The New Live Action TMNT Movie Will Follow In The Same Footsteps As Batman Begins

TMNT co-creator Peter Laird lets us in on some nice details regarding the upcoming live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

When asked in what direction the new film will be taking Peter Laird had the following to say:

“I can say that at this point there are a lot of positive feelings about a ‘Batman Begins’-style ‘reboot,’ which would, of necessity, include a retelling of the Turtles’ origin story,” Laird told MTV News of early plot discussions regarding the film. “Having said that, I would also be into an all-new story, if it was decided that that was a more desirable direction. Either way is fine with me, to be honest!”

Peter went on to share some potential plot points regarding the new film:
“Simply telling the story of what happened in the first issue of the ‘TMNT’ comic book would be a pretty short movie, so I suspect other things from the Turtles’ history in the comics might be brought into it,” continued Laird. “I would not be unhappy to somehow see the tale of Baxter Stockman and the robotic ‘mousers’ folded into this movie, as well as some elements possibly setting up the TCRI connection for a possible sixth (or seventh) movie. But I think I’m getting a little ahead of myself there.”

Peter goes on to say that making a TMNT movie has to include The Shredder and that April O’Neil and Casey Jones have also been in discussions to appear as well.

Finally Peter offered details on the technology that will be used to make the turtles have facial expressions:

“The basic idea, as I understand it, is to do an all live action shoot, with actors and stuntmen in full Turtle suits,” said Laird. “To add expressiveness to the Turtles’ faces which would be difficult if not impossible to get with animatronics and/or puppetry, there would be ‘face replacement,’ with CGI Turtle faces superimposed on the live action performers’ heads.”

“This technology has been proven to be incredibly effective if done correctly,” added Laird. “Look at the character of Davey Jones in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movies, with his mass of writhing tentacles… an incredible effect.”

Cyborgninja the cgi movie was less kid friendly than the damn live action ones! I didnt see any dance routines with Vanilla Ice in that one...

Anyway like thills22 said, the Turtles are for kids, just because we are all grown up now we cant expect them to make a Teenage Mutant Dark Knight Of The Turtle just for us! Sure you can push the boundries a bit with pg13 and make it a bit more gritty like the original comics, but overall its going to be very kid orientated..i just hope its good!

Awesome! Righteous! Wicked! Bossanova? This sounds like an exciting adventure, especially for anyone who grew up with the ninja turtles such as myself. I love that Peter Laird has still continued to be so invested in his creations. Even though there's a bit of a generation gap, it makes you wonder how the Batman or X-men movies would go if Bob Kane and Stan Lee were calling the shots.

I would love to see a new turtles movie. I only hope it will still be for the kids. I watched the turtles a lot growing up and it would be nice to see it stay kid friendly.

i hope they kinda do a short re-telling of the origins like they did in Superman Returns. just a short montage thing. who is the production company behind this? i am a little nervous about seeing live action turtles. i want to believe it but its not like it could happen...brb *tries to create turtle-people...fails miserably...* k i'm back. i have to go to my little brother's funeral so i'll talk to yall later... well maybe not. i could be going away for a long time...

Baxter Stockman?... That would be so awesome! You know... If it's the REAL Baxter Stockman and not "the Fly" ripoff.

As the movie progresses, they can make him more and more into something like Bale's character from American Psycho. That would be so baddass.
DarkAvengers
DarkAvengers - 4/30/2009, 2:06 PM
saymekian, I grew up with the turtles too, but come on!! Do we really need another live action film? Its ridiculous. I'm 27 years old, mate. I had the original Eastman/Laird books. I just feel like its a bit childish. Scratch that. I AM SICK OF REBOOTS!!!!!!! Anyone else? Here are the only films that deserve reboots:

1. Daredevil (Just watched it again- it could b better.)

2. Superman (Anything to get a Justice League franchise going.)

i GUESS THATS IT.

I was ok with the cgi movie regardless of the plot holes. I would like to see more of those. I also collected the original eastman and laird series. In fact they are some of my most valuable comics. I would like to see a reboot in that style but i know it wont happen with the tried and true "archie" style.

Like they wouldnt have THE SHREDDER in the next one. It was always the damn shredder! (except for cgi) If it wasnt shredder, it was kang. Which is also the shredder. Because there like, house mates.

Michealangelo- "Dudes, i cant like, find my tax forms OR my W2s from 1990!"

Leonardo- "You know who i think is behind this? The Shredder!"

Fun Fact- In case some of you didnt know. Fresh Prince's "Uncle Phil"(James Avery) was the voice of the shredder. Whats cool is sometimes, if you watch fresh prince again, you can hear the shredder in his voice from time to time.

TMNT'S REBOOTED??? What a surprise not!!!! Why can't they carry on dumb!!! Don't want another stupid ORIGIN story!!! The mixing CGI, well ofcourse they are gonna do that, just like PIRATES it works!!! But REBOOT, NOOOO!!! How about just do that CASEY JONES solo movie!!! ; )

DarkAvenger: once again I agree with you WHO CARES.
Unless they make it completely CGI its going to look LAME. How about putting that money and effort towards a real superheroe movie like THE FLASH,WONDER WOMAN ,GREEN LANTERN,I'd even settle for a Green Arrow movie over a bunch of lame turtles. Reboots:Superman plzzzz, Daredevil needs one but I dont care,Ghost Rider make it darker and rated R,Fantastic Four if it wasnt so corny maybe it wouldnt need one but...,and maybe Electra.

Are you serious! "WHO CARES" I grew up watching the cartoons and collecting action figures. Turtles are sweet and they must be doing something right casue they are still around.

OH YEA!
T-U-R-T-L-E POWER!

Baxtor would be sweet but i would like to see Krang or the rock soliders at some point.

Hero's in a half shell!

I liked the last one (animated) and I grew up with the games and catoons and the action figures were awsome too. I'd love to take my son to see this. He has a fascination with green violence (Hulk).
