics, these brains with menacing ugly faces and squid tentacles out their sides conduct mutagen experiments on random victims they kidnap. They also, like the Utroms, have human disguises that go over their android bodies.

CG animation only looks good when Pixar or Dreamworks does it. Seriously, whenever other studios do it, it just looks like shit ESPECIALLY when it's for a series. -__-

Well, the series sounds like shit anyway so I guess it's fitting.

I like the most recent animated incarnation of the Turtles, why don't they just carry that on?

@teabag- Dude, I've been kind of down lately, and that just put the hugest grin on my face. Thanks, I needed that. :)

Maybe it's because of the subject being so close to my heart, but that is my favorite cheesy hip-hop song of all time. :)

YES FINALLY SPLINTER IS HAMATO YOSHI AGAIN!!! I hated the live action movies because splinter was just a rat that knew kung fu. makes no sense. (not that ninja turtles makes sense anyway, but still.)

The only TV show that has pulled off CG so far is Star Wars TCW. Even that only works because of it's heavily stylized, painterly textures. This TMNT stuff just looks bad.

this sounds like utter shit, with the atrocious animation and making april a teenager. Im not a usual complainer, Im normally happy with anything. But this is gonna be crap. As TheManWithoutFear said, why not continue on from the brilliant 2003 animated series that finished up recently. After the kiddie-oriented Flash Forward series, it was starting to get back to the quality of the first few seasons

plus its [frick]ing idiotic, the new animated series has gone back to the story of the 80s animated series! Dont get me wrong, loved watching the 80s animated series, but repeating it again is stupid. SPLINTER WAS NEVER A [frick]ING HUMAN IN THE COMICS

Meh, unless the live-action movie (if it ever comes out) is good, I think Turtles Forever was the last good TMNT

@hartley07
because in the original comics, he was a rat! you are obviously not a real tmnt fan if you want him to be a human again

@teabag
you are awesome :)

I'd give this chance but I'm afraid it's going to look more like Iron Man: Armored Adventures or whatever it's called. Can't wait for the movie though. I'm hoping it will be good.

It was interesting right up til we got to April. A female ninja? Really? Half of her appeal was her being the outsider... why couldn't she be a journalism student in college?

This's prolly gonna be a pass for me.

April is 16? Hmm. Interesting. I'm willing to give the show a chance. Kevin Eastman sounded like he thought it was going to be pretty decent.

@hartley07 Dude wtf? Splinter is not Hamato Yoshi!!!! that version of his origin didnt come about until the 1987 cartoon series! Originally splinter is a rat that learns NINJUTSU (NOT KUNG FU)from watching his Japanese master Hamato Yoshi train as his cage was in Yoshi's apartment/dojo!!!

know your history before you make such a dumb comment!!!

It's alwats nic to ee the Turtles coming back, but they never seem to last on TV that long. They start out with a very street feeling and then afterwards, things just get weird, and they get cancelled. MAybe this one will do better since this is like the 4rth incarnation i belive. Im personally more into the idea of a new movie.

@HailToTheKingBaby yes but at least iit makes sense in the our universe givenn the fictional variable that there exists a chemical which can mutant organic matter. However, when the turtles were turtles, that's all they were. When they mutated they needed to be taught just like children. They didn't bring anything with them or than perhaps their personalities. But even with the acceptance of the Mutagen, that doesn't explain how a common rat possesed brain function high enough to study his owner's martial arts before having ever come in contact with the mutagen. Also, splinter is a master martial artist, so that means that he had to have learned everything his owner knew which means that we are expected to believe that his owner trained in his room at all times. Highly unlikely
